★マルコによる福音(5:21-43)

5:21
　イエスがまた舟で向こう岸へ渡られると、大ぜいの群衆がみもとに集まってきた。イエスは海べにおられた。

5:22
　そこへ、会堂司のひとりであるヤイロという者がきて、イエスを見かけるとその足もとにひれ伏し、

5:23
　しきりに願って言った、「わたしの幼い娘が死にかかっています。どうぞ、その子がなおって助かりますように、おいでになって、手をおいてやってください」。

5:24
　そこで、イエスは彼と一緒に出かけられた。大ぜいの群衆もイエスに押し迫りながら、ついて行った。

5:25
　さてここに、十二年間も長血をわずらっている女がいた。

5:26
　多くの医者にかかって、さんざん苦しめられ、その持ち物をみな費してしまったが、なんのかいもないばかりか、かえってますます悪くなる一方であった。

5:27
　この女がイエスのことを聞いて、群衆の中にまぎれ込み、うしろから、み衣にさわった。

5:28
　それは、せめて、み衣にでもさわれば、なおしていただけるだろうと、思っていたからである。

5:29
　すると、血の元がすぐにかわき、女は病気がなおったことを、その身に感じた。

5:30
　イエスはすぐ、自分の内から力が出て行ったことに気づかれて、群衆の中で振り向き、「わたしの着物にさわったのはだれか」と言われた。

5:31
　そこで弟子たちが言った、「ごらんのとおり、群衆があなたに押し迫っていますのに、だれがさわったかと、おっしゃるのですか」。

5:32
　しかし、イエスはさわった者を見つけようとして、見まわしておられた。

5:33
　その女は自分の身に起ったことを知って、恐れおののきながら進み出て、みまえにひれ伏して、すべてありのままを申し上げた。

5:34
　イエスはその女に言われた、「娘よ、あなたの信仰があなたを救ったのです。安心して行きなさい。すっかりなおって、達者でいなさい」。

5:35
　イエスが、まだ話しておられるうちに、会堂司の家から人々がきて言った、「あなたの娘はなくなりました。このうえ、先生を煩わすには及びますまい」。

5:36
　イエスはその話している言葉を聞き流して、会堂司に言われた、「恐れることはない。ただ信じなさい」。

5:37
　そしてペテロ、ヤコブ、ヤコブの兄弟ヨハネのほかは、ついて来ることを、だれにもお許しにならなかった。

5:38
　彼らが会堂司の家に着くと、イエスは人々が大声で泣いたり、叫んだりして、騒いでいるのをごらんになり、

5:39
　内にはいって、彼らに言われた、「なぜ泣き騒いでいるのか。子供は死んだのではない。眠っているだけである」。

5:40
　人々はイエスをあざ笑った。しかし、イエスはみんなの者を外に出し、子供の父母と供の者たちだけを連れて、子供のいる所にはいって行かれた。

5:41
　そして子供の手を取って、「タリタ、クミ」と言われた。それは、「少女よ、さあ、起きなさい」という意味である。

5:42
　すると、少女はすぐに起き上がって、歩き出した。十二歳にもなっていたからである。彼らはたちまち非常な驚きに打たれた。

5:43
　イエスは、だれにもこの事を知らすなと、きびしく彼らに命じ、また、少女に食物を与えるようにと言われた。

　さてアブサロムはダビデの家来たちに行き会った。その時アブサロムは騾馬に乗っていたが、騾馬は大きいかしの木の、茂った枝の下を通ったので、アブサロムの頭がそのかしの木にかかって、彼は天地の間につりさがった。騾馬は彼を捨てて過ぎて行った。

　ひとりの人がそれを見てヨアブに告げて言った、「わたしはアブサロムが、かしの木にかかっているのを見ました」。

　そこで、ヨアブは、手に三筋の投げやりを取り、あのかしの木にかかって、なお生きているアブサロムの心臓にこれを突き通した。

　時にダビデは二つの門の間にすわっていた。そして見張りの者が城壁の門の屋根にのぼり、目をあげて見ていると、ただひとりで走ってくる者があった。

　見張りの者が呼ばわって王に告げたので、王は言った、「もしひとりならば、その口におとずれがあるであろう」。

　王は言った、「わきへ行って、そこに立っていなさい」。彼はわきへ行って立った。

　その時クシびとがきた。そしてそのクシびとは言った、「わが君、王が良いおとずれをお受けくださるよう。主はきょう、すべてあなたに敵して立った者どもの手から、あなたを救い出されたのです」。

18:32
　王はクシびとに言った、「若者アブサロムは平安ですか」。クシびとは答えた、「王、わが君の敵、およびすべてあなたに敵して立ち、害をしようとする者は、あの若者のようになりますように」。

18:33
　王はひじょうに悲しみ、門の上のへやに上って泣いた。彼は行きながらこのように言った、「わが子アブサロムよ。わが子、わが子アブサロムよ。ああ、わたしが代って死ねばよかったのに。アブサロム、わが子よ、わが子よ」。

19:1
　時にヨアブに告げる者があって、「見よ、王はアブサロムのために泣き悲しんでいる」と言った。

19:2
　こうしてその日の勝利はすべての民の悲しみとなった。それはその日、民が、「王はその子のために悲しんでいる」と人の言うのを聞いたからである。

19:3
　そして民はその日、戦いに逃げて恥じている民がひそかに、はいるように、ひそかに町にはいった。

　時に彼は夢をみた。一つのはしごが地の上に立っていて、その頂は天に達し、神の使たちがそれを上り下りしているのを見た。

　そして主は彼のそばに立って言われた、「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神、イサクの神、主である。あなたが伏している地を、あなたと子孫とに与えよう。

　ヤコブはラケルに、自分がラケルの父のおいであり、リベカの子であることを告げたので、彼女は走って行って父に話した。

　ラバンは妹の子ヤコブがきたという知らせを聞くとすぐ、走って行ってヤコブを迎え、これを抱いて口づけし、家に連れてきた。そこでヤコブはすべての事をラバンに話した。

+ First Reading: 2 Samuel 18:9-10,14b,24-25a,30-19:3

9 Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.

10 A certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, “Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.”

14b He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

24 Now David was sitting between the two gates: and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.

25a The watchman cried, and told the king.

30 The king said, “Turn aside, and stand here.” He turned aside, and stood still.

31 Behold, the Cushite came. The Cushite said, “News for my lord the king; for Yahweh has avenged you this day of all those who rose up against you.”

32 The king said to the Cushite, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?”
The Cushite answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is.”

33 The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate, and wept. As he went, he said, “My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died for you, Absalom, my son, my son!”

1 It was told Joab, “Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.”

2 The victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people; for the people heard it said that day, “The king grieves for his son.”

3 The people sneaked into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

21 When Jesus had crossed back over in the boat to the other side, a great multitude was gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

22 Behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing him, he fell at his feet,

23 and begged him much, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live.”
24 He went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and they pressed upon him on all sides.

25 A certain woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years,

26 and had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse,

27 having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd, and touched his clothes.

28 For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.”

29 Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

30 Immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd, and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31 His disciples said to him, “You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
32 He looked around to see her who had done this thing.

33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”

35 While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler’s house saying, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?”

36 But Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.”

37 He allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

38 He came to the synagogue ruler’s house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing.

39 When he had entered in, he said to them, “Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep.”

40 They ridiculed him. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying.

41 Taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha cumi!” which means, being interpreted, “Girl, I tell you, get up!”

42 Immediately the girl rose up and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement.

43 He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.

10 Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

11 He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

12 He dreamed. Behold, a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

13 Behold, Yahweh stood above it, and said, “I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed.

14 Your seed will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your seed will all the families of the earth be blessed.

15 Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

16 Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

17 He was afraid, and said, “How dreadful is this place! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

18 Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.

19 He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.

20 Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,

21 so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and Yahweh will be my God,

22 then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give the tenth to you.”

1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.

2 He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, behold, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.

3 There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again on the well’s mouth in its place.

4 Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?”
They said, “We are from Haran.”

5 He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?”
They said, “We know him.”

6 He said to them, “Is it well with him?”
They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”

7 He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”

8 They said, “We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we water the sheep.”

9 While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.

10 It happened, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

11 Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

12 Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father.

13 It happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister’s son, that he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.

14a Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.”

　こうして彼らは海の向こう岸、ゲラサ人の地に着いた。

5:2
　それから、イエスが舟からあがられるとすぐに、けがれた霊につかれた人が墓場から出てきて、イエスに出会った。

5:3
　この人は墓場をすみかとしており、もはやだれも、鎖でさえも彼をつなぎとめて置けなかった。

5:4
　彼はたびたび足かせや鎖でつながれたが、鎖を引きちぎり、足かせを砕くので、だれも彼を押えつけることができなかったからである。

5:5
　そして、夜昼たえまなく墓場や山で叫びつづけて、石で自分のからだを傷つけていた。

5:6
　ところが、この人がイエスを遠くから見て、走り寄って拝し、

5:7
　大声で叫んで言った、「いと高き神の子イエスよ、あなたはわたしとなんの係わりがあるのです。神に誓ってお願いします。どうぞ、わたしを苦しめないでください」。

5:8
　それは、イエスが、「けがれた霊よ、この人から出て行け」と言われたからである。

5:9
　また彼に、「なんという名前か」と尋ねられると、「レギオンと言います。大ぜいなのですから」と答えた。

5:10
　そして、自分たちをこの土地から追い出さないようにと、しきりに願いつづけた。

5:11
　さて、そこの山の中腹に、豚の大群が飼ってあった。

5:12
　霊はイエスに願って言った、「わたしどもを、豚にはいらせてください。その中へ送ってください」。

5:13
　イエスがお許しになったので、けがれた霊どもは出て行って、豚の中へはいり込んだ。すると、その群れは二千匹ばかりであったが、がけから海へなだれを打って駆け下り、海の中でおぼれ死んでしまった。

5:14
　豚を飼う者たちが逃げ出して、町や村にふれまわったので、人々は何事が起ったのかと見にきた。

5:15
　そして、イエスのところにきて、悪霊につかれた人が着物を着て、正気になってすわっており、それがレギオンを宿していた者であるのを見て、恐れた。

5:16
　また、それを見た人たちは、悪霊につかれた人の身に起った事と豚のこととを、彼らに話して聞かせた。

5:17
　そこで、人々はイエスに、この地方から出て行っていただきたいと、頼みはじめた。

5:18
　イエスが舟に乗ろうとされると、悪霊につかれていた人がお供をしたいと願い出た。

5:19
　しかし、イエスはお許しにならないで、彼に言われた、「あなたの家族のもとに帰って、主がどんなに大きなことをしてくださったか、またどんなにあわれんでくださったか、それを知らせなさい」。

5:20
　そこで、彼は立ち去り、そして自分にイエスがしてくださったことを、ことごとくデカポリスの地方に言いひろめ出したので、人々はみな驚き怪しんだ。

　ひとりの使者がダビデのところにきて、「イスラエルの人々の心はアブサロムに従いました」と言った。

　ダビデは、自分と一緒にエルサレムにいるすべての家来に言った、「立て、われわれは逃げよう。そうしなければアブサロムの前からのがれることはできなくなるであろう。急いで行くがよい。さもないと、彼らが急ぎ追いついて、われわれに害をこうむらせ、つるぎをもって町を撃つであろう」。

　ダビデはオリブ山の坂道を登ったが、登る時に泣き、その頭をおおい、はだしで行った。彼と共にいる民もみな頭をおおって登り、泣きながら登った。

　ダビデ王がバホリムにきた時、サウルの家の一族の者がひとりそこから出てきた。その名をシメイといい、ゲラの子である。彼は出てきながら絶えずのろった。

　そして彼はダビデとダビデ王のもろもろの家来に向かって石を投げた。その時、民と勇士たちはみな王の左右にいた。

　シメイはのろう時にこう言った、「血を流す人よ、よこしまな人よ、立ち去れ、立ち去れ。

　あなたが代って王となったサウルの家の血をすべて主があなたに報いられたのだ。主は王国をあなたの子アブサロムの手に渡された。見よ、あなたは血を流す人だから、災に会うのだ」。

16:9
　時にゼルヤの子アビシャイは王に言った、「この死んだ犬がどうしてわが主、王をのろってよかろうか。わたしに、行って彼の首を取らせてください」。

16:10
　しかし王は言った、「ゼルヤの子たちよ、あなたがたと、なんのかかわりがあるのか。彼がのろうのは、主が彼に、『ダビデをのろえ』と言われたからであるならば、だれが、『あなたはどうしてこういうことをするのか』と言ってよいであろうか」。

16:11
　ダビデはまたアビシャイと自分のすべての家来とに言った、「わたしの身から出たわが子がわたしの命を求めている。今、このベニヤミンびととしてはなおさらだ。彼を許してのろわせておきなさい。主が彼に命じられたのだ。

16:12
　主はわたしの悩みを顧みてくださるかもしれない。また主はきょう彼ののろいにかえて、わたしに善を報いてくださるかも知れない」。

　こうしてダビデとその従者たちとは道を行った

27:30
　イサクがヤコブを祝福し終って、ヤコブが父イサクの前から出て行くとすぐ、兄エサウが狩から帰ってきた。

27:31
　彼もまたおいしい食べ物を作って、父の所に持ってきて、言った、「父よ、起きてあなたの子のしかの肉を食べ、あなたみずから、わたしを祝福してください」。

27:32
　父イサクは彼に言った、「あなたは、だれか」。彼は言った、「わたしはあなたの子、長子エサウです」。

27:33
　イサクは激しくふるえて言った、「それでは、あのしかの肉を取って、わたしに持ってきた者はだれか。わたしはあなたが来る前に、みんな食べて彼を祝福した。ゆえに彼が祝福を得るであろう」。

27:34
　エサウは父の言葉を聞いた時、大声をあげ、激しく叫んで、父に言った、「父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。

27:35
　イサクは言った、「あなたの弟が偽ってやってきて、あなたの祝福を奪ってしまった」。

27:36
　エサウは言った、「よくもヤコブと名づけたものだ。彼は二度までもわたしをおしのけた。さきには、わたしの長子の特権を奪い、こんどはわたしの祝福を奪った」。また言った、「あなたはわたしのために祝福を残しておかれませんでしたか」。

　イサクは答えてエサウに言った、「わたしは彼をあなたの主人とし、兄弟たちを皆しもべとして彼に与え、また穀物とぶどう酒を彼に授けた。わが子よ、今となっては、あなたのために何ができようか」。

27:38
　エサウは父に言った、「父よ、あなたの祝福はただ一つだけですか。父よ、わたしを、わたしをも祝福してください」。エサウは声をあげて泣いた。

27:39
　父イサクは答えて彼に言った、「あなたのすみかは地の肥えた所から離れ、また上なる天の露から離れるであろう。

27:40
　あなたはつるぎをもって世を渡り、あなたの弟に仕えるであろう。しかし、あなたが勇み立つ時、首から、そのくびきを振り落すであろう」。

27:41
　こうしてエサウは父がヤコブに与えた祝福のゆえにヤコブを憎んだ。エサウは心の内で言った、「父の喪の日も遠くはないであろう。その時、弟ヤコブを殺そう」。

27:42
　しかしリベカは長子エサウのこの言葉を人づてに聞いたので、人をやり、弟ヤコブを呼んで言った、「兄エサウはあなたを殺そうと考えて、みずから慰めています。

27:43
　子よ、今わたしの言葉に従って、すぐハランにいるわたしの兄ラバンのもとにのがれ、

27:44
　あなたの兄の怒りが解けるまで、しばらく彼の所にいなさい。

27:45
　兄の憤りが解けて、あなたのした事を兄が忘れるようになったならば、わたしは人をやって、あなたをそこから迎えましょう。どうして、わたしは一日のうちにあなたがたふたりを失ってよいでしょうか」。

13 A messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.”

14 David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee; for else none of us shall escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”

30 David went up by the ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered, and went barefoot: and all the people who were with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

5 When king David came to Bahurim, behold, a man of the family of the house of Saul came out, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera. He came out, and cursed still as he came.

6 He cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David, and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

7 Shimei said when he cursed, “Be gone, be gone, you man of blood, and base fellow!

8 Yahweh has returned on you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned! Yahweh has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son! Behold, you are caught by your own mischief, because you are a man of blood!”

9 Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Please let me go over and take off his head.”

10 The king said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? Because he curses, and because Yahweh has said to him, ‘Curse David;’ who then shall say, ‘Why have you done so?’”

11 David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, “Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeks my life. How much more this Benjamite, now? Leave him alone, and let him curse; for Yahweh has invited him.

12 It may be that Yahweh will look on the wrong done to me, and that Yahweh will repay me good for the cursing of me today.”

13a So David and his men went by the way.

3 He lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains,

4 because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nobody had the strength to tame him.

5 Always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him,

7 and crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, don’t torment me.”

8 For he said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

9 He asked him, “What is your name?”
He said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.”

10 He begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

11 Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding.

12 All the demons begged him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.”

13 At once Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.

14 Those who fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the country.
The people came to see what it was that had happened.

15 They came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid.

16 Those who saw it declared to them how it happened to him who was possessed by demons, and about the pigs.

17 They began to beg him to depart from their region.
18 As he was entering into the boat, he who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him.

19 He didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.”

20 He went his way, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how Jesus had done great things for him, and everyone marveled.

30 It happened, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob had just gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, “Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that your soul may bless me.”

32 Isaac his father said to him, “Who are you?”
He said, “I am your son, your firstborn, Esau.”

33 Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.”

34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his father, “Bless me, even me also, my father.”

35 He said, “Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing.”

36 He said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing.” He said, “Haven’t you reserved a blessing for me?”

37 Isaac answered Esau, “Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?”

38 Esau said to his father, “Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father.” Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

39 Isaac his father answered him,
“Behold, of the fatness of the earth will be your dwelling,
and of the dew of the sky from above.

40 By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother.
It will happen, when you will break loose,
that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck.”

41 Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

42 The words of Esau, her elder son, were told to Rebekah. She sent and called Jacob, her younger son, and said to him, “Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you by planning to kill you.

43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.

44 Stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns away;

45 until your brother’s anger turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?”

27:1
　イサクは年老い、目がかすんで見えなくなった時、長子エサウを呼んで言った、「子よ」。彼は答えて言った、「ここにおります」。

27:2
　イサクは言った。「わたしは年老いて、いつ死ぬかも知れない。

27:3
　それであなたの武器、弓矢をもって野に出かけ、わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、

27:4
　わたしの好きなおいしい食べ物を作り、持ってきて食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前にあなたを祝福しよう」。

27:5
　イサクがその子エサウに語るのをリベカは聞いていた。やがてエサウが、しかの肉を獲ようと野に出かけたとき、

27:6
　リベカはその子ヤコブに言った、「わたしは聞いていましたが、父は兄エサウに、

27:7
　『わたしのために、しかの肉をとってきて、おいしい食べ物を作り、わたしに食べさせよ。わたしは死ぬ前に、主の前であなたを祝福しよう』と言いました。

　それで、子よ、わたしの言葉にしたがい、わたしの言うとおりにしなさい。

15 Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him.

16 This is according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, “Let me not hear again the voice of Yahweh my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die.”

17 Yahweh said to me, “They have well said that which they have spoken.

18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

19 It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

20 But the prophet, who shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.”

34 There is also a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world―how she may please her husband.

35 This I say for your own profit; not that I may ensnare you, but for that which is appropriate, and that you may attend to the Lord without distraction.

24 saying, “Ha! What do we have to do with you, Jesus, you Nazarene? Have you come to destroy us? I know you who you are: the Holy One of God!”

25 Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”

26 The unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.

27 They were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him!”

28 The report of him went out immediately everywhere into all the region of Galilee and its surrounding area.

1 It happened, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said to him, “My son?”
He said to him, “Here I am.”

2 He said, “See now, I am old. I don’t know the day of my death.

3 Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison.

4 Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die.”

5 Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

6 Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying,

7 ‘Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before Yahweh before my death.’

8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.

9 Go now to the flock, and get me from there two good young goats. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves.

10 You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death.”

11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

12 What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing.”

13 His mother said to him, “Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me.”

14 He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved.

15 Rebekah took the good clothes of Esau, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob, her younger son.

16 She put the skins of the young goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck.

17 She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 He came to his father, and said, “My father?”
He said, “Here I am. Who are you, my son?”

19 Jacob said to his father, “I am Esau your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.”

20 Isaac said to his son, “How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?”
He said, “Because Yahweh your God gave me success.”

21 Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”

22 Jacob went near to Isaac his father. He felt him, and said, “The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.”

23 He didn’t recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esau’s hands. So he blessed him.

24 He said, “Are you really my son Esau?”
He said, “I am.”

　さてその日、夕方になると、イエスは弟子たちに、「向こう岸へ渡ろう」と言われた。

　そこで、彼らは群衆をあとに残し、イエスが舟に乗っておられるまま、乗り出した。ほかの舟も一緒に行った。

4:37
　すると、激しい突風が起り、波が舟の中に打ち込んできて、舟に満ちそうになった。

4:38
　ところがイエス自身は、舳の方でまくらをして、眠っておられた。そこで、弟子たちはイエスをおこして、「先生、わたしどもがおぼれ死んでも、おかまいにならないのですか」と言った。

4:39
　イエスは起きあがって風をしかり、海にむかって、「静まれ、黙れ」と言われると、風はやんで、大なぎになった。

4:40
　イエスは彼らに言われた、「なぜ、そんなにこわがるのか。どうして信仰がないのか」。

　彼らは恐れおののいて、互に言った、「いったい、この方はだれだろう。風も海も従わせるとは」。

　貧しい人は自分が買った一頭の小さい雌の小羊のほかは何も持っていなかった。彼がそれを育てたので、その小羊は彼および彼の子供たちと共に成長し、彼の食物を食べ、彼のわんから飲み、彼のふところで寝て、彼にとっては娘のようであった。

+ First Reading: 2 Samuel 12:1-7a, 10-17

1 Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

2 The rich man had very many flocks and herds,

3 but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him like a daughter.

4 A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man who had come to him.”

5 David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!

6 He shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”

7a Nathan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

10 Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

11 “This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

12 For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”

13 David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.”
Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.

14 However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”

15 Nathan departed to his house.
Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it was very sick.

16 David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the earth.

17 The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

9 Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre,

10 the field which Abraham purchased of the children of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife.

11 It happened after the death of Abraham that God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi.

19 This is the history of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham became the father of Isaac.

20 Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.

21 Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22 The children struggled together within her. She said, “If it be so, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.

23 Yahweh said to her,
“Two nations are in your womb.
Two peoples will be separated from your body.
The one people will be stronger than the other people.
The elder will serve the younger.”

24 When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

25 The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau.

26 After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

27 The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.

28 Now Isaac loved Esau, because he ate his venison. Rebekah loved Jacob.

29 Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.

30 Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

31 Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.”

32 Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”

33 Jacob said, “Swear to me first.”
He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.

34 Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.

　実がいると、すぐにかまを入れる。刈入れ時がきたからである」。

　また言われた、「神の国を何に比べようか。また、どんな譬で言いあらわそうか。

　それは一粒のからし種のようなものである。地にまかれる時には、地上のどんな種よりも小さいが、

2 on the third day, behold,* a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn, and earth on his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and showed respect.

He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”

4a David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.”
He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”

5 David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”

6 The young man who told him said, “As I happened by chance on Mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning on his spear; and behold, the chariots and the horsemen followed hard after him.

7 When he looked behind him, he saw me, and called to me. I answered, ‘Here I am.’

8 He said to me, ‘Who are you?’ I answered him, ‘I am an Amalekite.’

9 He said to me, ‘Please stand beside me, and kill me; for anguish has taken hold of me, because my life is yet whole in me.’

10a So I stood beside him, and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he had fallen. I took the crown that was on his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.”

13 David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?”
He answered, “I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite.”

14 David said to him, “How were you not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy Yahweh’s anointed?”

15 David called one of the young men, and said, “Go near, and fall on him.” He struck him, so that he died.

16 David said to him, “Your blood be on your head; for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain Yahweh’s anointed.’”

17 David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son

31 It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,

32 yet when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

33 With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

34 Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

37 My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

38 but you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’

39 I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’

40 He said to me, ‘Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son of my relatives, and of my father’s house.

41 Then will you be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.’

49 Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.”

50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered, “The thing proceeds from Yahweh. We can’t speak to you bad or good.

51 Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”

52 When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to Yahweh.

53 The servant brought out jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and her mother.

54 They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.”

55 Her brother and her mother said, “Let the young lady stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go.”

56 He said to them, “Don’t hinder me, since Yahweh has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”

57 They said, “We will call the young lady, and ask her.”

58 They called Rebekah, and said to her, “Will you go with this man?”
She said, “I will go.”

59 They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham’s servant, and his men.

60 They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, “Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your seed possess the gate of those who hate them.”

61 Rebekah arose with her ladies. They rode on the camels, and followed the man. The servant took Rebekah, and went his way.

62 Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he lived in the land of the South.

63 Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the evening. He lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there were camels coming.

64 Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from the camel.

65 She said to the servant, “Who is the man who is walking in the field to meet us?”
The servant said, “It is my master.”
She took her veil, and covered herself.

66 The servant told Isaac all the things that he had done.

67 Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

　そのとき、彼らに言われた、「収穫は多いが、働き人が少ない。だから、収穫の主に願って、その収穫のために働き人を送り出すようにしてもらいなさい。

　さあ、行きなさい。わたしがあなたがたをつかわすのは、小羊をおおかみの中に送るようなものである。

　財布も袋もくつも持って行くな。だれにも道であいさつするな。

　どこかの家にはいったら、まず『平安がこの家にあるように』と言いなさい。

　もし平安の子がそこにおれば、あなたがたの祈る平安はその人の上にとどまるであろう。もしそうでなかったら、それはあなたがたの上に帰って来るであろう。

9 The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

10 The servant took ten camels, of his master’s camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master’s with him. He arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.

11 He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.

12 He said, “Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

13 Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.

14 Let it happen, that the young lady to whom I will say, ‘Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,’ and she will say, ‘Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,’―let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”

15 Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.

16 The young lady was very beautiful to look at, a virgin, neither had any man known her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up.

17 The servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.”

18 She said, “Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him drink.

19 When she had done giving him drink, she said, “I will also draw for your camels, until they have done drinking.”

20 She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.

21 The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.

22 As the camels had done drinking, the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,

23 and said, “Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge in?”

24 She said to him, “I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.”

25 She said moreover to him, “We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.”

26 The man bowed his head, and worshiped Yahweh.

27 He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me on the way to the house of my master’s relatives.”

5 As also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.

6 As I made my journey, and came close to Damascus, about noon, suddenly a great light shone around me from the sky.

　そして、自分をとりかこんで、すわっている人々を見まわして、言われた、「ごらんなさい、ここにわたしの母、わたしの兄弟がいる。

David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom into the city of David with joy.

13 It was so, that, when those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.

14 David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

17 They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

18 When David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.

4 Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

5 Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

6 Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”

7 She said, “Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

8 The child grew, and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

9 Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this handmaid and her son! For the son of this handmaid will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”

11 The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight on account of his son.

12 God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your seed be called.

13 I will also make a nation of the son of the handmaid, because he is your seed.”

14 Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

15 The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

16 She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, “Don’t let me see the death of the child.” She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

17 God heard the voice of the boy.
The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Don’t be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

18 Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”

19 God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink.

20 God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer.

21 He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

　そこでイエスは彼らを呼び寄せ、譬をもって言われた、「どうして、サタンがサタンを追い出すことができようか。

　もし国が内部で分れ争うなら、その国は立ち行かない。

　また、もし家が内わで分れ争うなら、その家は立ち行かないであろう。

3:26
　もしサタンが内部で対立し分争するなら、彼は立ち行けず、滅んでしまう。

　だれでも、まず強い人を縛りあげなければ、その人の家に押し入って家財を奪い取ることはできない。縛ってからはじめて、その家を略奪することができる。

　よく言い聞かせておくが、人の子らには、その犯すすべての罪も神をけがす言葉も、ゆるされる。

　しかし、聖霊をけがす者は、いつまでもゆるされず、永遠の罪に定められる」。

　しかしロトがしいて勧めたので、彼らはついに彼の所に寄り、家にはいった。ロトは彼らのためにふるまいを設け、種入れぬパンを焼いて食べさせた。

　ところが彼らの寝ないうちに、ソドムの町の人々は、若い者も老人も、民がみな四方からきて、その家を囲み、

　ロトに叫んで言った、「今夜おまえの所にきた人々はどこにいるか。それをここに出しなさい。われわれは彼らを知るであろう」。

　ロトは入口におる彼らの所に出て行き、うしろの戸を閉じて、 19:7言った、「兄弟たちよ、どうか悪い事はしないでください。

19:8
　わたしにまだ男を知らない娘がふたりあります。わたしはこれをあなたがたに、さし出しますから、好きなようにしてください。ただ、わたしの屋根の下にはいったこの人たちには、何もしないでください」。

19:9
　彼らは言った、「退け」。また言った、「この男は渡ってきたよそ者であるのに、いつも、さばきびとになろうとする。それで、われわれは彼らに加えるよりも、おまえに多くの害を加えよう」。彼らはロトの身に激しく迫り、進み寄って戸を破ろうとした。

　その時、かのふたりは手を伸べてロトを家の内に引き入れ、戸を閉じた。

　そして家の入口におる人々を、老若の別なく打って目をくらましたので、彼らは入口を捜すのに疲れた。

　ふたりはロトに言った、「ほかにあなたの身内の者がここにおりますか。あなたのむこ、むすこ、娘およびこの町におるあなたの身内の者を、皆ここから連れ出しなさい。

　われわれがこの所を滅ぼそうとしているからです。人々の叫びが主の前に大きくなり、主はこの所を滅ぼすために、われわれをつかわされたのです」。

19:14
　そこでロトは出て行って、その娘たちをめとるむこたちに告げて言った、「立ってこの所から出なさい。主がこの町を滅ぼされます」。しかしそれはむこたちには戯むれごとに思えた。

19:15
　夜が明けて、み使たちはロトを促して言った　　「立って、ここにいるあなたの妻とふたりの娘とを連れ出しなさい。そうしなければ、あなたもこの町の不義のために滅ぼされるでしょう」。

　彼はためらっていたが、主は彼にあわれみを施されたので、かのふたりは彼の手と、その妻の手と、ふたりの娘の手を取って連れ出し、町の外に置いた。

　彼らを外に連れ出した時そのひとりは言った、「のがれて、自分の命を救いなさい。うしろをふりかえって見てはならない。低地にはどこにも立ち止まってはならない。山にのがれなさい。そうしなければ、あなたは滅びます」。

2 In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was you who led out and brought in Israel. Yahweh said to you, ‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’”

3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Yahweh; and they anointed David king over Israel.

4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

1 The two angels came to Sodom at evening. Lot sat in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them. He bowed himself with his face to the earth,

2 and he said, “See now, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, stay all night, wash your feet, and you can rise up early, and go on your way.”
They said, “No, but we will stay in the street all night.”

3 He urged them greatly, and they came in with him, and entered into his house. He made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, both young and old, all the people from every quarter.

5 They called to Lot, and said to him, “Where are the men who came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may have sex with them.”

6 Lot went out to them to the door, and shut the door after him.

7 He said, “Please, my brothers, don’t act so wickedly.

8 See now, I have two virgin daughters. Please let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them what seems good to you. Only don’t do anything to these men, because they have come under the shadow of my roof.”

9 They said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one fellow came in to live as a foreigner, and he appoints himself a judge. Now will we deal worse with you, than with them!” They pressed hard on the man Lot, and drew near to break the door.

10 But the men reached out their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door.

11 They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

12 The men said to Lot, “Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place:

13 for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before Yahweh that Yahweh has sent us to destroy it.”

14 Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, “Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city.”
But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

15 When the morning came, then the angels hurried Lot, saying, “Get up! Take your wife, and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city.”

16 But he lingered; and the men grabbed his hand, his wife’s hand, and his two daughters’ hands, Yahweh being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city.

17 It came to pass, when they had taken them out, that he said, “Escape for your life! Don’t look behind you, and don’t stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be consumed!”

　イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしについてきなさい。あなたがたを、人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう」。

　すると、彼らはすぐに網を捨てて、イエスに従った。

　また少し進んで行かれると、ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネとが、舟の中で網を繕っているのをごらんになった。

　主はマムレのテレビンの木のかたわらでアブラハムに現れられた。それは昼の暑いころで、彼は天幕の入口にすわっていたが、

　目を上げて見ると、三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた。彼はこれを見て、天幕の入口から走って行って彼らを迎え、地に身をかがめて、

18:3
　言った、「わが主よ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ているなら、どうぞしもべを通り過ごさないでください。

18:4
　水をすこし取ってこさせますから、あなたがたは足を洗って、この木の下でお休みください。

18:5
　わたしは一口のパンを取ってきます。元気をつけて、それからお出かけください。せっかくしもべの所においでになったのですから」。彼らは言った、「お言葉どおりにしてください」。

18:6
　そこでアブラハムは急いで天幕に入り、サラの所に行って言った、「急いで細かい麦粉三セヤをとり、こねてパンを造りなさい」。

　アブラハムは牛の群れに走って行き、柔らかな良い子牛を取って若者に渡したので、急いで調理した。

　主は言われた、「もしソドムで町の中に五十人の正しい者があったら、その人々のためにその所をすべてゆるそう」。

　アブラハムは答えて言った、「わたしはちり灰に過ぎませんが、あえてわが主に申します。

1 Yahweh’s word came to Jonah the second time, saying,

2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”

3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to Yahweh’s word. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.

4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

5 The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

10 God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

3 and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.

4 Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.

5 I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.”
They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”

6 Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”

7 Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.

8 He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

9 They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?”
He said, “See, in the tent.”

10 He said, “I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.”
Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.

12 Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”

13 Yahweh said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?’

14 Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son.”

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid.
He said, “No, but you did laugh.”

16 The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.

17 Yahweh said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,

18 since Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?

19 For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

20 Yahweh said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,

21 I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”

22 The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.

23 Abraham drew near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?

24 What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?

25 Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”

26 Yahweh said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake.”

27 Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.

28 What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?”
He said, “I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there.”

29 He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?”
He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”

30 He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?”
He said, “I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”

31 He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?”
He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”

32 He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?”
He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”

1 After the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag;

2 on the third day, behold,* a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes torn, and earth on his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and showed respect.

3 David said to him, “Where do you come from?”
He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”

4 David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.”
He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”

11 Then David took hold on his clothes, and tore them; and likewise all the men who were with him.

12 They mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Yahweh,† and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

19 “Your glory, Israel, is slain on your high places!
How the mighty have fallen!

23 Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives.

2 I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”

3 Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,

4 “As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

5 Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

7 I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you.

8 I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God.”

9 God said to Abraham, “As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations.

10 This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised.

11 You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you.

12 He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed.

13 He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant.”

15 God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

16 I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

17 Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”

18 Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

19 God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac.* I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

21 But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

22 When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

23 Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him.

24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

26 In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised.

27 All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him.

*17:19: Isaac means “he laughs”.

　昔から、ことわざに言っているように、『悪は悪人から出る』。しかし、わたしはあなたに手をくだすことをしないでしょう。

　サライはアブラムに言った、「主はわたしに子をお授けになりません。どうぞ、わたしのつかえめの所におはいりください。彼女によってわたしは子をもつことになるでしょう」。アブラムはサライの言葉を聞きいれた。

　アブラムの妻サライはそのつかえめエジプトの女ハガルをとって、夫アブラムに妻として与えた。これはアブラムがカナンの地に十年住んだ後であった。

16:4
　彼はハガルの所にはいり、ハガルは子をはらんだ。彼女は自分のはらんだのを見て、女主人を見下げるようになった。

+ First Reading: 1 Samuel 24:3-21

3 He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were abiding in the innermost parts of the cave.

4 The men of David said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.

5 Afterward, David’s heart struck him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.

6 He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

7 So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

8 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!”
When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.

9 David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks your hurt?’

10 Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you; but I spared you; and I said, I will not stretch out my hand against my lord; for he is Yahweh’s anointed.

11 Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.

12 May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.

13 As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand shall not be on you.

14 Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?

15 May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”

16 It came to pass, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is this your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

+ First Reading: 1 Samuel 18:6-9,19:1-7

18:6 As they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7 The women sang one to another as they played, and said,
“Saul has slain his thousands,
David his ten thousands.”

8 Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him; and he said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?”

9 Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

19:1 Saul spoke to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted much in David.

2 Jonathan told David, saying, “Saul my father seeks to kill you. Now therefore, please take care of yourself in the morning, and live in a secret place, and hide yourself.

3 I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will talk with my father about you; and if I see anything, I will tell you.”

4 Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, “Don’t let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you;

5 for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and Yahweh worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?”

6 Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan: and Saul swore, “As Yahweh lives, he shall not be put to death.”

7 Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as before.

5 Yahweh brought him outside, and said, “Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram, “So will your seed be.”

7 He said to him, “I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.”

8 He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”

9 He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”

10 He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn’t divide the birds.

11 The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.

12 When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.

13 He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

14 I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,

15 but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.

16 In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.”

17 It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

18 In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

19 the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,

20 the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,

21 the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”

　すると、イエスは片手のなえたその人に、「立って、中へ出てきなさい」と言い、

　人々にむかって、「安息日に善を行うのと悪を行うのと、命を救うのと殺すのと、どちらがよいか」と言われた。彼らは黙っていた。

　イエスは怒りを含んで彼らを見まわし、その心のかたくななのを嘆いて、その人に「手を伸ばしなさい」と言われた。そこで手を伸ばすと、その手は元どおりになった。

32 David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

33 Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”

37 David said, “Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.”
Saul said to David, “Go; and Yahweh shall be with you.”

40 He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet. His sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.

41 The Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.

42 When the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair face.

43 The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.

46 Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you, and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,

47 and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear: for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”

48 When the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

49 David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.

50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

51 Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

5 When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored as healthy as the other.

6 The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

1 In the days of Amraphel, king of Shinar, Arioch, king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim,

2 they made war with Bera, king of Sodom, and with Birsha, king of Gomorrah, Shinab, king of Admah, and Shemeber, king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar).

3 All these joined together in the valley of Siddim (the same is the Salt Sea).

4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year, they rebelled.

5 In the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

6 and the Horites in their Mount Seir, to Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

7 They returned, and came to En Mishpat (the same is Kadesh), and struck all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that lived in Hazazon Tamar.

8 The king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar) went out; and they set the battle in array against them in the valley of Siddim;

9 against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against the five.

10 Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell there, and those who remained fled to the hills.

11 They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their food, and went their way.

12 They took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who lived in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13 One who had escaped came and told Abram, the Hebrew. Now he lived by the oaks of Mamre, the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner; and these were allies of Abram.

14 When Abram heard that his relative was taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.

15 He divided himself against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them, and pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16 He brought back all the goods, and also brought back his relative, Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

17 The king of Sodom went out to meet him, after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).

18 Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.

19 He blessed him, and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth:

20 and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
Abram gave him a tenth of all.

21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself.”

22 Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,

23 that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’

24 I will accept nothing from you except that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their portion.”

　すると、パリサイ人たちがイエスに言った、「いったい、彼らはなぜ、安息日にしてはならぬことをするのですか」。

2:25
　そこで彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは、ダビデとその供の者たちとが食物がなくて飢えたとき、ダビデが何をしたか、まだ読んだことがないのか。

2:26
　すなわち、大祭司アビアタルの時、神の家にはいって、祭司たちのほか食べてはならぬ供えのパンを、自分も食べ、また供の者たちにも与えたではないか」。

2:27
　また彼らに言われた、「安息日は人のためにあるもので、人が安息日のためにあるのではない。

2:28
　それだから、人の子は、安息日にもまた主なのである」。

　サムエルは言った、「どうしてわたしは行くことができましょう。サウルがそれを聞けば、わたしを殺すでしょう」。主は言われた、「一頭の子牛を引いていって、『主に犠牲をささげるためにきました』と言いなさい。

　そしてエッサイを犠牲の場所に呼びなさい。その時わたしはあなたのすることを示します。わたしがあなたに告げる人に油を注がなければならない」。

+ First Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13

1 Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”

2 Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.”
Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.

3 Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. You shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.”
4 Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”

5 He said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” He sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

6 When they had come, he looked at Eliab, and said, “Surely Yahweh’s anointed is before him.”

7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for I see not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”

8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”

9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. He said, “Neither has Yahweh chosen this one.”

10 Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, “Yahweh has not chosen these.”

11 Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your children here?”
He said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is keeping the sheep.”
Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”

12 He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful face, and goodly to look on. Yahweh said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

26 How he entered into God’s house when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the show bread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?”

27 He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

28 Therefore the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”

12:1 Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Get out of your country, and from your relatives, and from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.

2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. All of the families of the earth will be blessed in you.”

4 So Abram went, as Yahweh had spoken to him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed out of Haran.

5 Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother’s son, all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls whom they had gotten in Haran, and they went to go into the land of Canaan. Into the land of Canaan they came.

6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. The Canaanite was then in the land.

7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your seed.” *
He built an altar there to Yahweh, who appeared to him.

8 He left from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on Yahweh’s name.

9 Abram traveled, going on still toward the South.

13:2 Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3 He went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

4 to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. There Abram called on Yahweh’s name.

5 Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 The land was not able to bear them, that they might live together: for their substance was great, so that they could not live together.

7 There was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite lived in the land at that time.

8 Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are relatives.

9 Isn’t the whole land before you? Please separate yourself from me. If you go to the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”

10 Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the plain of the Jordan, that it was well-watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

11 So Lot chose the Plain of the Jordan for himself. Lot traveled east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.

12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

13 Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Yahweh.

14 Yahweh said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, “Now, lift up your eyes, and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward,

15 for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

16 I will make your offspring as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then your seed may also be numbered.

17 Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth; for I will give it to you.”

18 Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Yahweh.

　するとイエスは言われた、「婚礼の客は、花婿が一緒にいるのに、断食ができるであろうか。花婿と一緒にいる間は、断食はできない。

2:20
　しかし、花婿が奪い去られる日が来る。その日には断食をするであろう。

2:21
　だれも、真新しい布ぎれを、古い着物に縫いつけはしない。もしそうすれば、新しいつぎは古い着物を引き破り、そして、破れがもっとひどくなる。

2:22
　まただれも、新しいぶどう酒を古い皮袋に入れはしない。もしそうすれば、ぶどう酒は皮袋をはり裂き、そして、ぶどう酒も皮袋もむだになってしまう。〔だから、新しいぶどう酒は新しい皮袋に入れるべきである〕」。

11:1
　全地は同じ発音、同じ言葉であった。

11:2
　時に人々は東に移り、シナルの地に平野を得て、そこに住んだ。

11:3
　彼らは互に言った、「さあ、れんがを造って、よく焼こう」。こうして彼らは石の代りに、れんがを得、しっくいの代りに、アスファルトを得た。

11:4
　彼らはまた言った、「さあ、町と塔とを建てて、その頂を天に届かせよう。そしてわれわれは名を上げて、全地のおもてに散るのを免れよう」。

11:5
　時に主は下って、人の子たちの建てる町と塔とを見て、

11:6
　言われた、「民は一つで、みな同じ言葉である。彼らはすでにこの事をしはじめた。彼らがしようとする事は、もはや何事もとどめ得ないであろう。

11:7
　さあ、われわれは下って行って、そこで彼らの言葉を乱し、互に言葉が通じないようにしよう」。

　こうして主が彼らをそこから全地のおもてに散らされたので、彼らは町を建てるのをやめた。

　これによってその町の名はバベルと呼ばれた。主がそこで全地の言葉を乱されたからである。主はそこから彼らを全地のおもてに散らされた。
