マルコによる福音 1:1-8
神の子イエス・キリストの福音のはじめ。
預言者イザヤの書に、
「見よ、わたしは使をあなたの先につかわし、
あなたの道を整えさせるであろう。
荒野で呼ばわる者の声がする、
『主の道を備えよ、
その道筋をまっすぐにせよ』」
と書いてあるように、
バプテスマのヨハネが荒野に現れて、罪のゆるしを得させる悔改めのバプテスマを宣べ伝えていた。
そこで、ユダヤ全土とエルサレムの全住民とが、彼のもとにぞくぞくと出て行って、自分の罪を告白し、ヨルダン川でヨハネからバプテスマを受けた。
このヨハネは、らくだの毛ごろもを身にまとい、腰に皮の帯をしめ、いなごと野蜜とを食物としていた。

あなたがたの神は言われる、
「慰めよ、わが民を慰めよ、
40:2
ねんごろにエルサレムに語り、これに呼ばわれ、
その服役の期は終り、
そのとがはすでにゆるされ、
そのもろもろの罪のために二倍の刑罰を
主の手から受けた」。
40:3
呼ばわる者の声がする、
「荒野に主の道を備え、
さばくに、われわれの神のために、
大路をまっすぐにせよ。
40:4
もろもろの谷は高くせられ、
もろもろの山と丘とは低くせられ、
高底のある地は平らになり、
険しい所は平地となる。
40:5
こうして主の栄光があらわれ、
人は皆ともにこれを見る。
これは主の口が語られたのである」。
40:6
声が聞える、「呼ばわれ」。
わたしは言った、「なんと呼ばわりましょうか」。
「人はみな草だ。
その麗しさは、すべて野の花のようだ。
40:7
主の息がその上に吹けば、
草は枯れ、花はしぼむ。
たしかに人は草だ。
40:8
草は枯れ、花はしぼむ。
しかし、われわれの神の言葉は
とこしえに変ることはない」。
40:9
よきおとずれをシオンに伝える者よ、
高い山にのぼれ。
よきおとずれをエルサレムに伝える者よ、
強く声をあげよ、
声をあげて恐れるな。
ユダのもろもろの町に言え、
「あなたがたの神を見よ」と。

見よ、主なる神は大能をもってこられ、
その腕は世を治める。
見よ、その報いは主と共にあり、
そのはたらきの報いは、そのみ前にある。

主は牧者のようにその群れを養い、
そのかいなに小羊をいだき、
そのふところに入れて携えゆき、
乳を飲ませているものをやさしく導かれる。

愛する者たちよ。この一事を忘れてはならない。主にあっては、一日は千年のようであり、千年は一日のようである。

ある人々がおそいと思っているように、主は約束の実行をおそくしておられるのではない。ただ、ひとりも滅びることがなく、すべての者が悔改めに至ることを望み、あなたがたに対してながく忍耐しておられるのである。

しかし、主の日は盗人のように襲って来る。その日には、天は大音響をたてて消え去り、天体は焼けてくずれ、地とその上に造り出されたものも、みな焼きつくされるであろう。

このように、これらはみなくずれ落ちていくものであるから、神の日の到来を熱心に待ち望んでいるあなたがたは、

極力、きよく信心深い行いをしていなければならない。その日には、天は燃えくずれ、天体は焼けうせてしまう。
3:13
しかし、わたしたちは、神の約束に従って、義の住む新しい天と新しい地とを待ち望んでいる。
3:14
愛する者たちよ。それだから、この日を待っているあなたがたは、しみもなくきずもなく、安らかな心で、神のみまえに出られるように励みなさい。

一つの貯水池を二つの城壁の間に造って古池の水をひいた。しかしあなたがたはこの事をなされた者を仰ぎ望まず、この事を昔から計画された者を顧みなかった。

その日、万軍の神、主は

Gospel: Mark 1:1-8
1 The beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in the prophets,
“Behold,* I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare your way before you:☆
3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness,
‘Make ready the way of the Lord!
Make his paths straight!’”☆
4 John came baptising† in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins.
5 All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptised by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.
6 John was clothed with camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.
7 He preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.
8 I baptised you in‡ water, but he will baptise you in the Holy Spirit.”
*1:2: “Behold”, from “?δο?”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
1 “Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God.
2 “Speak comfortably to Jerusalem; and call out to her that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.”
3 The voice of one who calls out,
“Prepare the way of the LORD in the wilderness!
Make a level highway in the desert for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted,
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The uneven shall be made level,
and the rough places a plain.
5 the LORD’s glory shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together;
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.”
6 The voice of one saying, “Cry!”
One said, “What shall I cry?”
“All flesh is like grass,
and all its glory is like the flower of the field.
7 The grass withers,
the flower fades,
because the LORD’s breath blows on it.
Surely the people are like grass.
8 The grass withers,
the flower fades;
but the word of our God stands forever.”
9 You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength.
Lift it up. Don’t be afraid.
Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold, your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come as a mighty one,
and his arm will rule for him.
Behold, his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
11 He will feed his flock like a shepherd.
He will gather the lambs in his arm,
and carry them in his bosom.
He will gently lead those who have their young.

2 Peter 3:8-14
8 But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burnt up.
11 Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burnt up.
11 Therefore since all these things will be destroyed like this, what kind of people ought you to be in holy living and godliness,
12 looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, which will cause the burning heavens to be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
13 But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
14 Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without defect and blameless in his sight.
