　さて、イエスがガリラヤの海べを歩いておられると、ふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ペテロと呼ばれたシモンとその兄弟アンデレとが、海に網を打っているのをごらんになった。彼らは漁師であった。

4:19
　イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしについてきなさい。あなたがたを、人間をとる漁師にしてあげよう」。

4:20
　すると、彼らはすぐに網を捨てて、イエスに従った。

4:21
　そこから進んで行かれると、ほかのふたりの兄弟、すなわち、ゼベダイの子ヤコブとその兄弟ヨハネとが、父ゼベダイと一緒に、舟の中で網を繕っているのをごらんになった。そこで彼らをお招きになると、

4:22
　すぐ舟と父とをおいて、イエスに従って行った。




☆ローマ人への手紙(10:9-18)

10:9
　すなわち、自分の口で、イエスは主であると告白し、自分の心で、神が死人の中からイエスをよみがえらせたと信じるなら、あなたは救われる。

10:10
　なぜなら、人は心に信じて義とされ、口で告白して救われるからである。

10:11
　聖書は、「すべて彼を信じる者は、失望に終ることがない」と言っている。

10:12
　ユダヤ人とギリシヤ人との差別はない。同一の主が万民の主であって、彼を呼び求めるすべての人を豊かに恵んで下さるからである。

10:13
　なぜなら、「主の御名を呼び求める者は、すべて救われる」とあるからである。

10:14
　しかし、信じたことのない者を、どうして呼び求めることがあろうか。聞いたことのない者を、どうして信じることがあろうか。宣べ伝える者がいなくては、どうして聞くことがあろうか。

10:15
　つかわされなくては、どうして宣べ伝えることがあろうか。「ああ、麗しいかな、良きおとずれを告げる者の足は」と書いてあるとおりである。

10:16
　しかし、すべての人が福音に聞き従ったのではない。イザヤは、「主よ、だれがわたしたちから聞いたことを信じましたか」と言っている。

10:17
　したがって、信仰は聞くことによるのであり、聞くことはキリストの言葉から来るのである。

10:18
　しかしわたしは言う、彼らには聞えなかったのであろうか。否、むしろ「その声は全地にひびきわたり、その言葉は世界のはてにまで及んだ」。

　主のおきては完全であって、魂を生きかえらせ、主のあかしは確かであって、無学な者を賢くする。

　主のさとしは正しくて、心を喜ばせ、主の戒めはまじりなくて、眼を明らかにする。

　主を恐れる道は清らかで、とこしえに絶えることがなく、主のさばきは真実であって、ことごとく正しい。

　これらは金よりも、多くの純金よりも慕わしく、また蜜よりも、蜂の巣のしたたりよりも甘い。

　十字架の言は、滅び行く者には愚かであるが、救にあずかるわたしたちには、神の力である。

　すなわち、聖書に、「わたしは知者の知恵を滅ぼし、賢い者の賢さをむなしいものにする」と書いてある。

　知者はどこにいるか。学者はどこにいるか。この世の論者はどこにいるか。神はこの世の知恵を、愚かにされたではないか。

1:21
　この世は、自分の知恵によって神を認めるに至らなかった。それは、神の知恵にかなっている。そこで神は、宣教の愚かさによって、信じる者を救うこととされたのである。

　ユダヤ人はしるしを請い、ギリシヤ人は知恵を求める。

　それだのに神は、知者をはずかしめるために、この世の愚かな者を選び、強い者をはずかしめるために、この世の弱い者を選び、

9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”☆

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him.

13 For, “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”☆

14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?

15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

　そのとき、ユダヤにいる人々は山へ逃げよ。市中にいる者は、そこから出て行くがよい。また、いなかにいる者は市内にはいってはいけない。

　それは、聖書にしるされたすべての事が実現する刑罰の日であるからだ。

21:23
　その日には、身重の女と乳飲み子をもつ女とは、不幸である。地上には大きな苦難があり、この民にはみ怒りが臨み、

21:24
　彼らはつるぎの刃に倒れ、また捕えられて諸国へ引きゆかれるであろう。そしてエルサレムは、異邦人の時期が満ちるまで、彼らに踏みにじられているであろう。

2 He cried with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and she has become a habitation of demons, a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird!

21 A mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down, and will be found no more at all.

22 The voice of harpists, minstrels, flute players, and trumpeters will be heard no more at all in you. No craftsman, of whatever craft, will be found any more at all in you. The sound of a mill will be heard no more at all in you.

23 The light of a lamp will shine no more at all in you. The voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will be heard no more at all in you; for your merchants were the princes of the earth; for with your sorcery all the nations were deceived.

19:1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation, power, and glory belong to our God:

2 for true and righteous are his judgments. For he has judged the great prostitute, who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and he has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”

3 A second said, “Hallelujah! Her smoke goes up forever and ever.”

9a He said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’”

23 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who nurse infants in those days! For there will be great distress in the land, and wrath to this people.

24 They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

25 There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars; and on the earth anxiety of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the waves;

26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

28 But when these things begin to happen, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.”

2 in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years about which Yahweh’s word† came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years.

3 I set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and petitions, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes.

4 I prayed to Yahweh my God, and made confession, and said, Oh, Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments,

18 My God, turn your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name: for we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercies’ sake.

19 Lord, hear; Lord, forgive; Lord, listen and do; don’t defer, for your own sake, my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.

20 While I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God;

21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening offering.

22 He instructed me, and talked with me, and said, Daniel, I have now come to give you wisdom and understanding.

23 At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went out, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved: therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

24 Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to finish disobedience, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.

25 Know therefore and discern, that from the going out of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Anointed One,‡ the prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: it shall be built again, with street and moat, even in troubled times.

26 After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One§ shall be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and its end shall be with a flood, and even to the end shall be war; desolations are determined.

27 He shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the middle of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease; and on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate; and even to the full end, and that determined, shall wrath be poured out on the desolate.

☆今日の読書：ダニエル書(8:1-26)

8:1
　われダニエルは先に幻を見たが、後またベルシャザル王の治世の第三年に、一つの幻がわたしに示された。

8:2
　その幻を見たのは、エラム州の首都スサにいた時であって、ウライ川のほとりにおいてであった。

8:3
　わたしが目をあげて見ると、川の岸に一匹の雄羊が立っていた。これに二つの角があって、その角は共に長かったが、一つの角は他の角よりも長かった。その長いのは後に伸びたのである。

8:4
　わたしが見ていると、その雄羊は、西、北、南にむかって突撃したが、これに当ることのできる獣は一匹もなく、またその手から救い出すことのできるものもなかった。これはその心のままにふるまい、みずから高ぶっていた。

8:5
　わたしがこれを考え、見ていると、一匹の雄やぎが、全地のおもてを飛びわたって西からきたが、その足は土を踏まなかった。このやぎには、目の間に著しい一つの角があった。

8:6
　この者は、さきにわたしが川の岸に立っているのを見た、あの二つの角のある雄羊にむかってきて、激しく怒ってこれに走り寄った。

　わたしが見ていると、それが雄羊に近寄るや、これにむかって怒りを発し、雄羊を撃って、その二つの角を砕いた。雄羊には、これに当る力がなかったので、やぎは雄羊を地に打ち倒して踏みつけた。また、その雄羊を、やぎの力から救いうる者がなかった。

　こうして、その雄やぎは、はなはだしく高ぶったが、その盛んになった時、あの大きな角が折れて、その代りに四つの著しい角が生じ、天の四方に向かった。

　その角の一つから、一つの小さい角が出て、南に向かい、東に向かい、麗しい地に向かって、はなはだしく大きくなり、

　天の衆群に及ぶまでに大きくなり、星の衆群のうちの数個を地に投げ下して、これを踏みつけ、

　またみずから高ぶって、その衆群の主に敵し、その常供の燔祭を取り除き、かつその聖所を倒した。

3 They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,
“Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty!
Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations.

4 Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord,
and glorify your name?
For you only are holy.
For all the nations will come and worship before you.
For your righteous acts have been revealed.”

1 In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.

2 I saw in the vision; now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.

3 Then I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; and no animals could stand before him, neither was there any who could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and magnified himself.

5 As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west over the surface of the whole earth, and didn’t touch the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

6 He came to the ram that had the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and ran on him in the fury of his power.

7 I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with anger against him, and struck the ram, and broke his two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled on him; and there was no one who could deliver the ram out of his hand.

8 The male goat magnified himself exceedingly: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notable horns toward the four winds of the sky.

9 Out of one of them came out a little horn, which grew exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious land.

10 It grew great, even to the army of the sky; and some of the army and of the stars it cast down to the ground, and trampled on them.

11 Yes, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the army; and it took away from him the continual burnt offering, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

12 The army was given over to it together with the continual burnt offering through disobedience; and it cast down truth to the ground, and it did its pleasure and prospered.

13 Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who spoke, How long shall be the vision about the continual burnt offering, and the disobedience that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the army to be trodden under foot?

14 He said to me, To two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

15 When I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

16 I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

17 So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face: but he said to me, Understand, son of man; for the vision belongs to the time of the end.

18 Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright.

19 He said, Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the latter time of the indignation; for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.

20 The ram which you saw, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.

21 The rough male goat is the king of Greece: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

22 As for that which was broken, in the place where four stood up, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not with his power.

23 In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have come to the full, a king of fierce face, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper in what he does; and he shall destroy the mighty ones and the holy people.

25 Through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and he shall destroy many in their security. He shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

26 The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true: but seal up the vision; for it belongs to many days to come.

　ある人々が、見事な石と奉納物とで宮が飾られていることを話していたので、イエスは言われた、

　「あなたがたはこれらのものをながめているが、その石一つでもくずされずに、他の石の上に残ることもなくなる日が、来るであろう」。

21:7
　そこで彼らはたずねた、「先生、では、いつそんなことが起るのでしょうか。またそんなことが起るような場合には、どんな前兆がありますか」。

21:8
　イエスが言われた、「あなたがたは、惑わされないように気をつけなさい。多くの者がわたしの名を名のって現れ、自分がそれだとか、時が近づいたとか、言うであろう。彼らについて行くな。

21:9
　戦争と騒乱とのうわさを聞くときにも、おじ恐れるな。こうしたことはまず起らねばならないが、終りはすぐにはこない」。

21:10
　それから彼らに言われた、「民は民に、国は国に敵対して立ち上がるであろう。

21:11
　また大地震があり、あちこちに疫病やききんが起り、いろいろ恐ろしいことや天からの物すごい前兆があるであろう。

　雲の上に座している者は、そのかまを地に投げ入れた。すると、地のものが刈り取られた。

　また、もうひとりの御使が、天の聖所から出てきたが、彼もまた鋭いかまを持っていた。

　さらに、もうひとりの御使で、火を支配する権威を持っている者が、祭壇から出てきて、鋭いかまを持つ御使にむかい、大声で言った、「その鋭いかまを地に入れて、地のぶどうのふさを刈り集めなさい。ぶどうの実がすでに熟しているから」。

　そこで、御使はそのかまを地に投げ入れて、地のぶどうを刈り集め、神の激しい怒りの大きな酒ぶねに投げ込んだ。

　そこでその人々は言った、「われわれはダニエルの神の律法に関して、彼を訴える口実を得るのでなければ、ついに彼を訴えることはできまい」と。

　こうして総監と総督らは、王のもとに集まってきて、王に言った、「ダリヨス王よ、どうかとこしえに生きながらえられますように。

6:7
　国の総監、長官および総督、参議および知事らは、相はかって、王が一つのおきてを立て、一つの禁令を定められるよう求めることになりました。王よ、それはこうです。すなわち今から三十日の間は、ただあなたにのみ願い事をさせ、もしあなたをおいて、神または人にこれをなす者があれば、すべてその者を、ししの穴に投げ入れるというのです。

6:8
　それで王よ、その禁令を定め、その文書に署名して、メデアとペルシャの変ることのない法律のごとく、これを変えることのできないようにしてください」。

6:9
　そこでダリヨス王は、その禁令の文書に署名した。

　ダニエルは、その文書の署名されたことを知って家に帰り、二階のへやの、エルサレムに向かって窓の開かれた所で、以前からおこなっていたように、一日に三度ずつ、ひざをかがめて神の前に祈り、かつ感謝した。

　そこでその人々は集まってきて、ダニエルがその神の前に祈り、かつ求めていることを見たので、

　彼らは王の前にきて、王の禁令について奏上して言った、「王よ、あなたは禁令に署名して、今から三十日の間は、ただあなたにのみ願い事をさせ、もしあなたをおいて、神または人に、これをなす者があれば、すべてその者を、ししの穴に投げ入れると、定められたではありませんか」。王は答えて言った、「その事は確かであって、メデアとペルシャの法律のごとく、変えることのできないものだ」。

　彼らは王の前に答えて言った、「王よ、ユダから引いてきた捕囚のひとりである、かのダニエルは、あなたをも、あなたの署名された禁令をも顧みず、一日に三度ずつ、祈をささげています」。

　王はこの言葉を聞いて大いに憂え、ダニエルを救おうと心を用い、日の入るまで、彼を救い出すことに努めた。

6:15
　時にその人々は、また王のもとに集まってきて、王に言った、「王よ、メデアとペルシャの法律によれば、王の立てた禁令、または、おきては変えることのできないものであることを、ご承知ください」。

6:16
　そこで王は命令を下したので、ダニエルは引き出されて、ししの穴に投げ入れられた。王はダニエルに言った、「どうか、あなたの常に仕える神が、あなたを救われるように」。

　そして一つの石を持ってきて、穴の口をふさいだので、王は自分の印と、大臣らの印をもって、これに封印した。これはダニエルの処置を変えることのないようにするためであった。

　こうして王はその宮殿に帰ったが、その夜は食をとらず、また、そばめたちを召し寄せず、全く眠ることもしなかった。

　こうして王は朝まだき起きて、ししの穴へ急いで行ったが、

　ダニエルのいる穴に近づいたとき、悲しげな声をあげて呼ばわり、ダニエルに言った、「生ける神のしもべダニエルよ、あなたが常に仕えている神はあなたを救って、ししの害を免れさせることができたか」。

6:21
　ダニエルは王に言った、「王よ、どうか、とこしえに生きながらえられますように。

6:22
　わたしの神はその使をおくって、ししの口を閉ざされたので、ししはわたしを害しませんでした。これはわたしに罪のないことが、神の前に認められたからです。王よ、わたしはあなたの前にも、何も悪い事をしなかったのです」。

6:23
　そこで王は大いに喜び、ダニエルを穴の中から出せと命じたので、ダニエルは穴の中から出されたが、その身になんの害をも受けていなかった。これは彼が自分の神を頼みとしていたからである。

6:24
　王はまた命令を下して、ダニエルをあしざまに訴えた人々を引いてこさせ、彼らをその妻子と共に、ししの穴に投げ入れさせた。彼らが穴の底に達しないうちに、ししは彼らにとびかかって、その骨までもかみ砕いた。

　そこでダリヨス王は全世界に住む諸民、諸族、諸国語の者に詔を書きおくって言った、「どうか、あなたがたに平安が増すように。

　わたしは命令を出す。わが国のすべての州の人は、皆ダニエルの神を、おののき恐れなければならない。彼は生ける神であって、とこしえに変ることなく、その国は滅びず、その主権は終りまで続く。

14 I looked, and behold, a white cloud; and on the cloud one sitting like a son of man, ☆ having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

15 Another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Send your sickle, and reap; for the hour to reap has come; for the harvest of the earth is ripe!”

16 He who sat on the cloud thrust his sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 Another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven. He also had a sharp sickle.

18 Another angel came out from the altar, he who has power over fire, and he called with a great voice to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Send your sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for the earth’s grapes are fully ripe!”

19 The angel thrust his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth, and threw it into the great wine press of the wrath of God.

5 Then these men said, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

6 Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, King Darius, live forever.

7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn’t alter.

9 Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

10 When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his room toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

11 Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.

12 Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king’s decree: Haven’t you signed an decree, that every man who shall make petition to any god or man within thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn’t alter.

13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was very displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.

15 Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.

16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

17 A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep fled from him.

19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.

20 When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spoke and said to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

21 Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever.

22 My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

23 Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

24 The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

25 Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

26 I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed; and his dominion shall be even to the end.

27 He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

2 I heard a sound from heaven, like the sound of many waters, and like the sound of a great thunder. The sound which I heard was like that of harpists playing on their harps.

3 They sing a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the one hundred forty-four thousand, those who had been redeemed out of the earth.

4b These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed by Jesus from among men, the first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

5 In their mouth was found no lie, for they are blameless.*

5 In the same hour, the fingers of a man’s hand came out and wrote near the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

6 Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.

7 The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever shall read this writing, and show me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

8 Then came in all the king’s wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.

9 Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his face was changed in him, and his lords were perplexed.

13 Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Are you that Daniel, who are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

14 I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

15 Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me its interpretation; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.

16 But I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations, and dissolve doubts; now if you can read the writing, and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

17 Then Daniel answered before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

25 This is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and brought it to an end;

27 TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.

28 PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

30 In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

31 Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

6:1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;

　ピラトは答えた、「わたしはユダヤ人なのか。あなたの同族や祭司長たちが、あなたをわたしに引き渡したのだ。あなたは、いったい、何をしたのか」。

18:36
　イエスは答えられた、「わたしの国はこの世のものではない。もしわたしの国がこの世のものであれば、わたしに従っている者たちは、わたしをユダヤ人に渡さないように戦ったであろう。しかし事実、わたしの国はこの世のものではない」。

18:37
　そこでピラトはイエスに言った、「それでは、あなたは王なのだな」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたの言うとおり、わたしは王である。わたしは真理についてあかしをするために生れ、また、そのためにこの世にきたのである。だれでも真理につく者は、わたしの声に耳を傾ける」。

　バビロンの王ベルシャザルの元年に、ダニエルは床にあって夢を見、また悩中に幻を得たので、彼はその夢をしるして、その事の大意を述べた。

7:2
　ダニエルは述べて言った、「わたしは夜の幻のうちに見た。見よ、天の四方からの風が大海をかきたてると、

　四つの大きな獣が海からあがってきた。その形は、おのおの異なり、

7:4
　第一のものは、ししのようで、わしの翼をもっていたが、わたしが見ていると、その翼は抜きとられ、また地から起されて、人のように二本の足で立たせられ、かつ人の心が与えられた。

7:5
　見よ、第二の獣は熊のようであった。これはそのからだの一方をあげ、その口の歯の間に、三本の肋骨をくわえていたが、これに向かって『起きあがって、多くの肉を食らえ』と言う声があった。

7:6
　その後わたしが見たのは、ひょうのような獣で、その背には鳥の翼が四つあった。またこの獣には四つの頭があり、主権が与えられた。

7:7
　その後わたしが夜の幻のうちに見た第四の獣は、恐ろしい、ものすごい、非常に強いもので、大きな鉄の歯があり、食らい、かつ、かみ砕いて、その残りを足で踏みつけた。これは、その前に出たすべての獣と違って、十の角を持っていた。

　わたしが、その角を注意して見ていると、その中に、また一つの小さい角が出てきたが、この小さい角のために、さきの角のうち三つがその根から抜け落ちた。見よ、この小さい角には、人の目のような目があり、また大きな事を語る口があった。

　わたしが見ていると、もろもろのみ座が設けられて、日の老いたる者が座しておられた。その衣は雪のように白く、頭の毛は混じりもののない羊の毛のようであった。そのみ座は火の炎であり、その車輪は燃える火であった。

7:10
　彼の前から、ひと筋の火の流れが出てきた。彼に仕える者は千々、彼の前にはべる者は万々、審判を行う者はその席に着き、かずかずの書き物が開かれた。

7:11
　わたしは、その角の語る大いなる言葉の声がするので見ていたが、わたしが見ている間にその獣は殺され、そのからだはそこなわれて、燃える火に投げ入れられた。

7:12
　その他の獣はその主権を奪われたが、その命は、時と季節の来るまで延ばされた。

7:13
　わたしはまた夜の幻のうちに見ていると、見よ、人の子のような者が、天の雲に乗ってきて、日の老いたる者のもとに来ると、その前に導かれた。

　十の角はこの国から起る十人の王である。その後にまたひとりの王が起る。彼は先の者と異なり、かつ、その三人の王を倒す。

　彼は、いと高き者に敵して言葉を出し、かつ、いと高き者の聖徒を悩ます。彼はまた時と律法とを変えようと望む。聖徒はひと時と、ふた時と、半時の間、彼の手にわたされる。

　しかし審判が行われ、彼の主権は奪われて、永遠に滅び絶やされ、

6 After this I saw, and behold, another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird; the animal had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

7 After this I saw in the night visions, and, behold, a fourth animal, awesome and powerful, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet: and it was diverse from all the animals that were before it; and it had ten horns.

8 I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots: and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

9 I saw until thrones were placed, and one who was ancient of days sat: his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire.

10 A fiery stream issued and came out from before him: thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

11 I saw at that time because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke; I saw even until the animal was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire.

12 As for the rest of the animals, their dominion was taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

13 I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

14 There was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

15 As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

16 I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things. 17 These great animals, which are four, are four kings, who shall arise out of the earth.

23 Thus he said, The fourth animal shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be diverse from all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

24 As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom shall ten kings arise: and another shall arise after them; and he shall be diverse from the former, and he shall put down three kings.

25 He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.

26 But the judgment shall be set, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it to the end.

27 The kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole sky, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High: his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

　「先生、モーセは、わたしたちのためにこう書いています、『もしある人の兄が妻をめとり、子がなくて死んだなら、弟はこの女をめとって、兄のために子をもうけねばならない』。

　ところで、ここに七人の兄弟がいました。長男は妻をめとりましたが、子がなくて死に、

　そして次男、三男と、次々に、その女をめとり、

　七人とも同様に、子をもうけずに死にました。

　のちに、その女も死にました。

　さて、復活の時には、この女は七人のうち、だれの妻になるのですか。七人とも彼女を妻にしたのですが」。

　すなわち彼らはネブカデネザル王に言った、「王よ、とこしえに生きながらえられますように。

　王よ、あなたは命令を出して仰せられました。すべて、角笛、横笛、琴、三角琴、立琴、風笛などの、もろもろの楽器の音を聞く者は皆、ひれ伏して金の像を拝まなければならない。

　また、だれでもひれ伏して拝まない者はみな、火の燃える炉の中に投げ込まれると。

　ここにあなたが任命して、バビロン州の事務をつかさどらせられているユダヤ人シャデラク、メシャクおよびアベデネゴがおります。王よ、この人々はあなたを尊ばず、あなたの神々にも仕えず、あなたの立てられた金の像をも拝もうとしません」。

　総督、長官、知事および王の大臣たちも集まってきて、この人々を見たが、火は彼らの身にはなんの力もなく、その頭の毛は焼けず、その外套はそこなわれず、火のにおいもこれに付かなかった。

　ネブカデネザルは言った、「シャデラク、メシャク、アベデネゴの神はほむべきかな。神はその使者をつかわして、自分に寄り頼むしもべらを救った。また彼らは自分の神以外の神に仕え、拝むよりも、むしろ王の命令を無視し、自分の身をも捨てようとしたのだ。

+ First Reading: Revelation 11:4-12

4 These are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands, standing before the Lord of the earth.

5 If anyone desires to harm them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies. If anyone desires to harm them, he must be killed in this way.

6 These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

7 When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them.

8 Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

9 From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb.

10 Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

11 After the three and a half days, the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood on their feet. Great fear fell on those who saw them.

12 I heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up here!” They went up into heaven in the cloud, and their enemies saw them.

29 There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

30 The second took her as wife, and he died childless.

31 The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.

32 Afterward the woman also died.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”

34 Jesus said to them, “The children of this age marry, and are given in marriage.

35 But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.

36 For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ ☆

38 Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”

39 Some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you speak well.”

40 They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.

9 They answered Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live for ever.

10 You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image;

11 and whoever doesn’t fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace.

12 There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not respected you. They don’t serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his appearance was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.

20 He commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their pants, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other clothes, and were cast into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.

22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

23 These three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the middle of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spoke and said to his counselors, Didn’t we cast three men bound into the middle of the fire? They answered the king, True, O king.

25 He answered, Look, I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and they are unharmed; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods.

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace: he spoke and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, you servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the middle of the fire.

27 The satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king’s counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power on their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their pants changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.

28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king’s word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

29 Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything evil against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god who is able to deliver after this sort.

30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

　あなたが鉄と粘土との混じったのを見られたように、それらは婚姻によって、互に混ざるでしょう。しかし鉄と粘土とは相混じらないように、かれとこれと相合することはありません。

　それらの王たちの世に、天の神は一つの国を立てられます。これはいつまでも滅びることがなく、その主権は他の民にわたされず、かえってこれらのもろもろの国を打ち破って滅ぼすでしょう。そしてこの国は立って永遠に至るのです。

　一つの石が人手によらずに山から切り出され、その石が鉄と、青銅と、粘土と、銀と、金とを打ち砕いたのを、あなたが見られたのはこの事です。大いなる神がこの後に起るべきことを、王に知らされたのです。その夢はまことであって、この解き明かしは確かです」。

　そこでネブカデネザル王はひれ伏して、ダニエルを拝し、供え物と薫香とを、彼にささげることを命じた。

　そして王はダニエルに答えて言った、「あなたがこの秘密をあらわすことができたのを見ると、まことに、あなたがたの神は神々の神、王たちの主であって、秘密をあらわされるかただ」。

10 I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up. It was as sweet as honey in my mouth. When I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.

28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head on your bed, are these:

29 as for you, O king, your thoughts came on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what shall happen.

30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

31 You, O king, saw, and behold,* a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its aspect was awesome.

32 As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass,

33 its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay.

34 You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.

35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

36 This is the dream; and we will tell its interpretation before the king.

37 You, O king, are king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory;

38 and wherever the children of men dwell, the animals of the field and the birds of the sky has he given into your hand, and has made you to rule over them all: you are the head of gold.

39 After you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you; and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.

40 The fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, because iron breaks in pieces and subdues all things; and as iron that crushes all these, shall it break in pieces and crush.

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, because you saw the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 As the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

43 Whereas you saw the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cling to one another, even as iron does not mingle with clay.

44 In the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall its sovereignty be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.

45 Because you saw that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall happen hereafter: and the dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.

　いつかは、敵が周囲に塁を築き、おまえを取りかこんで、四方から押し迫り、

　おまえとその内にいる子らとを地に打ち倒し、城内の一つの石も他の石の上に残して置かない日が来るであろう。それは、おまえ が神のおとずれの時を知らないでいたからである」。

　主はユダの王エホヤキムと、神の宮の器具の一部とを、彼の手にわたされたので、彼はこれをシナルの地の自分の神の宮に携えゆき、その器具を自分の神の蔵に納めた。

　時に王は宦官の長アシペナズに、イスラエルの人々の中から、王の血統の者と、貴族たる者数人とを、連れて来るように命じた。

1 I saw, in the right hand of him who sat on the throne, a book written inside and outside, sealed shut with seven seals.

2 I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book, and to break its seals?”

3 No one in heaven above, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look in it.

4 And I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look in it.

5 One of the elders said to me, “Don’t weep. Behold, the Lion who is of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome; he who opens the book and its seven seals.”

6 I saw in the middle of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the middle of the elders, a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, having seven horns, and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

7 Then he came, and he took it out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne.

8 Now when he had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and besieged it.

2 The Lord* gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; † and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

3 The king spoke to Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in some of the children of Israel, even of the royal offspring‡ and of the nobles;

4 youths in whom was no defect, but well-favored, and skillful in all wisdom, and endowed with knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.

5 The king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s dainties, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at its end they should stand before the king.

6 Now among these were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.

7 The prince of the eunuchs gave names to them: to Daniel he gave the name Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, Shadrach; and to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.

8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s dainties, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

9 Now God made Daniel to find kindness and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.

10 The prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the youths who are of your own age? so would you endanger my head with the king.

11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

12 Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink.

13 Then let our faces be looked on before you, and the face of the youths who eat of the king’s dainties; and as you see, deal with your servants.

14 So he listened to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

15 At the end of ten days their faces appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youths who ate of the king’s dainties.

16 So the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.

17 Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

18 At the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.

19 The king talked with them; and among them all was found no one like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.

20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters who were in all his realm.

21 Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.

　人々がこれらの言葉を聞いているときに、イエスはなお一つの譬をお話しになった。それはエルサレムに近づいてこられたし、また人々が神の国はたちまち現れると思っていたためである。

19:12
　それで言われた、「ある身分の高い人が、王位を受けて帰ってくるために遠い所へ旅立つことになった。

19:13
　そこで十人の僕を呼び十ミナを渡して言った、『わたしが帰って来るまで、これで商売をしなさい』。

19:14
　ところが、本国の住民は彼を憎んでいたので、あとから使者をおくって、『この人が王になるのをわれわれは望んでいない』と言わせた。

19:15
　さて、彼が王位を受けて帰ってきたとき、だれがどんなもうけをしたかを知ろうとして、金を渡しておいた僕たちを呼んでこさせた。

19:16
　最初の者が進み出て言った、『ご主人様、あなたの一ミナで十ミナをもうけました』。

19:17
　主人は言った、『よい僕よ、うまくやった。あなたは小さい事に忠実であったから、十の町を支配させる』。

　すると、たちまち、わたしは御霊に感じた。見よ、御座が天に設けられており、その御座にいますかたがあった。

　その座にいますかたは、碧玉や赤めのうのように見え、また、御座のまわりには、緑玉のように見えるにじが現れていた。

　また、御座のまわりには二十四の座があって、二十四人の長老が白い衣を身にまとい、頭に金の冠をかぶって、それらの座についていた。

　御座からは、いなずまと、もろもろの声と、雷鳴とが、発していた。また、七つのともし火が、御座の前で燃えていた。これらは、神の七つの霊である。

　御座の前は、水晶に似たガラスの海のようであった。御座のそば近くそのまわりには、四つの生き物がいたが、その前にも後にも、一面に目がついていた。

　第一の生き物はししのようであり、第二の生き物は雄牛のようであり、第三の生き物は人のような顔をしており、第四の生き物は飛ぶわしのようであった。

　この四つの生き物には、それぞれ六つの翼があり、その翼のまわりも内側も目で満ちていた。そして、昼も夜も、絶え間なくこう叫びつづけていた、「聖なるかな、聖なるかな、聖なるかな、全能者にして主なる神。昔いまし、今いまし、やがてきたるべき者」。

　これらの生き物が、御座にいまし、かつ、世々限りなく生きておられるかたに、栄光とほまれとを帰し、また、感謝をささげている時、

　さてデメトリオスは、ニカノルが戦死し、その軍勢が敗れたことを聞き、再度バキデスとアルキモスをユダヤに派遣した。彼らは右翼精鋭部隊を率いて行った。

　彼らはガルガラへの道を進み、アルベラ地方にあるマイサロトに向けて陣を敷き、先手を打ってそこを攻め取り、多くの人を殺した。

9章3節
　彼らは第百五十二年の第一の月に、エルサレムに向けて陣を敷いたが、

9章4節
　更にそこから出て、二万の軍勢と二千の騎兵と共にベレトに入った。

9章5節
　ユダも、エラサに精鋭三千の兵と共に、陣を敷いていた。

　しかしユダの軍は、敵が大軍であることを知り、すっかりおびえ、多くの者が陣を離れ、残った者はわずか八百人であった。

+ First Reading: Revelation 4:1-11

1 After these things I looked and saw a door opened in heaven, and the first voice that I heard, like a trumpet speaking with me, was one saying, “Come up here, and I will show you the things which must happen after this.”

2 Immediately I was in the Spirit. Behold, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne

3 that looked like a jasper stone and a sardius. There was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald to look at.

4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones. On the thrones were twenty-four elders sitting, dressed in white garments, with crowns of gold on their heads.

5 Out of the throne proceed lightnings, sounds, and thunders. There were seven lamps of fire burning before his throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

6 Before the throne was something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal. In the middle of the throne, and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes before and behind.

7 The first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like a man, and the fourth was like a flying eagle.

8 The four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within. They have no rest day and night, saying, “Holy, holy, holy* is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come!”

9 When the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to him who sits on the throne, to him who lives forever and ever,
10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives forever and ever, and throw their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, the Holy One,† to receive the glory, the honor, and the power, for you created all things, and because of your desire they existed, and were created!”

13 He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten mina coins, * and told them, ‘Conduct business until I come.’

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

15 “When he had come back again, having received the kingdom, he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

16 The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’

17 “He said to him, ‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’

18 “The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.’

19 “So he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’

20 Another came, saying, ‘Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

21 for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn’t lay down, and reap that which you didn’t sow.’

22 “He said to him, ‘Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn’t lay down, and reaping that which I didn’t sow.

23 Then why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank, and at my coming, I might have earned interest on it?’

24 He said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas.’

25 “They said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’

26 ‘For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

27 But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

28 Having said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

3 And the first month of * the hundred and fifty and second year they encamped against Jerusalem:

4 and they removed, and went to Berea, with twenty thousand footmen and two thousand horse.

5 And Judas was encamped at Elasa, and three thousand chosen men with him:

6 and they saw the multitude of the forces, that they were many, and they feared exceedingly: and many slipped away out of the army; there were not left of them more than eight hundred men.

7 And Judas saw that his army slipped away, and that the battle pressed upon him, and he was sore troubled in heart, for that he had no time to gather them together, and he waxed faint.

8 And he said to them that were left, Let us arise and go up against our adversaries, if perhaps we may be able to fight with them.

9 And they would have dissuaded him, saying, We shall in no wise be able: but let us rather save our lives now: let us return again, we and our brethren, and fight against them: but we are few.

10 And Judas said, let it not be so that I should do this thing, to flee from them: and if our time is come, let us die manfully for our brethren's sake, and not leave a cause of reproach against our glory.

11 And the host removed from the camp, and stood to encounter them, and the horse was parted into two companies, and the slingers and the archers went before the host, and all the mighty men that fought in the front of the battle.

12 But Bacchides was in the right wing; and the phalanx drew near on the two parts, and they blew with their trumpets.

13 And the men of Judas' side, even they sounded with their trumpets, and the earth shook with the shout of the armies, and the battle was joined, and continued from morning until evening.

14 And Judas saw that Bacchides and the strength of his army were on the right side, and there went with him all that were brave in heart,

15 and the right wing was discomfited by them, and he pursued after them to the mount Azotus.

16 And they that were on the left wing saw that the right wing was discomfited, and they turned and followed upon the footsteps of Judas and of those that were with him:

17 and the battle waxed sore, and many on both parts fell wounded to death.

　彼は、イエスがどんな人か見たいと思っていたが、背が低かったので、群衆にさえぎられて見ることができなかった。

19:4
　それでイエスを見るために、前の方に走って行って、いちじく桑の木に登った。そこを通られるところだったからである。

19:5
　イエスは、その場所にこられたとき、上を見あげて言われた、「ザアカイよ、急いで下りてきなさい。きょう、あなたの家に泊まることにしているから」。

19:6
　そこでザアカイは急いでおりてきて、よろこんでイエスを迎え入れた。

19:7
　人々はみな、これを見てつぶやき、「彼は罪人の家にはいって客となった」と言った。

19:8
　ザアカイは立って主に言った、「主よ、わたしは誓って自分の財産の半分を貧民に施します。また、もしだれかから不正な取立てをしていましたら、それを四倍にして返します」。

　あなたは、自分は富んでいる、豊かになった、なんの不自由もないと言っているが、実は、あなた自身がみじめな者、あわれむべき者、貧しい者、目の見えない者、裸な者であることに気がついていない。

3:18
　そこで、あなたに勧める。富む者となるために、わたしから火で精錬された金を買い、また、あなたの裸の恥をさらさないため身に着けるように、白い衣を買いなさい。また、見えるようになるため、目にぬる目薬を買いなさい。

3:19
　すべてわたしの愛している者を、わたしはしかったり、懲らしめたりする。だから、熱心になって悔い改めなさい。

3:20
　見よ、わたしは戸の外に立って、たたいている。だれでもわたしの声を聞いて戸をあけるなら、わたしはその中にはいって彼と食を共にし、彼もまたわたしと食を共にするであろう。

3:21
　勝利を得る者には、わたしと共にわたしの座につかせよう。それはちょうど、わたしが勝利を得てわたしの父と共にその御座についたのと同様である。

3:22
　耳のある者は、御霊が諸教会に言うことを聞くがよい』」。

　その町の神殿は、驚くほど富んでいて、金の兜、胸当て、武器などがあったが、それはマケドニア人の王、フィリポスの子アレキサンドロスが残していったものである。このアレキサンドロスはギリシア人を統治した最初の人物である。

　アンティオコスはその町の占領と略奪をもくろんで出陣したが、たくらみが事前に市民に漏れてしまったので、成功しなかった。

1 “And to the angel of the assembly in Sardis write:
“He who has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars says these things:
“I know your works, that you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

2 Wake up, and keep the things that remain, which you were about to throw away, for I have found no works of yours perfected before my God.

3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If therefore you won’t watch, I will come as a thief, and you won’t know what hour I will come upon you.

4 Nevertheless you have a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

5 He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

6 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.

　五旬祭とも呼ばれるこの祭りの後、彼らは、イドマヤの総督ゴルギアスに向かって進軍した。

　ゴルギアスは、歩兵三千と騎兵四百を率いて出て来た。

　戦列を整えて交戦したとき、少数のユダヤ人が戦死した。

　ところで、バケノルの部下で腕力のある騎士ドシテオスという男が、ゴルギアスに手を掛け、その短いマントをつかみ、力いっぱい引きずって行った。ドシテオスは、この嫌悪すべき男を生け捕りにしようとしたのである。ところが、一人のトラキアの騎兵がドシテオスに飛びかかり、肩に切りつけたので、ゴルギアスはマリサに逃れることができた。

　エスドリスの部隊が連戦の果て、疲労の極みにあったので、ユダは主に向かって、共に戦い、神自ら指揮をとってくださるように祈った。

2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

3 Those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the expanse; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

　ロトがソドムから出て行った日に、天から火と硫黄とが降ってきて、彼らをことごとく滅ぼした。

　時に、背教を強いる王の役人たちが、異教のいけにえを献げさせるためにモデインの町にやって来た。

2章16節
　多くのイスラエル人が彼らを迎えに出、マタティアとその息子たちも集められた。

2章17節
　そこで王の役人たちは、マタティアに言った。「あなたはこの町では有力な指導者であり、御子息や御兄弟の信望もあつい。

2章18節
　率先して王の命令を果たしてもらいたい。これはすべての民族が実行しているもので、ユダの人々も、エルサレムに残留している者たちも行っているのだ。そうすれば、あなたや御子息たちは王の友人と認められ、金銀、その他多くの報奨を受ける栄誉にあずかるであろう。」

6 This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.

8 Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.

9 Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ, doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching, the same has both the Father and the Son.

17 And the king's officers answered and spoke to Mattathias, saying, You are a ruler and an honorable and great man in this city, and strengthened with sons and brethren:

18 now therefore come you first and do the commandment of the king, as all the nations have done, and the men of Judah, and they that remain in Jerusalem: and you and your house shall be in the number of the king's * Friends, and you and your sons shall be honored with silver and gold and many gifts.

19 And Mattathias answered and said with a loud voice, If all the nations that are in the house of the king's dominion hearken to him, to fall away each one from the worship of his fathers, and have made choice to follow his commandments,

20 yet will I and my sons and my brethren walk in the covenant of our fathers.

21 ‡ Heaven forbid that we should forsake the law and the ordinances.

22 We will not hearken to the king's words, to go aside from our worship, on the right hand, or on the left.

23 And when he had left speaking these words, there came a Jew in the sight of all to sacrifice on the altar which was at Modin, according to the king's commandment.

24 And Mattathias saw it, and his zeal was kindled, and his reins trembled, and he showed forth his wrath according to judgement, and ran, and killed him upon the altar.

25 And the king's officer, who compelled men to sacrifice, he killed at that time, and pulled down the altar.

26 And he was zealous for the law, even as Phinehas did to Zimri the son of Salu.

27 And Mattathias cried out in the city with a loud voice, saying, Whosoever is zealous for the law, and maintains the covenant, let him come forth after me.

28 And he and his sons fled into the mountains, and forsook all that they had in the city.

42 Then were gathered together to them a company of ** Hasidaeans, mighty men of Israel, every one that offered himself willingly for the law.

43 And all they that fled from the evils were added to them, and became a stay to them.

44 And they mustered a host, and struck sinners in their anger, and lawless men in their wrath: and the rest fled to the Gentiles for safety.

45 And Mattathias and his friends went round about, and pulled down the altars;

46 and they circumcised by force the children that were uncircumcised, as many as they found in the coasts of Israel.

47 And they pursued after the sons of pride, and the work prospered in their hand.

48 And they rescued the law out of the hand of the Gentiles, and out of the hand of the kings, neither †† suffered they the sinner to triumph.

49 And the days of Mattathias drew near that he should die, and he said to his sons,
Now have pride and rebuke gotten strength, and a season of overthrow, and wrath of indignation.

50 And now, my children, be you? zealous for the law, and give your lives for the covenant of your fathers.

65 And, behold, Simon your brother, I know that he is a man of counsel; give ear to him always: he shall be a father to you.

66 And Judas Maccabaeus, he has been strong and mighty from his youth: he shall be your captain, and ‡‡ shall fight the battle of the people.

67 And take you? to you all the doers of the law, and avenge the wrong of your people.

68 Render a recompense to the Gentiles, and take heed to the commandments of the law.

17:20
　神の国はいつ来るのかと、パリサイ人が尋ねたので、イエスは答えて言われた、「神の国は、見られるかたちで来るものではない。

17:21
　また『見よ、ここにある』『あそこにある』などとも言えない。神の国は、実にあなたがたのただ中にあるのだ」。

17:22
　それから弟子たちに言われた、「あなたがたは、人の子の日を一日でも見たいと願っても見ることができない時が来るであろう。

17:23
　人々はあなたがたに、『見よ、あそこに』『見よ、ここに』と言うだろう。しかし、そちらへ行くな、彼らのあとを追うな。

17:24
　いなずまが天の端からひかり出て天の端へとひらめき渡るように、人の子もその日には同じようであるだろう。

17:25
　しかし、彼はまず多くの苦しみを受け、またこの時代の人々に捨てられねばならない。

　もし、彼があなたに何か不都合なことをしたか、あるいは、何か負債があれば、それをわたしの借りにしておいてほしい。

　このパウロが手ずからしるす、わたしがそれを返済する。この際、あなたが、あなた自身をわたしに負うていることについては、何も言うまい。

　兄弟よ。わたしはあなたから、主にあって何か益を得たいものである。わたしの心を、主にあって力づけてもらいたい。

　それにしても、称賛されるべきはこの母親であり、記憶されるべき模範であった。わずか一日のうちに七人の息子が惨殺されるのを直視しながら、主に対する希望のゆえに、喜んでこれに耐えたのである。

7章21節
　崇高な思いに満たされて、彼女は、息子たち一人一人に父祖たちの言葉で慰めを与え、女の心情を男の勇気で奮い立たせながら、彼らに言った。

7章22節
　「わたしは、お前たちがどのようにしてわたしの胎に宿ったのか知らない。お前たちに霊と命を恵んだのでもなく、わたしがお前たち一人一人の肢体を組み合わせたのでもない。

7章23節
　人の出生をつかさどり、あらゆるものに生命を与える世界の造り主は、憐れみをもって、霊と命を再びお前たちに与えてくださる。それは今ここで、お前たちが主の律法のためには、命をも惜しまないからだ。」

7章24節
　アンティオコスは侮辱されたと感じ、その声に非難の響きを聞き取った。彼は、いちばん末の息子がまだ生きていたので、言葉で勧告するだけでなく、誓いをもって、「もし先祖の慣習を捨てるなら、富と最高の幸福を保障し、王の友人として遇し、仕事も与えよう」と約束した。

7章25節
　だが、若者が全く耳を貸そうとしないので、王は母親を呼び寄せて、少年を救うために一役買うようにと勧めた。

7章26節
　王があまりに強く勧めるので、母親は息子を説得することを承知した。

7章27節
　しかし母親は、若者の上に身をかがめ、残酷な暴君をあざけってから、父祖たちの言葉で言った。「わが子よ、わたしを憐れんでおくれ。わたしはお前を九か月も胎に宿し、三年間乳を含ませ、養い、この年になるまで導き育ててきました。

7章28節
　子よ、天と地に目を向け、そこにある万物を見て、神がこれらのものを既に在ったものから造られたのではないこと、そして人間も例外ではないということを知っておくれ。

7章29節
　この死刑執行人を恐れてはなりません。兄たちに倣って、喜んで死を受け入れなさい。そうすれば、憐れみによってわたしは、お前を兄たちと共に、神様から戻していただけるでしょう。」

7章30節
　彼女が語り終えるとすぐ、若者は王に言った。「何を待っているのだ。わたしは王の命令などに耳は貸さない。わたしが従うのは、モーセを通して我々の先祖に与えられた律法の命令である。

7章31節
　しかし、ヘブライ人に対して悪辣非道を重ねてきたあなたは、神の御手を逃れることはできないのだ。

　我々が今苦しんでいるのは、我々自身の罪のせいだ。

　わたしも、兄たちに倣って、この肉体と命を、父祖伝来の律法のために献げる。神が一刻も早く、わが民族に憐れみを回復し、また、あなたには苦しみと鞭を与えて、この方こそ神であるとあなたが認めるよう、わたしは願っている。
