五旬節の日がきて、みんなの者が一緒に集まっていると、

突然、激しい風が吹いてきたような音が天から起ってきて、一同がすわっていた家いっぱいに響きわたった。

また、舌のようなものが、炎のように分れて現れ、ひとりびとりの上にとどまった。
2:4
すると、一同は聖霊に満たされ、御霊が語らせるままに、いろいろの他国の言葉で語り出した。

さて、エルサレムには、天下のあらゆる国々から、信仰深いユダヤ人たちがきて住んでいたが、

この物音に大ぜいの人が集まってきて、彼らの生れ故郷の国語で、使徒たちが話しているのを、だれもかれも聞いてあっけに取られた。

そして驚き怪しんで言った、「見よ、いま話しているこの人たちは、皆ガリラヤ人ではないか。

20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.
21 Jesus therefore said to them again, “Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
22 When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit!
23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, they have been forgiven them. If you retain anyone’s sins, they have been retained.”

5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.
6 When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.
7 They were all amazed and marvelled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans?
8 How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?
9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia,
10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

8 For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

10 and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.

ペテロはふり返ると、イエスの愛しておられた弟子がついて来るのを見た。この弟子は、あの夕食のときイエスの胸近くに寄りかかって、「主よ、あなたを裏切る者は、だれなのですか」と尋ねた人である。
ペテロはこの弟子を見て、イエスに言った、「主よ、この人はどうなのですか」。
イエスは彼に言われた、「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか。あなたは、わたしに従ってきなさい」。
こういうわけで、この弟子は死ぬことがないといううわさが、兄弟たちの間にひろまった。しかし、イエスは彼が死ぬことはないと言われたのではなく、ただ「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか」と言われただけである。
これらの事についてあかしをし、またこれらの事を書いたのは、この弟子である。そして彼のあかしが真実であることを、わたしたちは知っている。
イエスのなさったことは、このほかにまだ数多くある。もしいちいち書きつけるならば、世界もその書かれた文書を収めきれないであろうと思う。

子どもを叱ったとき、よく出る言い訳の一つ。
「??君だってやってたよ」 ほかの人を引き合いに出して、
自分のこととして受け入れようとしない態度。
ペトロは「あの人はどうなるのですか？」と他の弟子のことを気にする。
それは自分のするべきことから目を離して、
逃げそうになっている自分を見つめないことかもしれない。
そんな彼を引き戻すように、イエスは言う。
「あなたは私についてきなさい」
私たちの普段の生活でも、関係ないことに気を取られそうになるとき、
歩くべき道から外れそうなとき、
イエスのこの言葉をいつも響かせていきたい。
「あなたは私についてきなさい。」
そこに私の行くべき道があるのだから。

わたしたちがローマに着いた後、パウロは、ひとりの番兵をつけられ、ひとりで住むことを許された。

三日たってから、パウロは、重立ったユダヤ人たちを招いた。みんなの者が集まったとき、彼らに言った、「兄弟たちよ、わたしは、わが国民に対しても、あるいは先祖伝来の慣例に対しても、何一つそむく行為がなかったのに、エルサレムで囚人としてローマ人たちの手に引き渡された。

彼らはわたしを取り調べた結果、なんら死に当る罪状もないので、わたしを釈放しようと思ったのであるが、

Gospel : John 21:20-25
20 Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”
21 Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”
22 Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”
23 This saying therefore went out amongst the brothers,† that this disciple wouldn’t die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to him that he wouldn’t die, but, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who testifies about these things, and wrote these things. We know that his witness is true.
25 There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they would all be written, I suppose that even the world itself wouldn’t have room for the books that would be written.

19 But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.
20 For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”

彼らが食事をすませると、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、あなたはこの人たちが愛する以上に、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に「わたしの小羊を養いなさい」と言われた。
またもう一度彼に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。彼はイエスに言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（ヨハネによる福音 21:15-19）
復活したイエスとペトロとの対話の場面です。
イエスは三度にわたって「私を愛しているか」とペトロに問いかけます。
これはペトロがイエスの受難の際に三度、
イエスのことを否認したことに由来しています。
イエスがペトロに三度目の質問をしたとき、
「ペトロは悲しくなった」と福音書には書いています。
この悲しみは、かつてイエスを否認したことをイエスがまだ赦されていないとペトロが察したためであり、
イエスがペトロのことを信用していないとペトロが感じたためでもあります。
それゆえペトロは「私があなたを愛していることはあなたがよく知っておられます」と答えました。
イエスはこれには答えられません。
ペトロがイエスのことを本当に愛しているとイエスが知っているはずだというのはペトロがそう思っている、
願っていることなのかもしれません。
イエスの受難の前にも決してイエスを否認することはない、
と断言したペトロでしたが、
自分の身の安全を慮ったために、
彼の言ったとおりの結果にはなりませんでした。
最後までイエスに従うことができなかったのです。
ペトロの思い込みと現実との乖離があります。
ペトロはこのことにいまだに気がついていないようです。
イエスははっきりとイエスに従うことは死ぬことであると言われました。
そして最後に「私に従いなさい」とペトロを招かれました。
ペトロがイエスを愛している、
イエスに愛されているという思いと現実とが一つになる機会が訪れました。
私たちは体験で、現実を知るつらさを知っています。
それを受け入れて乗り越えることができたときに、
私たちは人として成長することができます。
ペトロのようにイエスを愛することは従うことであるという現実と直面するときに、
私たちが勇気をもって「従う」ことができるように、
それをとおしてキリスト者として成長することができるように願いたいものです。

わたしがエルサレムに行った時、この男のことを、祭司長たちやユダヤ人の長老たちが、わたしに報告し、彼を罪に定めるようにと要求した。

そこでわたしは、彼らに答えた、『訴えられた者が、訴えた者の前に立って、告訴に対し弁明する機会を与えられない前に、その人を見放してしまうのは、ローマ人の慣例にはないことである』。

Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, “Do you have affection for me?” He said to him, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I have affection for you.”

18 Most certainly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

20 Being perplexed how to enquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.
21 But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

14 As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;
15 about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.
16 To whom I answered that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before the accused has met the accusers face to face, and has had opportunity to make his defence concerning the matter laid against him.
17 When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgement seat, and commanded the man to be brought.
18 Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no charge of such things as I supposed;
19 but had certain questions against him about their own religion, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
20 Being perplexed how to enquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.
21 But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

翌日、彼は、ユダヤ人がなぜパウロを訴え出たのか、その真相を知ろうと思って彼を解いてやり、同時に祭司長たちと全議会とを召集させ、そこに彼を引き出して、彼らの前に立たせた。

パウロは、議員の一部がサドカイ人であり、一部はパリサイ人であるのを見て、議会の中で声を高めて言った、「兄弟たちよ、わたしはパリサイ人であり、パリサイ人の子である。わたしは、死人の復活の望みをいだいていることで、裁判を受けているのである」。

彼がこう言ったところ、パリサイ人とサドカイ人との間に争論が生じ、会衆が相分れた。

元来、サドカイ人は、復活とか天使とか霊とかは、いっさい存在しないと言い、パリサイ人は、それらは、みな存在すると主張している。

22 The glory which you have given me, I have given to them; that they may be one, even as we are one;
23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that you sent me, and loved them, even as you loved me.
24 Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory, which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
25 Righteous Father, the world hasn’t known you, but I knew you; and these knew that you sent me.
26 I made known to them your name, and will make it known; that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

30 But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
23:6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged!”
7 When he had said this, an arguement arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the crowd was divided.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.
9 A great clamour arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees’ part stood up, and contended, saying, “We find no evil in this man. But if a spirit or angel has spoken to him, let’s not fight against God!”
10 When a great arguement arose, the commanding officer, fearing that Paul would be torn in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down and take him by force from amongst them, and bring him into the barracks.
11 The following night, the Lord stood by him, and said, “Cheer up, Paul, for as you have testified about me at Jerusalem, so you must testify also at Rome.”

わたしが彼らと一緒にいた間は、あなたからいただいた御名によって彼らを守り、また保護してまいりました。彼らのうち、だれも滅びず、ただ滅びの子だけが滅びました。それは聖書が成就するためでした。
今わたしはみもとに参ります。そして世にいる間にこれらのことを語るのは、わたしの喜びが彼らのうちに満ちあふれるためであります。

普通「与えるよりは受けるほうが幸せ」と考えがちな
私たちの意識をまさにひっくり返してくれる教えです。
フィリピンで生活していたとき、
フィリピンの人々がたとえ貧しくても客人をとことんもてなし、
喜ぶ姿をみて、この言葉の意味を学んだものでした。
おやつのパンを配ると、それを独り占めにすることなく、
自分の弟や妹に分けてあげて、
うれしそうに食べていた子供たちの笑顔も思い出します。
与える喜びを通して感じる幸せを
たくさん味わうようにしたいものです。

わたしが彼らと一緒にいた間は、あなたからいただいた御名によって彼らを守り、また保護してまいりました。彼らのうち、だれも滅びず、ただ滅びの子だけが滅びました。それは聖書が成就するためでした。

今わたしはみもとに参ります。そして世にいる間にこれらのことを語るのは、わたしの喜びが彼らのうちに満ちあふれるためであります。

14 I have given them your word. The world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one.

あなたは、子に賜わったすべての者に、永遠の命を授けさせるため、万民を支配する権威を子にお与えになったのですから。
永遠の命とは、唯一の、まことの神でいますあなたと、また、あなたがつかわされたイエス・キリストとを知ることであります。
わたしは、わたしにさせるためにお授けになったわざをなし遂げて、地上であなたの栄光をあらわしました。
父よ、世が造られる前に、わたしがみそばで持っていた栄光で、今み前にわたしを輝かせて下さい。

結局それは私たちの作り上げたものでしかありません。
今日、イエスは「永遠の命とは、唯一のまことの神であられるあなたと、
あなたのお遣わしになったイエス・キリストを知ることです」と言われます。
この言葉をたっぷり黙想し、イメージすることが必要です。
手がかりは、神が愛であること、その愛は永遠であること。
その愛を伝えるためにイエス・キリストが遣わされたこと。

すなわち、謙遜の限りをつくし、涙を流し、ユダヤ人の陰謀によってわたしの身に及んだ数々の試練の中にあって、主に仕えてきた。

また、あなたがたの益になることは、公衆の前でも、また家々でも、すべてあますところなく話して聞かせ、また教え、

1 Jesus said these things, and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, “Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may also glorify you;
2 even as you gave him authority over all flesh, he will give eternal life to all whom you have given him.
3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
4 I glorified you on the earth. I have accomplished the work which you have given me to do.
5 Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world existed.

弟子であるということで私たちが今でも必ず出会っていく苦難や
精神的負担またプレッシャーに直面するとき、
イエスは「（ギリシャ語＝勇気）（Tharseite＝ザルセイテ）と
心に強く聞かせてくださいます。
この箇所の前後を読んで、原語の「Tharseite」の意味は
「良い心理状態でいなさい」または「信頼を保ちなさい」とか
「落ち着いていなさい」または「心の平安を保ちなさい」などのようなものです。
否定の形で翻訳すればその言葉のインパクトがまだ大きい。
「暗くなるな」「おびえるな」
「大変さに負けるな」「ストレスになるな」・・・のようになります。
イエス様らしい指示だと思いませんか？

11 who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”

19 Go,† and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

1 The first book I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Jesus began both to do and to teach,

4 Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.

11 who also said, “You men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who was received up from you into the sky, will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky.”

その時、先生は紹介状を書いてくださいました。
病院の先生はその紹介状を読んでから、
とても親切に、また詳しく症状について説明してくれました。
紹介状を書いてくださった先生はその医大の名誉教授でもあったのです。
このことを考えますと、今日の福音の言葉がよく解ります。
父である神様はご自分の最愛のお子様の名を通して頼む者にお答えにならない筈はありません。
しかし私たちもイエス様のお名前を使わせていただく以上は、
イエス様ともっと親しくなることが大切です。
イエス様のことをもっとよく知り、
イエス様のお望みのように生きていくことです。

23 “In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.
25 I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26 In that day you will ask in my name; and I don’t say to you, that I will pray to the Father for you,
27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
28 I came from the Father, and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.”

23 Having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.
24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.
25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.
26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
27 When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;
28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

これはミサのアレルヤ唱に出てきます。
聖書の中で主イエスの受難・死・復活が語られますが、
今日の福音では、復活した主イエスとともにある喜びのことを特に強調しております。
かつて弟子たちは主イエスとともに生活し、
多くの話を聞き、その教えに従おうとしました。
そしていよいよ徹底的に従おうとしたのは、
復活した主イエスとの出会いでした。
これまで復活節の中で、
このような聖書の場面をよく黙想してきたのではないでしょうか。
そして今日のわたしたちも、
復活された主イエスとの出会いを想いながら、
祈りながら、毎日の生活をすごしています。
いつもともにいてくだる方は、わたしたちの内におられ、

あなたには、わたしがついている。だれもあなたを襲って、危害を加えるようなことはない。この町には、わたしの民が大ぜいいる」。

パウロは一年六か月の間ここに腰をすえて、神の言を彼らの間に教えつづけた。

ところが、ガリオがアカヤの総督であった時、ユダヤ人たちは一緒になってパウロを襲い、彼を法廷にひっぱって行って訴えた、

20 Most certainly I tell you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
21 A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn’t remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.
22 Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23 “In that day you will ask me no questions. Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.

9 The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, “Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent;
10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.”
11 He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God amongst them.
12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgement seat,
13 saying, “This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”
14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;
15 but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters.”
16 So he drove them from the judgement seat.
17 Then all the Greeks laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgement seat. Gallio didn’t care about any of these things.
18 Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, * and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
*18:18: The word for “brothers” here and where the context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.”

その後、パウロはアテネを去ってコリントへ行った。

そこで、アクラというポント生れのユダヤ人と、その妻プリスキラとに出会った。クラウデオ帝が、すべてのユダヤ人をローマから退去させるようにと、命令したため、彼らは近ごろイタリヤから出てきたのである。
18:3
パウロは彼らのところに行ったが、互に同業であったので、その家に住み込んで、一緒に仕事をした。天幕造りがその職業であった。
18:4
パウロは安息日ごとに会堂で論じては、ユダヤ人やギリシヤ人の説得に努めた。

シラスとテモテが、マケドニヤから下ってきてからは、パウロは御言を伝えることに専念し、イエスがキリストであることを、ユダヤ人たちに力強くあかしした。

しかし、彼らがこれに反抗してののしり続けたので、パウロは自分の上着を振りはらって、彼らに言った、「あなたがたの血は、あなたがた自身にかえれ。わたしには責任がない。今からわたしは異邦人の方に行く」。

こう言って、彼はそこを去り、テテオ・ユストという神を敬う人の家に行った。その家は会堂と隣り合っていた。
