★ヨハネによる福音(8:21-30)

8:21
　さて、また彼らに言われた、「わたしは去って行く。あなたがたはわたしを捜し求めるであろう。そして自分の罪のうちに死ぬであろう。わたしの行く所には、あなたがたは来ることができない」。

8:22
　そこでユダヤ人たちは言った、「わたしの行く所に、あなたがたは来ることができないと、言ったのは、あるいは自殺でもしようとするつもりか」。

8:23
　イエスは彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは下から出た者だが、わたしは上からきた者である。あなたがたはこの世の者であるが、わたしはこの世の者ではない。

8:24
　だからわたしは、あなたがたは自分の罪のうちに死ぬであろうと、言ったのである。もしわたしがそういう者であることをあなたがたが信じなければ、罪のうちに死ぬことになるからである」。

8:25
　そこで彼らはイエスに言った、「あなたは、いったい、どういうかたですか」。イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしがどういう者であるかは、初めからあなたがたに言っているではないか。

8:26
　あなたがたについて、わたしの言うべきこと、さばくべきことが、たくさんある。しかし、わたしをつかわされたかたは真実なかたである。わたしは、そのかたから聞いたままを世にむかって語るのである」。

8:27
　彼らは、イエスが父について話しておられたことを悟らなかった。

8:28
　そこでイエスは言われた、「あなたがたが人の子を上げてしまった後はじめて、わたしがそういう者であること、また、わたしは自分からは何もせず、ただ父が教えて下さったままを話していたことが、わかってくるであろう。

8:29
　わたしをつかわされたかたは、わたしと一緒におられる。わたしは、いつも神のみこころにかなうことをしているから、わたしをひとり置きざりになさることはない」。

★民数記(21:4-9)

21:4
　民はホル山から進み、紅海の道をとおって、エドムの地を回ろうとしたが、民はその道に堪えがたくなった。

21:5
　民は神とモーセとにむかい、つぶやいて言った、「あなたがたはなぜわたしたちをエジプトから導き上って、荒野で死なせようとするのですか。ここには食物もなく、水もありません。わたしたちはこの粗悪な食物はいやになりました」。

21:6
　そこで主は、火のへびを民のうちに送られた。へびは民をかんだので、イスラエルの民のうち、多くのものが死んだ。

21:7
　民はモーセのもとに行って言った、「わたしたちは主にむかい、またあなたにむかい、つぶやいて罪を犯しました。どうぞへびをわたしたちから取り去られるように主に祈ってください」。モーセは民のために祈った。

21:8
　そこで主はモーセに言われた、「火のへびを造って、それをさおの上に掛けなさい。すべてのかまれた者が仰いで、それを見るならば生きるであろう」。

21:9
　モーセは青銅で一つのへびを造り、それをさおの上に掛けて置いた。すべてへびにかまれた者はその青銅のへびを仰いで見て生きた。


★Psalm:詩編(102:1-2, 15-20)

73:1
　神は正しい者にむかい、心の清い者にむかって、まことに恵みふかい。

73:2
　しかし、わたしは、わたしの足がつまずくばかり、わたしの歩みがすべるばかりであった。

73:15
　もしわたしが「このような事を語ろう」と言ったなら、わたしはあなたの子らの代を誤らせたであろう。

73:16
　しかし、わたしがこれを知ろうと思いめぐらしたとき、これはわたしにめんどうな仕事のように思われた。

73:17
　わたしが神の聖所に行って、彼らの最後を悟り得たまではそうであった。

73:18
　まことにあなたは彼らをなめらかな所に置き、彼らを滅びに陥らせられる。

73:19
　なんと彼らはまたたくまに滅ぼされ、恐れをもって全く一掃されたことであろう。

73:20
　あなたが目をさまして彼らの影をかろしめられるとき、彼らは夢みた人の目をさました時のようである。

8:13
　あなたはレビびとを、アロンとその子たちの前に立たせ、これを揺祭として主にささげなければならない。

8:14
　こうして、あなたはレビびとをイスラエルの人々のうちから分かち、レビびとをわたしのものとしなければならない。

8:15
　こうして後レビびとは会見の幕屋にはいって務につくことができる。あなたは彼らを清め、彼らをささげて揺祭としなければならない。

8:16
　彼らはイスラエルの人々のうちから、全くわたしにささげられたものだからである。イスラエルの人々のうちの初めに生れた者、すなわち、すべてのういごの代りに、わたしは彼らを取ってわたしのものとした。

8:17
　イスラエルの人々のうちのういごは、人も獣も、みなわたしのものだからである。わたしはエジプトの地で、すべてのういごを撃ち殺した日に、彼らを聖別してわたしのものとした。

8:18
　それでわたしはイスラエルの人々のうちの、すべてのういごの代りにレビびとを取った。

8:19
　わたしはイスラエルの人々のうちからレビびとを取って、アロンとその子たちに与え、彼らに会見の幕屋で、イスラエルの人々に代って務をさせ、またイスラエルの人々のために罪のあがないをさせるであろう。これはイスラエルの人々が、聖所に近づいて、イスラエルの人々のうちに災の起ることのないようにするためである」。

8:20
　モーセとアロン、およびイスラエルの人々の全会衆は、すべて主がレビびとの事につき、モーセに命じられた所にしたがって、レビびとに行った、すなわち、イスラエルの人々は、そのように彼らに行った。

8:21
　そこでレビびとは身を清め、その衣服を洗った。アロンは彼らを主の前にささげて揺祭とした。アロンはまた彼らのために、罪のあがないをして彼らを清めた。

8:22
　こうして後、レビびとは会見の幕屋にはいって、アロンとその子たちに仕えて務をした。すなわち、彼らはレビびとの事について、主がモーセに命じられた所にしたがって、そのように彼らに行った。

8:23
　主はまたモーセに言われた、

8:24
　「レビびとは次のようにしなければならない。すなわち、二十五歳以上の者は務につき、会見の幕屋の働きをしなければならない。

8:25
　しかし、五十歳からは務の働きを退き、重ねて務をしてはならない。

8:26
　ただ、会見の幕屋でその兄弟たちの務の助けをすることができる。しかし、務をしてはならない。あなたがレビびとにその務をさせるには、このようにしなければならない」。

9:1
　エジプトの国を出た次の年の正月、主はシナイの荒野でモーセに言われた、

9:2
　「イスラエルの人々に、過越の祭を定めの時に行わせなさい。

9:3
　この月の十四日の夕暮、定めの時に、それを行わなければならない。あなたがたは、そのすべての定めと、そのすべてのおきてにしたがって、それを行わなければならない」。

9:4
　そこでモーセがイスラエルの人々に、過越の祭を行わなければならないと言ったので、

9:5
　彼らは正月の十四日の夕暮、シナイの荒野で過越の祭を行った。すなわち、イスラエルの人々は、すべて主がモーセに命じられたようにおこなった。

9:6
　ところが人の死体に触れて身を汚したために、その日に過越の祭を行うことのできない人々があって、その日モーセとアロンの前にきて、

9:7
　その人々は彼に言った、「わたしたちは人の死体に触れて身を汚しましたが、なぜその定めの時に、イスラエルの人々と共に、主に供え物をささげることができないのですか」。

9:8
　モーセは彼らに言った、「しばらく待て。主があなたがたについて、どう仰せになるかを聞こう」。

+ First Reading: Numbers 21:4-9

4 They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea*, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

5 The people spoke against God, and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread.”

6 Yahweh sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.

7 The people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against Yahweh, and against you. Pray to Yahweh, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses prayed for the people.

8 Yahweh said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard: and it shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”

9 Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it on the standard: and it happened, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of brass, he lived.

1 Hear my prayer, Yahweh!
Let my cry come to you.

16 For Yahweh has built up Zion.
He has appeared in his glory.

21 Jesus said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”

22 The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, that he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come?’”

23 He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

24 I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am§he, you will die in your sins.”

25 They said therefore to him, “Who are you?”
Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”

27 They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.

28 Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.

29 He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”

30 As he spoke these things, many believed in him.

8:13 You shall set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them as a wave offering to Yahweh.

14 Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine.

15 “After that, the Levites shall go in to do the service of the Tent of Meeting: and you shall cleanse them, and offer them as a wave offering.

16 For they are wholly given to me from among the children of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them to me.

17 For all the firstborn among the children of Israel are mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for myself.

18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel.

19 I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel; that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come near to the sanctuary.”

20 Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel did so to the Levites. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them.

21 The Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them for a wave offering before Yahweh; and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them.

22 After that, the Levites went in to do their service in the Tent of Meeting before Aaron, and before his sons: as Yahweh had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

23 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

24 “This is that which belongs to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service in the work of the Tent of Meeting;

25 and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting on the work, and shall serve no more,

26 but shall minister with their brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to perform the duty, and shall do no service. You shall do thus to the Levites concerning their duties.”

9:1 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 “Moreover let the children of Israel keep the Passover in its appointed season.

3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at evening, you shall keep it in its appointed season―according to all its statutes, and according to all its ordinances, you shall keep it.”

4 Moses spoke to the children of Israel, that they should keep the Passover.

5 They kept the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, in the wilderness of Sinai. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did.

6 There were certain men, who were unclean because of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day, and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

7 Those men said to him, “We are unclean because of the dead body of a man. Why are we kept back, that we may not offer the offering of Yahweh in its appointed season among the children of Israel?”

8 Moses answered them, “Wait, that I may hear what Yahweh will command concerning you.”
