エレミヤ書(17:5-10)

17:5
　主はこう言われる、「おおよそ人を頼みとし肉なる者を自分の腕とし、その心が主を離れている人は、のろわれる。

17:6
　彼は荒野に育つ小さい木のように、何も良いことの来るのを見ない。荒野の、干上がった所に住み、人の住まない塩地にいる。

17:7
　おおよそ主にたより、主を頼みとする人はさいわいである。

17:8
　彼は水のほとりに植えた木のようで、その根を川にのばし、暑さにあっても恐れることはない。その葉は常に青く、ひでりの年にも憂えることなく、絶えず実を結ぶ」。

17:9
　心はよろずの物よりも偽るもので、はなはだしく悪に染まっている。だれがこれを、よく知ることができようか。

17:10
　「主であるわたしは心を探り、思いを試みる。おのおのに、その道にしたがい、その行いの実によって報いをするためである」。

　ある金持がいた。彼は紫の衣や細布を着て、毎日ぜいたくに遊び暮していた。

　ところが、ラザロという貧乏人が全身でき物でおおわれて、この金持の玄関の前にすわり、

　その食卓から落ちるもので飢えをしのごうと望んでいた。その上、犬がきて彼のでき物をなめていた。

　この貧乏人がついに死に、御使たちに連れられてアブラハムのふところに送られた。金持も死んで葬られた。

16:23
　そして黄泉にいて苦しみながら、目をあげると、アブラハムとそのふところにいるラザロとが、はるかに見えた。

16:24
　そこで声をあげて言った、『父、アブラハムよ、わたしをあわれんでください。ラザロをおつかわしになって、その指先を水でぬらし、わたしの舌を冷やさせてください。わたしはこの火炎の中で苦しみもだえています』。

16:25
　アブラハムが言った、『子よ、思い出すがよい。あなたは生前よいものを受け、ラザロの方は悪いものを受けた。しかし今ここでは、彼は慰められ、あなたは苦しみもだえている。

16:26
　そればかりか、わたしたちとあなたがたとの間には大きな淵がおいてあって、こちらからあなたがたの方へ渡ろうと思ってもできないし、そちらからわたしたちの方へ越えて来ることもできない』。

　そこで金持が言った、『父よ、ではお願いします。わたしの父の家へラザロをつかわしてください。

　わたしに五人の兄弟がいますので、こんな苦しい所へ来ることがないように、彼らに警告していただきたいのです』。

　アブラハムは言った、『彼らにはモーセと預言者とがある。それに聞くがよかろう』。

　金持が言った、『いえいえ、父アブラハムよ、もし死人の中からだれかが兄弟たちのところへ行ってくれましたら、彼らは悔い改めるでしょう』。

　アブラハムは言った、『もし彼らがモーセと預言者とに耳を傾けないなら、死人の中からよみがえってくる者があっても、彼らはその勧めを聞き入れはしないであろう』」。

　わたしがあなたがたの前に述べたこのもろもろの祝福と、のろいの事があなたに臨み、あなたがあなたの神、主に追いやられたもろもろの国民のなかでこの事を心に考えて、

30:2
　あなたもあなたの子供も共にあなたの神、主に立ち帰り、わたしが、きょう、命じるすべてのことにおいて、心をつくし、精神をつくして、主の声に聞き従うならば、

30:3
　あなたの神、主はあなたを再び栄えさせ、あなたをあわれみ、あなたの神、主はあなたを散らされた国々から再び集められるであろう。

30:4
　たといあなたが天のはてに追いやられても、あなたの神、主はそこからあなたを集め、そこからあなたを連れ帰られるであろう。

30:5
　あなたの神、主はあなたの先祖が所有した地にあなたを帰らせ、あなたはそれを所有するに至るであろう。主はまたあなたを栄えさせ、数を増して先祖たちよりも多くされるであろう。

30:6
　そしてあなたの神、主はあなたの心とあなたの子孫の心に割礼を施し、あなたをして、心をつくし、精神をつくしてあなたの神、主を愛させ、こうしてあなたに命を得させられるであろう。

30:7
　あなたの神、主はまた、あなたを迫害する敵と、あなたを憎む者とに、このもろもろののろいをこうむらせられるであろう。

　しかし、あなたは再び主の声に聞き従い、わたしが、きょう、あなたに命じるすべての戒めを守るであろう。

30:9
　そうすればあなたの神、主はあなたのするすべてのことと、あなたの身から生れる者と、家畜の産むものと、地に産する物を豊かに与えて、あなたを栄えさせられるであろう。すなわち主はあなたの先祖たちを喜ばれたように再びあなたを喜んで、あなたを栄えさせられるであろう。

30:10
　これはあなたが、あなたの神、主の声に聞きしたがい、この律法の書にしるされた戒めと定めとを守り、心をつくし、精神をつくしてあなたの神、主に帰するからである。

30:11
　わたしが、きょう、あなたに命じるこの戒めは、むずかしいものではなく、また遠いものでもない。

30:12
　これは天にあるのではないから、『だれがわれわれのために天に上り、それをわれわれのところへ持ってきて、われわれに聞かせ、行わせるであろうか』と言うに及ばない。

30:13
　またこれは海のかなたにあるのではないから、『だれがわれわれのために海を渡って行き、それをわれわれのところへ携えてきて、われわれに聞かせ、行わせるであろうか』と言うに及ばない。

30:14
　この言葉はあなたに、はなはだ近くあってあなたの口にあり、またあなたの心にあるから、あなたはこれを行うことができる。

30:15
　見よ、わたしは、きょう、命とさいわい、および死と災をあなたの前に置いた。

30:16
　すなわちわたしは、きょう、あなたにあなたの神、主を愛し、その道に歩み、その戒めと定めと、おきてとを守ることを命じる。それに従うならば、あなたは生きながらえ、その数は多くなるであろう。またあなたの神、主はあなたが行って取る地であなたを祝福されるであろう。

30:17
　しかし、もしあなたが心をそむけて聞き従わず、誘われて他の神々を拝み、それに仕えるならば、

30:18
　わたしは、きょう、あなたがたに告げる。あなたがたは必ず滅びるであろう。あなたがたはヨルダンを渡り、はいって行って取る地でながく命を保つことができないであろう。

30:19
　わたしは、きょう、天と地を呼んであなたがたに対する証人とする。わたしは命と死および祝福とのろいをあなたの前に置いた。あなたは命を選ばなければならない。そうすればあなたとあなたの子孫は生きながらえることができるであろう。

30:20
　すなわちあなたの神、主を愛して、その声を聞き、主につき従わなければならない。そうすればあなたは命を得、かつ長く命を保つことができ、主が先祖アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブに与えると誓われた地に住むことができるであろう」。

エステル（ギ）(C:12、14-16、23-25)

C章12節

　王妃エステルは死の苦悩に襲われて、主に寄りすがった。

C章14節

　そして、イスラエルの神である主に祈った。「主よ、わたしたちの王よ、／あなたは唯一なるお方、／あなたのほかに助け手を持たない／ただひとりでいるわたしを助けてください。

C章15節

　危険が身近に迫っています。

C章16節

　わたしは生まれた時から、／わが先祖の部族の中で聞かされてきました。主よ、あなたはイスラエルを万民の中から、／我らの先祖をすべての先祖の中から選んで／御自分の永久の遺産とし、／イスラエルに約束したことを実現されたと。

C章23節

　主よ、思い起こしてください。この悩みの時、あなた御自身をお示しください。神々を支配し、すべての主権を握る王よ、／わたしに勇気をお与えください。

　これはあなたの先祖たちの神、主が所有として賜わる地で、あなたがたが世に生きながらえている間、守り行わなければならない定めと、おきてである。

12:2

　あなたがたの追い払う国々の民が、その神々に仕えた所は、高い山にあるものも、丘にあるものも、青木の下にあるものも、ことごとくこわし、

12:3

　その祭壇をこぼち、柱を砕き、アシラ像を火で焼き、また刻んだ神々の像を切り倒して、その名をその所から消し去らなければならない。

12:4

　ただし、あなたがたの神、主にはそのようにしてはならない。

12:5

　あなたがたの神、主がその名を置くために、あなたがたの全部族のうちから選ばれる場所、すなわち主のすまいを尋ね求めて、そこに行き、

12:6

　あなたがたの燔祭と、犠牲と、十分の一と、ささげ物と、誓願の供え物と、自発の供え物および牛、羊のういごをそこに携えて行って、

12:7

　そこであなたがたの神、主の前で食べ、あなたがたも、家族も皆、手を労して獲るすべての物を喜び楽しまなければならない。これはあなたの神、主の恵みによって獲るものだからである。

　そこでは、われわれがきょうここでしているように、めいめいで正しいと思うようにふるまってはならない。

　あなたがたはまだ、あなたがたの神、主から賜わる安息と嗣業の地に、はいっていないのである。

　しかし、あなたがたがヨルダンを渡り、あなたがたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地に住むようになり、さらに主があなたがたの周囲の敵をことごとく除いて、安息を与え、あなたがたが安らかに住むようになる時、

Matthew 7:7-12

7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.

8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

9 Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent?

11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

12 Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

* Deuteronomy (12:1-14)

1 These are the statutes and the ordinances which you shall observe to do in the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess it, all the days that you live on the earth.

2 You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree.

3 You shall break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and burn their Asherah poles with fire. You shall cut down the engraved images of their gods. You shall destroy their name out of that place.

4 You shall not do so to Yahweh your God.

5 But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, you shall seek his habitation, and there you shall come.

6 There you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock.

7 There you shall eat before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.

8 You shall not do after all the things that we do here today, every man whatever is right in his own eyes;

9 for you haven’t yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Yahweh your God gives you.

10 But when you go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you dwell in safety;

11 then it shall happen that to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to Yahweh.

12 You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God, you, and your sons, your daughters, your male servants, your female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

13 Be careful that you don’t offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see;

14 but in the place which Yahweh chooses in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.

ヨナ書(3:1-10)

3:1

　時に主の言葉は再びヨナに臨んで言った、

3:2

　「立って、あの大きな町ニネベに行き、あなたに命じる言葉をこれに伝えよ」。

3:3

　そこでヨナは主の言葉に従い、立って、ニネベに行った。ニネベは非常に大きな町であって、これを行きめぐるには、三日を要するほどであった。

3:4

　ヨナはその町にはいり、初め一日路を行きめぐって呼ばわり、「四十日を経たらニネベは滅びる」と言った。

3:5

　そこでニネベの人々は神を信じ、断食をふれ、大きい者から小さい者まで荒布を着た。

3:6

　このうわさがニネベの王に達すると、彼はその王座から立ち上がり、朝服を脱ぎ、荒布をまとい、灰の中に座した。

3:7

　また王とその大臣の布告をもって、ニネベ中にふれさせて言った、「人も獣も牛も羊もみな、何をも味わってはならない。物を食い、水を飲んではならない。

3:8

　人も獣も荒布をまとい、ひたすら神に呼ばわり、おのおのその悪い道およびその手にある強暴を離れよ。

3:9

　あるいは神はみ心をかえ、その激しい怒りをやめて、われわれを滅ぼされないかもしれない。だれがそれを知るだろう」。

3:10

　神は彼らのなすところ、その悪い道を離れたのを見られ、彼らの上に下そうと言われた災を思いかえして、これをおやめになった。

11:29

　さて群衆が群がり集まったので、イエスは語り出された、「この時代は邪悪な時代である。それはしるしを求めるが、ヨナのしるしのほかには、なんのしるしも与えられないであろう。

　というのは、ニネベの人々に対してヨナがしるしとなったように、人の子もこの時代に対してしるしとなるであろう。

11:31

　南の女王が、今の時代の人々と共にさばきの場に立って、彼らを罪に定めるであろう。なぜなら、彼女はソロモンの知恵を聞くために、地の果からはるばるきたからである。しかし見よ、ソロモンにまさる者がここにいる。

11:32

　ニネベの人々が、今の時代の人々と共にさばきの場に立って、彼らを罪に定めるであろう。なぜなら、ニネベの人々はヨナの宣教によって悔い改めたからである。しかし見よ、ヨナにまさる者がここにいる。

　また、わたしがきょうあなたに命じる主の命令と定めとを守って、さいわいを得ることである。

10:14

　見よ、天と、もろもろの天の天、および地と、地にあるものとはみな、あなたの神、主のものである。

10:15

　そうであるのに、主はただあなたの先祖たちを喜び愛し、その後の子孫であるあなたがたを万民のうちから選ばれた。今日見るとおりである。

Jonah 3:1-10

1 Yahweh’s word came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I give you.”

3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to Yahweh’s word. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.

4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

5 The people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.

6 The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7 He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;

8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to God. Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

9 Who knows whether God will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”

10 God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

Gospel: Luke 11:29-32

29 When the multitudes were gathering together to him, he began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks after a sign. No sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah, the prophet.

30 For even as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will also the Son of Man be to this generation.

31 The Queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, one greater than Solomon is here.

32 The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, one greater than Jonah is here.

15 Only Yahweh had a delight in your fathers to love them, and he chose their offspring*or, seed after them, even you above all peoples, as it is today.

16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiff-necked.

17 For Yahweh your God, he is God of gods, and Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty, and the awesome, who doesn’t respect persons, nor takes reward.

18 He does execute justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the foreigner, in giving him food and clothing.

19 Therefore love the foreigner; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

20 You shall fear Yahweh your God; you shall serve him; and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.

21 He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things, which your eyes have seen.

22 Your fathers went down into Egypt with seventy persons; and now Yahweh your God has made you as the stars of the sky for multitude.

11:1 Therefore you shall love Yahweh your God, and keep his instructions, his statutes, his ordinances, and his commandments, always.

2 Know this day: for I don’t speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm,

3 his signs, and his works, which he did in the middle of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;

4 and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued you, and how Yahweh has destroyed them to this day;

5 and what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place;

6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the middle of all Israel;

7 but your eyes have seen all of Yahweh’s great work which he did.

8 Therefore you shall keep all the commandment which I command you today, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it;

9 and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring,*or, seed a land flowing with milk and honey.

26 Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:

27 the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I command you today;

28 and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you today, to go after other gods, which you have not known.

10 Yahweh delivered to me the two stone tablets written with God’s finger. On them were all the words which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the middle of the fire in the day of the assembly.

11 It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Yahweh gave me the two stone tablets, even the tablets of the covenant.

12 Yahweh said to me, “Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves. They have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten image for themselves!”

13 Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people.

14 Leave me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”

15 So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire. The two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands.

16 I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God. You had made yourselves a molten calf. You had turned aside quickly out of the way which Yahweh had commanded you.

17 I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

18 I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger.

19 For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.

20 Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

21 I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.

25 So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.

26 I prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Lord Yahweh, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

27 Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Don’t look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,

28 lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’

29 Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

　わたしの名により偽り誓って、あなたがたの神の名を汚してはならない。わたしは主である。

　あなたの隣人をしえたげてはならない。また、かすめてはならない。日雇人の賃銀を明くる朝まで、あなたのもとにとどめておいてはならない。

“‘You shall not deceive one another.

12 “‘You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God. I am Yahweh.

13 “‘You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him.
“‘The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

14 “‘You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind; but you shall fear your God. I am Yahweh.

15 “‘You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.

32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

35 for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.

36 I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?

38 When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?

39 When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’

40 “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers‡The word for “brothers” here may be also correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” , you did it to me.’

41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;

42 for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink;

43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

44 “Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’

45 “Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’

46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

11 You shall therefore keep the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you today, to do them.

12 It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Yahweh your God will keep with you the covenant and the loving kindness which he swore to your fathers.

13 He will love you, bless you, multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.

14 You shall be blessed above all peoples. There shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock.

8:1 You shall observe to do all the commandments which I command you today, that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers.

2 You shall remember all the way which Yahweh your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.

3 He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know; that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.

4 Your clothing didn’t grow old on you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.

5 You shall consider in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so Yahweh your God disciplines you.

6 You shall keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

6 The Egyptians mistreated us, afflicted us, and imposed hard labor on us.

11 and Yahweh will guide you continually,
and satisfy your soul in dry places,
and make your bones strong;

11 “You shall not take the name of Yahweh your God in vain: for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

　彼らは言う、『われわれが断食したのに、なぜ、ごらんにならないのか。われわれがおのれを苦しめたのに、なぜ、ごぞんじないのか』と。見よ、あなたがたの断食の日には、おのが楽しみを求め、その働き人をことごとくしえたげる。

　イスラエルよ、いま、わたしがあなたがたに教える定めと、おきてとを聞いて、これを行いなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたは生きることができ、あなたがたの先祖の神、主が賜わる地にはいって、それを自分のものとすることができよう。

4:2

　わたしがあなたがたに命じる言葉に付け加えてはならない。また減らしてはならない。わたしが命じるあなたがたの神、主の命令を守ることのできるためである。

4:3

　あなたがたの目は、主がバアル・ペオルで行われたことを見た。ペオルのバアルに従った人々は、あなたの神、主がことごとく、あなたのうちから滅ぼしつくされたのである。

4:4

　しかし、あなたがたの神、主につき従ったあなたがたは皆、きょう、生きながらえている。

4:5

　わたしはわたしの神、主が命じられたとおりに、定めと、おきてとを、あなたがたに教える。あなたがたがはいって、自分のものとする地において、そのように行うためである。

4:6

　あなたがたは、これを守って行わなければならない。これは、もろもろの民にあなたがたの知恵、また知識を示す事である。彼らは、このもろもろの定めを聞いて、『この大いなる国民は、まことに知恵あり、知識ある民である』と言うであろう。

4:7

　われわれの神、主は、われわれが呼び求める時、つねにわれわれに近くおられる。いずれの大いなる国民に、このように近くおる神があるであろうか。

4:8

　また、いずれの大いなる国民に、きょう、わたしがあなたがたの前に立てるこのすべての律法のような正しい定めと、おきてとがあるであろうか。

4:32

　試みにあなたの前に過ぎ去った日について問え。神が地上に人を造られた日からこのかた、天のこの端から、かの端までに、かつてこのように大いなる事があったであろうか。このようなことを聞いたことがあったであろうか。

4:33

　火の中から語られる神の声をあなたが聞いたように、聞いてなお生きていた民がかつてあったであろうか。

4:34

　あるいはまた、あなたがたの神、主がエジプトにおいて、あなたがたの目の前に、あなたがたのためにもろもろの事をなされたように、試みと、しるしと、不思議と、戦いと、強い手と、伸ばした腕と、大いなる恐るべき事とをもって臨み、一つの国民を他の国民のうちから引き出して、自分の民とされた神が、かつてあったであろうか。

　あなたにこの事を示したのは、主こそ神であって、ほかに神のないことを知らせるためであった。

　あなたを訓練するために、主は天からその声を聞かせ、地上では、またその大いなる火を示された。あなたはその言葉が火の中から出るのを聞いた。

4:37

　主はあなたの先祖たちを愛されたので、その後の子孫を選び、大いなる力をもって、みずからあなたをエジプトから導き出し、

4:38

　あなたよりも大きく、かつ強いもろもろの国民を、あなたの前から追い払い、あなたをその地に導き入れて、これを嗣業としてあなたに与えようとされること、今日見るとおりである。

4:39

　それゆえ、あなたは、きょう知って、心にとめなければならない。上は天、下は地において、主こそ神にいまし、ほかに神のないことを。

4:40

　あなたは、きょう、わたしが命じる主の定めと命令とを守らなければならない。そうすれば、あなたとあなたの後の子孫はさいわいを得、あなたの神、主が永久にあなたに賜わる地において、長く命を保つことができるであろう」。

Isaiah 58:1-9a

1 “Cry aloud, don’t spare.
Lift up your voice like a trumpet.
Declare to my people their disobedience,
and to the house of Jacob their sins.

2 Yet they seek me daily,
and delight to know my ways.
As a nation that did righteousness,
and didn’t forsake the ordinance of their God,
they ask of me righteous judgments.
They delight to draw near to God.

3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ say they, ‘and you don’t see?
Why have we afflicted our soul, and you don’t notice?’
“Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
and oppress all your laborers.

4 Behold, you fast for strife and contention,
and to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You don’t fast today so as to make your voice to be heard on high.

5 Is this the fast that I have chosen?
A day for a man to humble his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a reed,
and to spread sackcloth and ashes under himself?
Will you call this a fast,
and an acceptable day to Yahweh?

8 Then your light will break out as the morning,

then your righteousness shall go before you;
and Yahweh’s glory will be your rear guard.

7 For what great nation is there, that has a god so near to them, as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him?

8 What great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you today?

32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?

33 Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the middle of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

34 Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from among another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him.

36 Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you. On earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the middle of the fire.

37 Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their offspring*or, seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

38 to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.

39 Know therefore today, and take it to heart, that Yahweh himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath. There is no one else.

40 You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

　しかし、もしあなたが心をそむけて聞き従わず、誘われて他の神々を拝み、それに仕えるならば、

Deuteronomy 30:15-20

15 Behold, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and evil.

16 For I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.

17 But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;

18 I denounce to you today, that you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your descendants;

20 to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

16 I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.

17 You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

ヨエル書(2:12-18)

2:12

　主は言われる、「今からでも、あなたがたは心をつくし、断食と嘆きと、悲しみとをもってわたしに帰れ。

2:13

　あなたがたは衣服ではなく、心を裂け」。あなたがたの神、主に帰れ。主は恵みあり、あわれみあり、怒ることがおそく、いつくしみが豊かで、災を思いかえされるからである。

2:14

　神があるいは立ち返り、思いかえして祝福をその後に残し、素祭と灌祭とをあなたがたの神、主にささげさせられる事はないとだれが知るだろうか。

2:15

　シオンでラッパを吹きならせ。断食を聖別し、聖会を召集し、

　民を集め、会衆を聖別し、老人たちを集め、幼な子、乳のみ子を集め、花婿をその家から呼びだし、花嫁をそのへやから呼びだせ。

　自分の義を、見られるために人の前で行わないように、注意しなさい。もし、そうしないと、天にいますあなたがたの父から報いを受けることがないであろう。

　彼らは日々わたしを尋ね求め、義を行い、神のおきてを捨てない国民のように、わが道を知ることを喜ぶ。彼らは正しいさばきをわたしに求め、神に近づくことを喜ぶ。

　彼らは言う、『われわれが断食したのに、なぜ、ごらんにならないのか。われわれがおのれを苦しめたのに、なぜ、ごぞんじないのか』と。見よ、あなたがたの断食の日には、おのが楽しみを求め、その働き人をことごとくしえたげる。

58:4

　見よ、あなたがたの断食するのは、ただ争いと、いさかいのため、また悪のこぶしをもって人を打つためだ。きょう、あなたがたのなす断食は、その声を上に聞えさせるものではない。

58:5

　このようなものは、わたしの選ぶ断食であろうか。人がおのれを苦しめる日であろうか。そのこうべを葦のように伏せ、荒布と灰とをその下に敷くことであろうか。あなたは、これを断食ととなえ、主に受けいれられる日と、となえるであろうか。

58:6

　わたしが選ぶところの断食は、悪のなわをほどき、くびきのひもを解き、しえたげられる者を放ち去らせ、すべてのくびきを折るなどの事ではないか。

58:7

　また飢えた者に、あなたのパンを分け与え、さすらえる貧しい者を、あなたの家に入れ、裸の者を見て、これを着せ、自分の骨肉に身を隠さないなどの事ではないか。

58:8

　そうすれば、あなたの光が暁のようにあらわれ出て、あなたは、すみやかにいやされ、あなたの義はあなたの前に行き、主の栄光はあなたのしんがりとなる。

58:9

　また、あなたが呼ぶとき、主は答えられ、あなたが叫ぶとき、『わたしはここにおる』と言われる。もし、あなたの中からくびきを除き、指をさすこと、悪い事を語ることを除き、

58:10

　飢えた者にあなたのパンを施し、苦しむ者の願いを満ち足らせるならば、あなたの光は暗きに輝き、あなたのやみは真昼のようになる。

58:11

　主は常にあなたを導き、良き物をもってあなたの願いを満ち足らせ、あなたの骨を強くされる。あなたは潤った園のように、水の絶えない泉のようになる。

58:12

　あなたの子らは久しく荒れすたれたる所を興し、あなたは代々やぶれた基を立て、人はあなたを『破れを繕う者』と呼び、『市街を繕って住むべき所となす者』と呼ぶようになる。
