☆今日の聖書物語 *
マタイによる福音 17:10-13
弟子たちはイエスにお尋ねして言った、「いったい、律法学者たちは、なぜ、エリヤが先に来るはずだと言っているのですか」。
答えて言われた、「確かに、エリヤがきて、万事を元どおりに改めるであろう。
しかし、あなたがたに言っておく。エリヤはすでにきたのだ。しかし人々は彼を認めず、自分かってに彼をあしらった。人の子もまた、そのように彼らから苦しみを受けることになろう」。
そのとき、弟子たちは、イエスがバプテスマのヨハネのことを言われたのだと悟った。

☆今日の『み言葉』
マタイによる福音 17:10-13
人々はメシアを正しく理解していないので、イエスは弟子たちに、自分のことを言い広めないようにと戒められた。人々が待望していたメシアは、華々しく民を解放する存在であった。しかしエリヤとしての洗礼者ヨハネもイエスご自身もそのようなメシアではない。人々は自分たちが期待していたエリヤではなかったので洗礼者ヨハネを好きなようにあしらった。そしてイエス自身も人々から苦しめられるのである。だが、それこそが真のメシアである。私たちのメシアは、人々からいいようにあしらわれ、足蹴にされ、十字架につけられたメシアである。なぜ？ 神様がそれを望まれたのである。

シラ書〔集会の書〕 48:1-4, 9-11※
48章1節
そして火のような預言者エリヤが登場した。彼の言葉は松明のように燃えていた。
48章2節
彼は人々に飢饉をもたらし、その熱意をもって人々の数を減らした。
48章3節
彼は主の言葉によって天を閉ざし、三度、火を降らせた。
48章4節
エリヤよ、あなたはその驚くべき業のゆえに、どれほどほめたたえられたことだろうか。あなたと等しく誇りうる者があろうか。
48章9節
あなたは火の旋風に包まれ、火の馬の引く車に乗せられ天に上げられた。
48章10節
あなたは、書き記されているとおり、定められた時に備える者。神の怒りが激しくなる前に、これを静め、父の心を子に向けさせ、ヤコブの諸部族を立て直す者。
48章11節
あなたを見る者、また、愛のうちに眠りについた者は幸いである。確かに、わたしたちも生きるであろう。

ダビデが営をかまえた町よ、
年に年を加え、祭をめぐりこさせよ。
29:2
その時わたしはアリエルを悩ます。
そこには悲しみと嘆きとがあって、
アリエルのようなものとなる。
29:3
わたしはあなたのまわりに営を構え、
やぐらをもってあなたを囲み、
塁を築いてあなたを攻める。
29:4
その時あなたは深い地の中から物言い、
低いちりの中から言葉を出す。
あなたの声は亡霊の声のように地から出、
あなたの言葉はちりの中から、さえずるようである。
29:5
しかしあなたのあだの群れは
細かなちりのようになり、
あらぶる者の群れは
吹き去られるもみがらのようになる。
また、にわかに、またたくまに、この事がある。
29:6
すなわち万軍の主は雷、地震、大いなる叫び、
つむじ風、暴風および焼きつくす火の炎をもって
臨まれる。
29:7
そしてアリエルを攻めて戦う国々の群れ、
すなわちアリエルとその城を攻めて戦い、
これを悩ます者はみな
夢のように、夜の幻のようになる。
29:8
飢えた者が食べることを夢みても、
さめると、その飢えがいえないように、
あるいは、かわいた者が飲むことを夢みても、
さめると、疲れてそのかわきがとまらないように、
シオンの山を攻めて戦う国々の群れも
そのようになる。

9a As they were coming down from the mountain,
10 His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus answered them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,
12 but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognise him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”
13 Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptiser.

Sirach 48:1-4, 9-11
1 Also there arose Elijah the prophet as fire,
And his word burnt like a torch:
2 Who brought a famine upon them,
And by his zeal made them few in number.
3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven:
Thrice did he thus bring down fire.
4 How was you glorified, O Elijah, in your wondrous deeds!
And who shall glory like to you?
9 Who was taken up in a tempest of fire,
In a chariot of fiery horses:
10 Who was recorded for reproofs in their seasons,
To pacify anger, before it brake forth into wrath;
To turn the heart of the father to the son,
And to restore the tribes of Jacob.
11 Blessed are they that saw you,
And they that have been beautified with love;
For we also shall surely live.
