39 Mary arose in those days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah,

40 and entered into the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth.

41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42 She called out with a loud voice, and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

43 Why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!

45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord!”

46 Mary said,
“My soul magnifies the Lord.

47 My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,

48 for he has looked at the humble state of his servant.
For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.

49 For he who is mighty has done great things for me.
Holy is his name.

50 His mercy is for generations of generations on those who fear him.

51 He has shown strength with his arm.
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

14 Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.

15 Yahweh has taken away your judgments. He has thrown out your enemy. The King of Israel, Yahweh, is among you. You will not be afraid of evil any more.

　ところが、ナザレのイエスだと聞いて、彼は「ダビデの子イエスよ、わたしをあわれんでください」と叫び出した。

　多くの人々は彼をしかって黙らせようとしたが、彼はますます激しく叫びつづけた、「ダビデの子イエスよ、わたしをあわれんでください」。

　イエスは立ちどまって「彼を呼べ」と命じられた。そこで、人々はその盲人を呼んで言った、「喜べ、立て、おまえを呼んでおられる」。

　一週の初めの日ごとに、あなたがたはそれぞれ、いくらでも収入に応じて手もとにたくわえておき、わたしが着いた時になって初めて集めることのないようにしなさい。

Gospel: Mark 10:46-52

46 They came to Jericho. As he went out from Jericho, with his disciples and a great multitude, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the road.

47 When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”

48 Many rebuked him, that he should be quiet, but he cried out much more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”

49 Jesus stood still, and said, “Call him.”
They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!”

50 He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.

51 Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
The blind man said to him, “Rabboni,* that I may see again.”

52 Jesus said to him, “Go your way. Your faith has made you well.” Immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus on the way.


*10:51: Rabboni is a transliteration of the Hebrew word for “great teacher.”

15 I will make mention now of the works of the Lord,
And will declare the things that I have seen:
In the words of the Lord are his works.

16 The sun that gives light looks upon all things;
And the work of the Lord is full of his glory.

17 The Lord has not given power to the saints to declare all his marvelous works;
Which the Almighty Lord firmly settled,
That whatever is might be established in his glory.

18 He searcheth out the deep, and the heart,
And he has understanding of their cunning devices:
For the Most High knows all knowledge,
And he looks into the § signs of the world,

19 Declaring the things that are past, and the things that shall be,
And revealing the traces of hidden things.

20 No thought escapes him;

13 Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong!

14 Let all that you do be done in love.

15 Now I beg you, brothers (you know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have set themselves to serve the saints),

16 that you also be in subjection to such, and to everyone who helps in the work and labors.

17 I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus; for that which was lacking on your part, they supplied.

18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge those who are like that.

19 The assemblies of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you much in the Lord, together with the assembly that is in their house.

20 All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.

21 This greeting is by me, Paul, with my own hand.

22 If any man doesn’t love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed. * Come, Lord!†

　さて、一同はエルサレムへ上る途上にあったが、イエスが先頭に立って行かれたので、彼らは驚き怪しみ、従う者たちは恐れた。するとイエスはまた十二弟子を呼び寄せて、自分の身に起ろうとすることについて語りはじめられた、

10:33
　「見よ、わたしたちはエルサレムへ上って行くが、人の子は祭司長、律法学者たちの手に引きわたされる。そして彼らは死刑を宣告した上、彼を異邦人に引きわたすであろう。

10:34
　また彼をあざけり、つばきをかけ、むち打ち、ついに殺してしまう。そして彼は三日の後によみがえるであろう」。

　さて、ゼベダイの子のヤコブとヨハネとがイエスのもとにきて言った、「先生、わたしたちがお頼みすることは、なんでもかなえてくださるようにお願いします」。

　おろかな人である。あなたのまくものは、死ななければ、生かされないではないか。

　また、あなたのまくのは、やがて成るべきからだをまくのではない。麦であっても、ほかの種であっても、ただの種粒にすぎない。

　ところが、神はみこころのままに、これにからだを与え、その一つ一つの種にそれぞれのからだをお与えになる。

　すべての肉が、同じ肉なのではない。人の肉があり、獣の肉があり、鳥の肉があり、魚の肉がある。

Gospel: Mark 10:32-45

32 They were on the way, going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going in front of them, and they were amazed; and those who followed were afraid. He again took the twelve, and began to tell them the things that were going to happen to him.

33 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death, and will deliver him to the Gentiles.

34 They will mock him, spit on him, scourge him, and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”

35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came near to him, saying, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we will ask.”

36 He said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”

37 They said to him, “Grant to us that we may sit, one at your right hand, and one at your left hand, in your glory.”

38 But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

39 They said to him, “We are able.”
Jesus said to them, “You shall indeed drink the cup that I drink, and you shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;

40 but to sit at my right hand and at my left hand is not mine to give, but for whom it has been prepared.”

41 When the ten heard it, they began to be indignant towards James and John.

42 Jesus summoned them, and said to them, “You know that they who are recognized as rulers over the nations lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

43 But it shall not be so among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant.

44 Whoever of you wants to become first among you, shall be bondservant of all.

45 For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

49 As we have borne the image of those made of dust, let’s* also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 Now I say this, brothers,† that flesh and blood can’t inherit God’s Kingdom; neither does the perishable inherit imperishable.

51 Behold,‡ I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed,

52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed.

53 For this perishable body must become imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”☆

55 “Death, where is your sting?
Hades,§ where is your victory?”☆

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

29 Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News,

30 but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.

31 But many who are first will be last; and the last first.”

Sirach 35:1-10

1 He that keeps the law multiplies offerings;
He that takes heed to the commandments sacrifices a peace offering.

2 He that requites a good turn offers fine flour;

And to depart from unrighteousness is a propitiation.

32 If I fought with animals at Ephesus for human purposes, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, then “let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”☆Isaiah 22:13

33 Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”

34 Wake up righteously, and don’t sin, for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.

　イエスは言われた、「なぜわたしをよき者と言うのか。神ひとりのほかによい者はいない。

　いましめはあなたの知っているとおりである。『殺すな、姦淫するな、盗むな、偽証を立てるな。欺き取るな。父と母とを敬え』」。

　すると、彼は言った、「先生、それらの事はみな、小さい時から守っております」。

　イエスは彼に目をとめ、いつくしんで言われた、「あなたに足りないことが一つある。帰って、持っているものをみな売り払って、貧しい人々に施しなさい。そうすれば、天に宝を持つようになろう。そして、わたしに従ってきなさい」。

　もしわたしたちが、この世の生活でキリストにあって単なる望みをいだいているだけだとすれば、わたしたちは、すべての人の中で最もあわれむべき存在となる。

19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not give false testimony,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and mother.’”?

20 He said to him, “Teacher, I have observed all these things from my youth.”


21 Jesus looking at him loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack. Go, sell whatever you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, taking up the cross.”


22 But his face fell at that saying, and he went away sorrowful, for he was one who had great possessions.

23 Jesus looked around, and said to his disciples, “How difficult it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!”

24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answered again, “Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!

25 It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.”

26 They were exceedingly astonished, saying to him, “Then who can be saved?”

27 Jesus, looking at them, said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God.”

17 If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins.

18 Then they also who are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.

　わたしがあなたがたの所に行った時には、弱くかつ恐れ、ひどく不安であった。

　それを見てイエスは憤り、彼らに言われた、「幼な子らをわたしの所に来るままにしておきなさい。止めてはならない。神の国はこのような者の国である。

　異言を語る者は自分だけの徳を高めるが、預言をする者は教会の徳を高める。

　わたしは実際、あなたがたがひとり残らず異言を語ることを望むが、特に預言をしてもらいたい。教会の徳を高めるように異言を解かない限り、異言を語る者よりも、預言をする者の方がまさっている。

　だから、兄弟たちよ。たといわたしがあなたがたの所に行って異言を語るとしても、啓示か知識か預言か教かを語らなければ、あなたがたに、なんの役に立つだろうか。

　また、笛や立琴のような楽器でも、もしその音に変化がなければ、何を吹いているのか、弾いているのか、どうして知ることができようか。

　また、もしラッパがはっきりした音を出さないなら、だれが戦闘の準備をするだろうか。

　それと同様に、もしあなたがたが異言ではっきりしない言葉を語れば、どうしてその語ることがわかるだろうか。それでは、空にむかって語っていることになる。

　世には多種多様の言葉があるだろうが、意味のないものは一つもない。

　もしその言葉の意味がわからないなら、語っている人にとっては、わたしは異国人であり、語っている人も、わたしにとっては異国人である。

　だから、あなたがたも、霊の賜物を熱心に求めている以上は、教会の徳を高めるために、それを豊かにいただくように励むがよい。

　このようなわけであるから、異言を語る者は、自分でそれを解くことができるように祈りなさい。

　もしわたしが異言をもって祈るなら、わたしの霊は祈るが、知性は実を結ばないからである。

　すると、どうしたらよいのか。わたしは霊で祈ると共に、知性でも祈ろう。霊でさんびを歌うと共に、知性でも歌おう。

　そうでないと、もしあなたが霊で祝福の言葉を唱えても、初心者の席にいる者は、あなたの感謝に対して、どうしてアァメンと言えようか。あなたが何を言っているのか、彼には通じない。

　感謝するのは結構だが、それで、ほかの人の徳を高めることにはならない。

　わたしは、あなたがたのうちのだれよりも多く異言が語れることを、神に感謝する。

14:19
　しかし教会では、一万の言葉を異言で語るよりも、ほかの人たちをも教えるために、むしろ五つの言葉を知性によって語る方が願わしい。

13 They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them.

15 Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

8 For if the trumpet gave an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for war?

9 So also you, unless you uttered by the tongue words easy to understand, how would it be known what is spoken? For you would be speaking into the air.

10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of sounds in the world, and none of them is without meaning.

11 If then I don’t know the meaning of the sound, I would be to him who speaks a foreigner, and he who speaks would be a foreigner to me.

12 So also you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek that you may abound to the building up of the assembly.

13 Therefore let him who speaks in another language pray that he may interpret.

14 For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

16 Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how will he who fills the place of the unlearned say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, seeing he doesn’t know what you say?

17 For you most certainly give thanks well, but the other person is not built up.

18 I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all.

19 However in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.

3 He answered, “What did Moses command you?”

4 They said, “Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her.”

　からだが一つであっても肢体は多くあり、また、からだのすべての肢体が多くあっても、からだは一つであるように、キリストの場合も同様である。

　なぜなら、わたしたちは皆、ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人も、奴隷も自由人も、一つの御霊によって、一つのからだとなるようにバプテスマを受け、そして皆一つの御霊を飲んだからである。

42 Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he were thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck.

43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having your two hands to go into Gehenna, *or, Hell into the unquenchable fire,

16 If the ear would say, “Because I’m not the eye, I’m not part of the body,” it’s not therefore not part of the body.

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be?

18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body, just as he desired.

19 If they were all one member, where would the body be?

20 But now they are many members, but one body.

21 The eye can’t tell the hand, “I have no need for you,” or again the head to the feet, “I have no need for you.”

22 No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary.

23 Those parts of the body which we think to be less honorable, on those we bestow more abundant honor; and our unpresentable parts have more abundant propriety;

24 whereas our presentable parts have no such need. But God composed the body together, giving more abundant honor to the inferior part,

25 that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another.

26 When one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. Or when one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

28 God has set some in the assembly: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of languages.

29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all miracle workers?

30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with various languages? Do all interpret?

31a But earnestly desire the best gifts.

32 But they didn’t understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33 He came to Capernaum, and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing among yourselves on the way?”

34 But they were silent, for they had disputed one with another on the way about who was the greatest.

35 He sat down, and called the twelve; and he said to them, “If any man wants to be first, he shall be last of all, and servant of all.”

36 He took a little child, and set him in the middle of them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them,

37 “Whoever receives one such little child in my name, receives me, and whoever receives me, doesn’t receive me, but him who sent me.”

1 My son, if you come to serve the Lord,
Prepare your soul for temptation.

2 Set your heart aright, and constantly endure,
And make not haste in time of calamity.

And be longsuffering * Gr. in the changes of your humiliation. when you passest into humiliation.

5 For gold is tried in the fire,
And acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.

6 Put your trust in him, and he will help you:

18 For first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it.

20 When therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not the Lord’s supper that you eat.

21 For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken.

22 What, don’t you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise God’s assembly, and put them to shame who don’t have? What shall I tell you? Shall I praise you? In this I don’t praise you.

23 For I received from the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread.

24 When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me.”

25 In the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me.”

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord’s cup in a way unworthy of the Lord will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup.

29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy way eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he doesn’t discern the Lord’s body.

30 For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep.

31 For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn’t be judged.

32 But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

33 Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.

34 But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest your coming together be for judgment. The rest I will set in order whenever I come.

　さて、彼らがほかの弟子たちの所にきて見ると、大ぜいの群衆が弟子たちを取り囲み、そして律法学者たちが彼らと論じ合っていた。

9:15
　群衆はみな、すぐイエスを見つけて、非常に驚き、駆け寄ってきて、あいさつをした。

9:16
　イエスが彼らに、「あなたがたは彼らと何を論じているのか」と尋ねられると、

9:17
　群衆のひとりが答えた、「先生、おしの霊につかれているわたしのむすこを、こちらに連れて参りました。

9:18
　霊がこのむすこにとりつきますと、どこででも彼を引き倒し、それから彼はあわを吹き、歯をくいしばり、からだをこわばらせてしまいます。それでお弟子たちに、この霊を追い出してくださるように願いましたが、できませんでした」。

9:19
　イエスは答えて言われた、「ああ、なんという不信仰な時代であろう。いつまで、わたしはあなたがたと一緒におられようか。いつまで、あなたがたに我慢ができようか。その子をわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。

　そこで人々は、その子をみもとに連れてきた。霊がイエスを見るや否や、その子をひきつけさせたので、子は地に倒れ、あわを吹きながらころげまわった。

Gospel: Mark 9:14-29

14 Coming to the disciples, he saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning them.

15 Immediately all the multitude, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and running to him greeted him.

16 He asked the scribes, “What are you asking them?”

17 One of the multitude answered, “Teacher, I brought to you my son, who has a mute spirit;

18 and wherever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth, and wastes away. I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they weren’t able.”

19 He answered him, “Unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.”

20 They brought him to him, and when he saw him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground, wallowing and foaming at the mouth.

21 He asked his father, “How long has it been since this has come to him?”
He said, “From childhood.

22 Often it has cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us, and help us.”

23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”

24 Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”

25 When Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again!”

26 Having cried out, and convulsed greatly, it came out of him. The boy became like one dead; so much that most of them said, “He is dead.”

27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and raised him up; and he arose.

28 When he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we cast it out?”

29 He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing, except by prayer and fasting.”

2 Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you.

3 But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.

5 But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved.

6 For if a woman is not covered, let her hair also be cut off. But if it is shameful for a woman to be have her hair cut off or shaved, let her be covered.

7 For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man.

8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man;

9 for man wasn’t created for the woman, but woman for the man.

10 For this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels.

14 Doesn’t even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?

15 But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering.

16 But if any man seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither do God’s assemblies.

　「もしだれでもわたしを愛するならば、わたしの言葉を守るであろう。そして、わたしの父はその人を愛し、また、わたしたちはその人のところに行って、その人と一緒に住むであろう。

　なぜなら、肉に従う者は肉のことを思い、霊に従う者は霊のことを思うからである。

　肉の思いは死であるが、霊の思いは、いのちと平安とである。

　なぜなら、肉の思いは神に敵するからである。すなわち、それは神の律法に従わず、否、従い得ないのである。

　また、肉にある者は、神を喜ばせることができない。

　それだけではなく、御霊の最初の実を持っているわたしたち自身も、心の内でうめきながら、子たる身分を授けられること、すなわち、からだのあがなわれることを待ち望んでいる。

　わたしたちは、この望みによって救われているのである。しかし、目に見える望みは望みではない。なぜなら、現に見ている事を、どうして、なお望む人があろうか。

8:25
　もし、わたしたちが見ないことを望むなら、わたしたちは忍耐して、それを待ち望むのである。

8:26
　御霊もまた同じように、弱いわたしたちを助けて下さる。なぜなら、わたしたちはどう祈ったらよいかわからないが、御霊みずから、言葉にあらわせない切なるうめきをもって、わたしたちのためにとりなして下さるからである。

　そして、人の心を探り知るかたは、御霊の思うところがなんであるかを知っておられる。なぜなら、御霊は、聖徒のために、神の御旨にかなうとりなしをして下さるからである。

1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.

4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.

6 When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.

7 They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans?

8 How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?

9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,

10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

Romans 8:8-17

8 Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.

15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba!†Abba is an Aramaic word for “Father” or “Daddy”, which can be used affectionately and respectfully in prayer to our Father in heaven. Father!”

16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God;

17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.

21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.

23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.

24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees?

25 But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.

　ペテロはふり返ると、イエスの愛しておられた弟子がついて来るのを見た。この弟子は、あの夕食のときイエスの胸近くに寄りかかって、「主よ、あなたを裏切る者は、だれなのですか」と尋ねた人である。

21:21
　ペテロはこの弟子を見て、イエスに言った、「主よ、この人はどうなのですか」。

21:22
　イエスは彼に言われた、「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか。あなたは、わたしに従ってきなさい」。

21:23
　こういうわけで、この弟子は死ぬことがないといううわさが、兄弟たちの間にひろまった。しかし、イエスは彼が死ぬことはないと言われたのではなく、ただ「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか」と言われただけである。

　これらの事についてあかしをし、またこれらの事を書いたのは、この弟子である。そして彼のあかしが真実であることを、わたしたちは知っている。

　ユダヤ人たちがこれに反対したため、わたしはやむを得ず、カイザルに上訴するに至ったのである。しかしわたしは、わが同胞を訴えようなどとしているのではない。

　こういうわけで、あなたがたに会って語り合いたいと願っていた。事実、わたしは、イスラエルのいだいている希望のゆえに、この鎖につながれているのである」。

　パウロは、自分の借りた家に満二年のあいだ住んで、たずねて来る人々をみな迎え入れ、

　兄弟たちがきて、あなたが真理に生きていることを、あかししてくれたので、ひじょうに喜んでいる。事実、あなたは真理のうちを歩いているのである。

　わたしの子供たちが真理のうちを歩いていることを聞く以上に、大きい喜びはない。

　愛する者よ。あなたが、兄弟たち、しかも旅先にある者につくしていることは、みな真実なわざである。

　デメテリオについては、あらゆる人も、また真理そのものも、証明している。わたしたちも証明している。そして、あなたが知っているとおり、わたしたちの証明は真実である。

Gospel: John 21:20-25

20 Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

21 Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”

22 Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

23 This saying therefore went out among the brothers,†The word for “brothers” here may be also correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” that this disciple wouldn’t die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to him that he wouldn’t die, but, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?”

24 This is the disciple who testifies about these things, and wrote these things. We know that his witness is true.

25 There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they would all be written, I suppose that even the world itself wouldn’t have room for the books that would be written.

Acts 28:16-20, 30-31

16 When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.

17 After three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

18 who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.

19 But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.

20 For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”

30 Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who were coming to him,

31 preaching God’s Kingdom, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.

8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

9 I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.

10 Therefore if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.

11 Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.

12 Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.

13 I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;

14 but I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.

21:15
　彼らが食事をすませると、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、あなたはこの人たちが愛する以上に、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に「わたしの小羊を養いなさい」と言われた。

21:16
　またもう一度彼に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。彼はイエスに言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」。

21:17
　イエスは三度目に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは「わたしを愛するか」とイエスが三度も言われたので、心をいためてイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたはすべてをご存じです。わたしがあなたを愛していることは、おわかりになっています」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を養いなさい。

　よくよくあなたに言っておく。あなたが若かった時には、自分で帯をしめて、思いのままに歩きまわっていた。しかし年をとってからは、自分の手をのばすことになろう。そして、ほかの人があなたに帯を結びつけ、行きたくない所へ連れて行くであろう」。

　これは、ペテロがどんな死に方で、神の栄光をあらわすかを示すために、お話しになったのである。こう話してから、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。

　数日たった後、アグリッパ王とベルニケとが、フェストに敬意を表するため、カイザリヤにきた。

　ふたりは、そこに何日間も滞在していたので、フェストは、パウロのことを王に話して言った、「ここに、ペリクスが囚人として残して行ったひとりの男がいる。

　わたしがエルサレムに行った時、この男のことを、祭司長たちやユダヤ人の長老たちが、わたしに報告し、彼を罪に定めるようにと要求した。

25:16
　そこでわたしは、彼らに答えた、『訴えられた者が、訴えた者の前に立って、告訴に対し弁明する機会を与えられない前に、その人を見放してしまうのは、ローマ人の慣例にはないことである』。

25:17
　それで、彼らがここに集まってきた時、わたしは時をうつさず、次の日に裁判の席について、その男を引き出させた。

　訴えた者たちは立ち上がったが、わたしが推測していたような悪事は、彼について何一つ申し立てはしなかった。

　長老のわたしから、真実に愛している選ばれた婦人とその子たちへ。あなたがたを愛しているのは、わたしだけではなく、真理を知っている者はみなそうである。

　それは、わたしたちのうちにあり、また永遠に共にあるべき真理によるのである。

　父なる神および父の御子イエス・キリストから、恵みとあわれみと平安とが、真理と愛のうちにあって、わたしたちと共にあるように。

1:4
　あなたの子供たちのうちで、わたしたちが父から受けた戒めどおりに、真理のうちを歩いている者があるのを見て、わたしは非常に喜んでいる。

1:5
　婦人よ。ここにお願いしたいことがある。それは、新しい戒めを書くわけではなく、初めから持っていた戒めなのであるが、わたしたちは、みんな互に愛し合おうではないか。

1:6
　父の戒めどおりに歩くことが、すなわち、愛であり、あなたがたが初めから聞いてきたとおりに愛のうちを歩くことが、すなわち、戒めなのである。

1:7
　なぜなら、イエス・キリストが肉体をとってこられたことを告白しないで人を惑わす者が、多く世にはいってきたからである。そういう者は、惑わす者であり、反キリストである。

1:8
　よく注意して、わたしたちの働いて得た成果を失うことがなく、豊かな報いを受けられるようにしなさい。

1:9
　すべてキリストの教をとおり過ごして、それにとどまらない者は、神を持っていないのである。その教にとどまっている者は、父を持ち、また御子をも持つ。

1:10
　この教を持たずにあなたがたのところに来る者があれば、その人を家に入れることも、あいさつすることもしてはいけない。

1:11
　そのような人にあいさつする者は、その悪い行いにあずかることになるからである。

1:12
　あなたがたに書きおくることはたくさんあるが、紙と墨とで書くことはすまい。むしろ、あなたがたのところに行き、直接はなし合って、共に喜びに満ちあふれたいものである。

1:13
　選ばれたあなたの姉妹の子供たちが、あなたによろしく。

Gospel: John 21:15-19

15 So when they had eaten their breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.”
He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you have affection for me?”
Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, “Do you have affection for me?” He said to him, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I have affection for you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.

18 Most certainly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

19 Now he said this, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. When he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Acts of the Apostles 25:13b-21

13 Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and greeted Festus.

14 As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;

15 about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.

16 To whom I answered that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before the accused has met the accusers face to face, and has had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.

17 When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought.

18 Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no charge of such things as I supposed;

19 but had certain questions against him about their own religion, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

20 Being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.

21 But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

1 The elder, to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all those who know the truth;

2 for the truth’s sake, which remains in us, and it will be with us forever:

3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.
5 Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.

8 Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.

9 Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ, doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching, the same has both the Father and the Son.

10 If anyone comes to you, and doesn’t bring this teaching, don’t receive him into your house, and don’t welcome him,

11 for he who welcomes him participates in his evil deeds.

12 Having many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you, and to speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.

　わたしは彼らのためばかりではなく、彼らの言葉を聞いてわたしを信じている人々のためにも、お願いいたします。

17:21
　父よ、それは、あなたがわたしのうちにおられ、わたしがあなたのうちにいるように、みんなの者が一つとなるためであります。すなわち、彼らをもわたしたちのうちにおらせるためであり、それによって、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを、世が信じるようになるためであります。

17:22
　わたしは、あなたからいただいた栄光を彼らにも与えました。それは、わたしたちが一つであるように、彼らも一つになるためであります。

17:23
　わたしが彼らにおり、あなたがわたしにいますのは、彼らが完全に一つとなるためであり、また、あなたがわたしをつかわし、わたしを愛されたように、彼らをお愛しになったことを、世が知るためであります。

17:24
　父よ、あなたがわたしに賜わった人々が、わたしのいる所に一緒にいるようにして下さい。天地が造られる前からわたしを愛して下さって、わたしに賜わった栄光を、彼らに見させて下さい。

　正しい父よ、この世はあなたを知っていません。しかし、わたしはあなたを知り、また彼らも、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを知っています。

　翌日、彼は、ユダヤ人がなぜパウロを訴え出たのか、その真相を知ろうと思って彼を解いてやり、同時に祭司長たちと全議会とを召集させ、そこに彼を引き出して、彼らの前に立たせた。

　パウロは、議員の一部がサドカイ人であり、一部はパリサイ人であるのを見て、議会の中で声を高めて言った、「兄弟たちよ、わたしはパリサイ人であり、パリサイ人の子である。わたしは、死人の復活の望みをいだいていることで、裁判を受けているのである」。

23:7
　彼がこう言ったところ、パリサイ人とサドカイ人との間に争論が生じ、会衆が相分れた。

　元来、サドカイ人は、復活とか天使とか霊とかは、いっさい存在しないと言い、パリサイ人は、それらは、みな存在すると主張している。

23:9
　そこで、大騒ぎとなった。パリサイ派のある律法学者たちが立って、強く主張して言った、「われわれは、この人には何も悪いことがないと思う。あるいは、霊か天使かが、彼に告げたのかも知れない」。

23:10
　こうして、争論が激しくなったので、千卒長は、パウロが彼らに引き裂かれるのを気づかって、兵卒どもに、降りて行ってパウロを彼らの中から力づくで引き出し、兵営に連れて来るように、命じた。

23:11
　その夜、主がパウロに臨んで言われた、「しっかりせよ。あなたは、エルサレムでわたしのことをあかししたように、ローマでもあかしをしなくてはならない」。

　これらのことをあなたがたに書きおくったのは、神の子の御名を信じるあなたがたに、永遠のいのちを持っていることを、悟らせるためである。

　わたしたちが神に対していだいている確信は、こうである。すなわち、わたしたちが何事でも神の御旨に従って願い求めるなら、神はそれを聞きいれて下さるということである。

5:15
　そして、わたしたちが願い求めることは、なんでも聞きいれて下さるとわかれば、神に願い求めたことはすでにかなえられたことを、知るのである。

5:16
　もしだれかが死に至ることのない罪を犯している兄弟を見たら、神に願い求めなさい。そうすれば神は、死に至ることのない罪を犯している人々には、いのちを賜わるであろう。死に至る罪がある。これについては、願い求めよ、とは言わない。

5:17
　不義はすべて、罪である。しかし、死に至ることのない罪もある。

5:18
　すべて神から生れた者は罪を犯さないことを、わたしたちは知っている。神から生れたかたが彼を守っていて下さるので、悪しき者が手を触れるようなことはない。

5:19
　また、わたしたちは神から出た者であり、全世界は悪しき者の配下にあることを、知っている。

5:20
　さらに、神の子がきて、真実なかたを知る知力をわたしたちに授けて下さったことも、知っている。そして、わたしたちは、真実なかたにおり、御子イエス・キリストにおるのである。このかたは真実な神であり、永遠のいのちである。

5:21
　子たちよ。気をつけて、偶像を避けなさい。
