☆今日の聖書物語 *
ルカによる福音 1:5-25
ユダヤの王ヘロデの世に、アビヤの組の祭司で名をザカリヤという者がいた。その妻はアロン家の娘のひとりで、名をエリサベツといった。
ふたりとも神のみまえに正しい人であって、主の戒めと定めとを、みな落度なく行っていた。
ところが、エリサベツは不妊の女であったため、彼らには子がなく、そしてふたりともすでに年老いていた。
さてザカリヤは、その組が当番になり神のみまえに祭司の務をしていたとき、
祭司職の慣例に従ってくじを引いたところ、主の聖所にはいって香をたくことになった。
香をたいている間、多くの民衆はみな外で祈っていた。
すると主の御使が現れて、香壇の右に立った。
ザカリヤはこれを見て、おじ惑い、恐怖の念に襲われた。
そこで御使が彼に言った、「恐れるな、ザカリヤよ、あなたの祈が聞きいれられたのだ。あなたの妻エリサベツは男の子を産むであろう。その子をヨハネと名づけなさい。
彼はあなたに喜びと楽しみとをもたらし、多くの人々もその誕生を喜ぶであろう。
彼は主のみまえに大いなる者となり、ぶどう酒や強い酒をいっさい飲まず、母の胎内にいる時からすでに聖霊に満たされており、
そして、イスラエルの多くの子らを、主なる彼らの神に立ち帰らせるであろう。
彼はエリヤの霊と力とをもって、みまえに先立って行き、父の心を子に向けさせ、逆らう者に義人の思いを持たせて、整えられた民を主に備えるであろう」。
するとザカリヤは御使に言った、「どうしてそんな事が、わたしにわかるでしょうか。わたしは老人ですし、妻も年をとっています」。
御使が答えて言った、「わたしは神のみまえに立つガブリエルであって、この喜ばしい知らせをあなたに語り伝えるために、つかわされたものである。
時が来れば成就するわたしの言葉を信じなかったから、あなたはおしになり、この事の起る日まで、ものが言えなくなる」。
民衆はザカリヤを待っていたので、彼が聖所内で暇どっているのを不思議に思っていた。
ついに彼は出てきたが、物が言えなかったので、人々は彼が聖所内でまぼろしを見たのだと悟った。彼は彼らに合図をするだけで、引きつづき、おしのままでいた。
それから務の期日が終ったので、家に帰った。
そののち、妻エリサベツはみごもり、五か月のあいだ引きこもっていたが、
「主は、今わたしを心にかけてくださって、人々の間からわたしの恥を取り除くために、こうしてくださいました」と言った。

☆今日の『み言葉』
ルカによる福音 1:5-25
４つの福音書の中で一番初めに書かれたのはマルコ福音書です。西暦60年代後半にまとめられたこの福音書は16章の短い福音書で、聖書の始めの言葉は「神の子イエス・キリストの福音の初め」となっています。この＜福音＞という言葉は、“よろこびの知らせ”という意味です。
一方、80年代に書かれたルカ福音書は喜びの福音書といわれるほど“よろこび”を強調しています。今日の箇所でも14節と19節に、喜ぶとか喜ばしいという言葉が出てまいります。この喜びの言葉を聞いているのはザカリアという祭司です。
本来喜ばしいメッセージを「まさか」と信じきれなかったザカリアの立場には同情の余地がある、と思うのは人情というものでしょう。しかし、信じなかった結果として与えられたのは、１０ケ月の間話すことができないという現実。罰のようなものを受けるはめになるのです。しかし、１０ケ月間の沈黙という辛く長い月日の間、ザカリアはあれこれ思い巡らし祈ったに違いないのです。その結果、長い沈黙の後、口から発した第一声は「ほむべきかなBenedictus」という言葉だったのです。
話すことも、しゃべることもよい事、大事なこと。しかし、沈黙すること、思い巡らすことは、神への賛美への近道であり、よろこびと感謝への近道であることを思い起こしたいものです。

主の使がその女に現れて言った、「あなたはうまずめで、子を産んだことがありません。しかし、あなたは身ごもって男の子を産むでしょう。
13:4
それであなたは気をつけて、ぶどう酒または濃い酒を飲んではなりません。またすべて汚れたものを食べてはなりません。
13:5
あなたは身ごもって男の子を産むでしょう。その頭にかみそりをあててはなりません。その子は生れた時から神にささげられたナジルびとです。彼はペリシテびとの手からイスラエルを救い始めるでしょう」。
13:6
そこでその女はきて夫に言った、「神の人がわたしのところにきました。その顔かたちは神の使の顔かたちのようで、たいそう恐ろしゅうございました。わたしはその人が、どこからきたのか尋ねませんでしたが、その人もわたしに名を告げませんでした。

あなたは、それをあがなうことができない。
なやみが、あなたを襲う、

あなたが若い時から勤め行ったあなたの魔法と、
多くの魔術とをもって立ちむかってみよ、
あるいは成功するかもしれない、
あるいは敵を恐れさせるかもしれない。

あなたは多くの計りごとによってうみ疲れた。
かの天を分かつ者、星を見る者、
新月によって、あなたに臨む事を告げる者を
立ちあがらせて、あなたを救わせてみよ。

見よ、彼らはわらのようになって、
火に焼き滅ぼされ、
自分の身を炎の勢いから、救い出すことができない。
その火は身を暖める炭火ではない、

あなたが勤めて行ったものと、

Gospel: Luke 1:5-25
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
8 Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division,
9 according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.
11 An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.
13 But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard, and your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
14 You will have joy and gladness; and many will rejoice at his birth.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16 He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord, their God.
17 He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”
18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
19 The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you, and to bring you this good news.
20 Behold,* you will be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”
21 The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marvelled that he delayed in the temple.
22 When he came out, he could not speak to them, and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute.
23 When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
24 After these days Elizabeth, his wife, conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,
25 “Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach amongst men.”
*1:20: “Behold”, from “?δο?”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Judges 13:2-7, 24-25a
2 There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.
3 the LORD’s angel appeared to the woman, and said to her, “See now, you are barren and childless; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don’t eat any unclean thing:
5 for, behold, you shall conceive, and give birth to a son. No razor shall come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. He shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name;
7 but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink. Don’t eat any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’”
24 The woman bore a son, and named him Samson. The child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

Tuesday of the Third Week of Advent

Gospel: Luke 1:5-25
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the priestly division of Abijah. He had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
6 They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord.
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well advanced in years.
8 Now while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his division,
9 according to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.
10 The whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.
11 An angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12 Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.
13 But the angel said to him, “Don’t be afraid, Zacharias, because your request has been heard, and your wife, Elizabeth, will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John.
14 You will have joy and gladness; and many will rejoice at his birth.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will drink no wine nor strong drink. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
16 He will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord, their God.
17 He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to prepare a people prepared for the Lord.”
18 Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
19 The angel answered him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God. I was sent to speak to you, and to bring you this good news.
20 Behold,* you will be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things will happen, because you didn’t believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time.”
21 The people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marvelled that he delayed in the temple.
22 When he came out, he could not speak to them, and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to them, and remained mute.
23 When the days of his service were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
24 After these days Elizabeth, his wife, conceived, and she hid herself five months, saying,
25 “Thus has the Lord done to me in the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach amongst men.”
*1:20: “Behold”, from “?δο?”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Judges 13:2-7, 24-25a
2 There was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and childless.
3 the LORD’s angel appeared to the woman, and said to her, “See now, you are barren and childless; but you shall conceive, and bear a son.
4 Now therefore please beware and drink no wine nor strong drink, and don’t eat any unclean thing:
5 for, behold, you shall conceive, and give birth to a son. No razor shall come on his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb. He shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.”
6 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name;
7 but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink. Don’t eat any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’”
24 The woman bore a son, and named him Samson. The child grew, and the LORD blessed him.
