そこで弟子たちはみそばに寄ってきてイエスを起し、「主よ、お助けください、わたしたちは死にそうです」と言った。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（マタイによる福音 8:23-27）
弟子たちが、困難に直面してイエスに助けを求めたことは、決して間違った行為ではありません。
むしろ、イエスが共に居られるのに、自分たちだけで解決しようとすることの方が問題です。
イエスが弟子たちを咎めたのは、助けを求めたからではなく、困難にあって「怖れた」からです。
怖れというものは戦う気概の欠けた状態ですから、言い換えれば、悪に身を委ねる一歩手前ということになります。
これをイエスは嫌ったのです。
風や湖ですら従える、つまり神であるイエスが共にいてくださる限り、怖れは無用。
この感覚が信仰と呼ばれているものです。
では質問です。あなたはイエスを信じていますか。

Gospel : Matthew 8:23-27
23 When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
24 Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.
25 They came to him, and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are dying!”
26 He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm.
27 The men marvelled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12
3:1 Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up out of the land of Egypt, saying:
2 “You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth.
Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins.”
3 Do two walk together,
unless they have agreed?
4 Will a lion roar in the thicket,
when he has no prey?
Does a young lion cry out of his den,
if he has caught nothing?
5 Can a bird fall in a trap on the earth,
where no snare is set for him?
Does a snare spring up from the ground,
when there is nothing to catch?
6 Does the trumpet alarm sound in a city,
without the people being afraid?
Does evil happen to a city,
and the LORD hasn’t done it?
7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing,
unless he reveals his secret to his servants the prophets.
8 The lion has roared.
Who will not fear?
The Lord GOD has spoken.
Who can but prophesy?
4:11 “I have overthrown some of you,
as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire;
yet you haven’t returned to me,” says the LORD.
12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, Israel;
because I will do this to you,
prepare to meet your God, Israel.

＜今日の聖書物語 *＞
（マタイによる福音 16:13-19）
イエスがピリポ・カイザリヤの地方に行かれたとき、弟子たちに尋ねて言われた、「人々は人の子をだれと言っているか」。
彼らは言った、「ある人々はバプテスマのヨハネだと言っています。しかし、ほかの人たちは、エリヤだと言い、また、エレミヤあるいは預言者のひとりだ、と言っている者もあります」。
そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「それでは、あなたがたはわたしをだれと言うか」。
シモン・ペテロが答えて言った、「あなたこそ、生ける神の子キリストです」。
すると、イエスは彼にむかって言われた、「バルヨナ・シモン、あなたはさいわいである。あなたにこの事をあらわしたのは、血肉ではなく、天にいますわたしの父である。
そこで、わたしもあなたに言う。あなたはペテロである。そして、わたしはこの岩の上にわたしの教会を建てよう。黄泉の力もそれに打ち勝つことはない。
わたしは、あなたに天国のかぎを授けよう。そして、あなたが地上でつなぐことは、天でもつながれ、あなたが地上で解くことは天でも解かれるであろう」。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（マタイによる福音 16:13-19）
ペトロとパウロ。使徒たちの中でも特に偉大な使徒としてお祝いされる二人。
彼らの偉大さはどこにあるのでしょう。
ペトロは、衝動的性格が特徴的で、イエス様からは時に褒められたり、
時に叱責を受けたり、そばにいたかと思うと逃げたり、嘘をついたりとお調子者の弱い人でした。
パウロは、学歴のある熱心なユダヤ教徒であり、キリスト教徒を激しく迫害するもので、「罪人の中の罪人」でした。
彼らは使徒としては正直ふさわしくはないと思われても仕方がない者たちでした。
でも彼らはそんな自分たちの弱さや過ちに気付き、深く受け止め、よく自覚していたわけです。
これが彼らの聖性の源だったのです。
自分の弱さ、罪深さを知り、気付き、認め、受け入れることによって彼らの霊性は磨かれていき、
教会をリードする偉大な使徒に成長したわけです。
そして最後には自分の命を捧げてまでも証しに努めたのです。
ここに彼らの偉大さがあり、
「私は弱い時にこそ強いのである。」というパウロ自身の言葉に納得するわけです。
わたしたちも現代に生きるキリストの弟子・使徒。優れた人間だからではありません。
いろんな弱さがあります。相変わらず罪を犯します。時にそんな自分に寂しさを覚えます。
いいのです。自分の弱さを素直に認め受け入れましょう。目をそらさず自覚し、赦しを願いましょう。
それによって、こんな弱い自分を愛してくださる神様の愛の大きさにより気付いていけるのです。
そしてその愛に促されて私たちの霊性は磨かれていくのです。使徒として成長していけるのです。
逆に私たちは、自分が弱い人間であること、罪びとであることから目をそらし、
忘れる時、自分の聖性、霊性が失われていくのでしょう。
聖ペトロと聖パウロの偉大さを称え、
彼らの取り次ぎによって私たちも使徒として強められるように祈りましょう。

そのころ、ヘロデ王は教会のある者たちに圧迫の手をのばし、

ヨハネの兄弟ヤコブをつるぎで切り殺した。
12:3
そして、それがユダヤ人たちの意にかなったのを見て、さらにペテロをも捕えにかかった。それは除酵祭の時のことであった。
12:4
ヘロデはペテロを捕えて獄に投じ、四人一組の兵卒四組に引き渡して、見張りをさせておいた。過越の祭のあとで、彼を民衆の前に引き出すつもりであったのである。
12:5
こうして、ペテロは獄に入れられていた。教会では、彼のために熱心な祈が神にささげられた。
12:6
ヘロデが彼を引き出そうとしていたその夜、ペテロは二重の鎖につながれ、ふたりの兵卒の間に置かれて眠っていた。番兵たちは戸口で獄を見張っていた。
12:7
すると、突然、主の使がそばに立ち、光が獄内を照した。そして御使はペテロのわき腹をつついて起し、「早く起きあがりなさい」と言った。すると鎖が彼の両手から、はずれ落ちた。
12:8
御使が「帯をしめ、くつをはきなさい」と言ったので、彼はそのとおりにした。それから「上着を着て、ついてきなさい」と言われたので、
12:9
ペテロはついて出て行った。彼には御使のしわざが現実のこととは考えられず、ただ幻を見ているように思われた。
12:10
彼らは第一、第二の衛所を通りすぎて、町に抜ける鉄門のところに来ると、それがひとりでに開いたので、そこを出て一つの通路に進んだとたんに、御使は彼を離れ去った。
12:11
その時ペテロはわれにかえって言った、「今はじめて、ほんとうのことがわかった。主が御使をつかわして、ヘロデの手から、またユダヤ人たちの待ちもうけていたあらゆる災から、わたしを救い出して下さったのだ」。

ヘロデはペテロを捕えて獄に投じ、四人一組の兵卒四組に引き渡して、見張りをさせておいた。過越の祭のあとで、彼を民衆の前に引き出すつもりであったのである。

13 Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 They said, “Some say John the Baptiser, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18 I also tell you that you are Peter,* and on this rock † I will build my assembly, and the gates of Hades‡ will not prevail against it.
19 I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will have been bound in heaven; and whatever you release on earth will have been released in heaven.”
*16:18: Peter’s name, Petros in Greek, is the word for a specific rock or stone.

4 When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.
5 Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him.
6 The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.
7 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off from his hands.
8 The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak, and follow me.”
9 And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
11 When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.”

6 For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure has come.
7 I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.
8 From now on, there is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.
17 But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
18 And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly Kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

その女は夫に言った、「いつもわたしたちの所を通るあの人は確かに神の聖なる人です。

わたしたちは屋上に壁のある一つの小さいへやを造り、そこに寝台と机といすと燭台とを彼のために備えましょう。そうすれば彼がわたしたちの所に来るとき、そこに、はいることができます」。

さて、ある日エリシャはそこにきて、そのへやにはいり、そこに休んだが、

エリシャは言った、「それでは彼女のために何をしようか」。ゲハジは言った、「彼女には子供がなく、その夫は老いています」。

39 He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward. He who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward.

さて、イエスがカペナウムに帰ってこられたとき、ある百卒長がみもとにきて訴えて言った、
「主よ、わたしの僕が中風でひどく苦しんで、家に寝ています」。
イエスは彼に、「わたしが行ってなおしてあげよう」と言われた。
そこで百卒長は答えて言った、「主よ、わたしの屋根の下にあなたをお入れする資格は、わたしにはございません。ただ、お言葉を下さい。そうすれば僕はなおります。
わたしも権威の下にある者ですが、わたしの下にも兵卒がいまして、ひとりの者に『行け』と言えば行き、ほかの者に『こい』と言えばきますし、また、僕に『これをせよ』と言えば、してくれるのです」。
イエスはこれを聞いて非常に感心され、ついてきた人々に言われた、「よく聞きなさい。イスラエル人の中にも、これほどの信仰を見たことがない。
なお、あなたがたに言うが、多くの人が東から西からきて、天国で、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブと共に宴会の席につくが、
この国の子らは外のやみに追い出され、そこで泣き叫んだり、歯がみをしたりするであろう」。
それからイエスは百卒長に「行け、あなたの信じたとおりになるように」と言われた。すると、ちょうどその時に、僕はいやされた。
それから、イエスはペテロの家にはいって行かれ、そのしゅうとめが熱病で、床についているのをごらんになった。
そこで、その手にさわられると、熱が引いた。そして女は起きあがってイエスをもてなした。
夕暮になると、人々は悪霊につかれた者を大ぜい、みもとに連れてきたので、イエスはみ言葉をもって霊どもを追い出し、病人をことごとくおいやしになった。
これは、預言者イザヤによって「彼は、わたしたちのわずらいを身に受け、わたしたちの病を負うた」と言われた言葉が成就するためである。

ユダヤ人たちは、決して異邦人の家に入りませんでした。
なぜなら、「汚れ」の問題があったからです。
しかし、イエスは異邦人である百人隊長のところに行って、癒そうと言われます。
その後、ペトロのしゅうとめを癒し、
夕方になっても大勢の人たちの悪霊を追い出したり、病を癒されます。
イエスは一日中、癒され続けます。
イエスの前では境界線、時間、場所、人(好き嫌い、人数)や掟は関係ありません。
とにかくどの人も同じ唯一の人間です。
ここに愛徳があると思います。
私たちもまず目の前にいる人、近くにいる人、
出会う一人ひとりをかけがえのない存在として大切に関わり、
触れ合っていきたいものです。

Gospel : Matthew 8:5-17
5 When he came into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking him,
6 and saying, “Lord, my servant lies in the house paralysed, grievously tormented.”
7 Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
8 The centurion answered, “Lord, I’m not worthy for you to come under my roof. Just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
9 For I am also a man under authority, having under myself soldiers. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and tell another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and tell my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to those who followed, “Most certainly I tell you, I haven’t found so great a faith, not even in Israel.
11 I tell you that many will come from the east and the west, and will sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven,
12 but the children of the Kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
13 Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way. Let it be done for you as you have believed.” His servant was healed in that hour.
14 When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever.
15 He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and served him. *
16 When evening came, they brought to him many possessed with demons. He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick;
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying, “He took our infirmities, and bore our diseases.”☆

They have cast up dust on their heads; they have clothed themselves with sackcloth:
The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.
11 My eyes do fail with tears, my heart is troubled;
My liver is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people,
Because the young children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city.
12 They tell their mothers, Where is grain and wine?
When they swoon as the wounded in the streets of the city,
When their soul is poured out into their mothers’ bosom.
13 What shall I testify to you? what shall I liken to you, daughter of Jerusalem?
What shall I compare to you, that I may comfort you, virgin daughter of Zion?
For your breach is great like the sea: who can heal you?
14 Your prophets have seen for you false and foolish visions;
They have not uncovered your iniquity, to bring back your captivity,
but have seen for you false revelations and causes of banishment.
18 Their heart cried to the Lord:
wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night;
Give yourself no respite; don’t let the apple of your eye cease.
19 Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches;
Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord:
Lift up your hands towards him for the life of your young children, that faint for hunger at the head of every street.

すると、そのとき、ひとりのらい病人がイエスのところにきて、ひれ伏して言った、「主よ、みこころでしたら、きよめていただけるのですが」。
イエスは手を伸ばして、彼にさわり、「そうしてあげよう、きよくなれ」と言われた。すると、らい病は直ちにきよめられた。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（マタイによる福音 8:1-4）
今日のマタイ福音書の喩は興味深いものです。
無記名の人が登場します。その人が病人で重い皮膚病を患っているのです。
人々も宗教家も社会からも除外されて孤独感をしみじみ味わっています。
誰も彼を助ける事ができませんでした。本人はイエスに全幅の信頼をおきます。
イエスに近寄って、へりくだって、イエスの前にひれ伏して、
イエスがどなたかを認め−主を−信頼してみ心ならばおできになります
と慎んでいやして下さるよう願い求めたのです。
結局、彼は声だけでなく、その存在の全てを主に明け渡すように整えられていたのです。
イエスは分け隔てのない全ての人への神の愛、
特に最も小さくされた人、罪人、見捨てられた人を拾って上げられるのです。
要するに重い皮膚病を患っている人を癒すことによって、
イエスは彼がユダヤ人社会に復帰できるようになさったのです。
またそれによって、イエスがつい先ほどまで群衆に向かって語っておられた生き方とは、
他の人々と共に生きるべきことが強調されました。
最後に、イエスは重い皮膚病を患っている人に
神のなさった業を他の人々に話してはならないと口止めなさいました。
何故でしょうか。
おそらく、「大勢の群衆」がイエスを迫って山を下り、
癒しの業を既に目撃していたからでしょう。
多くの証人がこの驚くべき福音を伝えることでしょう。
しかしイエスにはもう一つの点、強調したいことがありました。
私たちの生き方そのものが、私たちの語る言葉と同じように福音を力強く伝える事です。
私たちの生き方は神のみ旨と私たちの信仰を反映するものでなければなりません。
御父のも旨に従順であれば、私たちの信仰を表しています。

2 Behold, a leper came to him and worshipped him, saying, “Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean.”
3 Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, “I want to. Be made clean.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 Jesus said to him, “See that you tell nobody, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

2 Kings 25:1-12
1 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it around it.
2 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.
3 On the ninth day of the fourth month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.
4 Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden (now the Chaldeans were against the city around it); and the king went by the way of the Arabah.
5 But the Chaldean army pursued the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
6 Then they captured the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they passed judgement on him.
7 They killed Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, then put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him in fetters, and carried him to Babylon.
8 Now in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.
9 He burnt the LORD’s house, the king’s house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house, he burnt with fire.
10 All the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem.
11 Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the residue of the people who were left in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon, and the residue of the multitude.
12 But the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to work the vineyards and fields.

わたしにむかって『主よ、主よ』と言う者が、みな天国にはいるのではなく、ただ、天にいますわが父の御旨を行う者だけが、はいるのである。
その日には、多くの者が、わたしにむかって『主よ、主よ、わたしたちはあなたの名によって預言したではありませんか。また、あなたの名によって悪霊を追い出し、あなたの名によって多くの力あるわざを行ったではありませんか』と言うであろう。
そのとき、わたしは彼らにはっきり、こう言おう、『あなたがたを全く知らない。不法を働く者どもよ、行ってしまえ』。
それで、わたしのこれらの言葉を聞いて行うものを、岩の上に自分の家を建てた賢い人に比べることができよう。
雨が降り、洪水が押し寄せ、風が吹いてその家に打ちつけても、倒れることはない。岩を土台としているからである。
また、わたしのこれらの言葉を聞いても行わない者を、砂の上に自分の家を建てた愚かな人に比べることができよう。
雨が降り、洪水が押し寄せ、風が吹いてその家に打ちつけると、倒れてしまう。そしてその倒れ方はひどいのである」。
イエスがこれらの言を語り終えられると、群衆はその教にひどく驚いた。
それは律法学者たちのようにではなく、権威ある者のように、教えられたからである。

それを受け入れるか、それとも受け入れないか。
多くの場合、すばらしい教えだと思いつつも心の中にとどまらず、
私たちを変えることがない。
イエスの言葉を受け入れるとは、
確かに硬くて抵抗もあるかもしれないが、
しっかりした岩盤に自分の基礎として、
イエスの言葉を打ち込むことなのかもしれない。
鉄の杭でも、打ち込む場所が固ければ何度も何度も金づちで打ち込む。
イエスの言葉の杭も、一回だけではなく何度も何度も、
私の心の基礎に打ち込むべきであろう。

エホヤキンは王となった時十八歳で、エルサレムで三か月の間、世を治めた。母はエルサレムのエルナタンの娘で、名をネホシタといった。

エホヤキンはすべてその父がおこなったように主の目の前に悪を行った。

そのころ、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルの家来たちはエルサレムに攻め上って、町を囲んだ。

その家来たちが町を囲んでいたとき、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルもまた町に攻めてきた。

ユダの王エホヤキンはその母、その家来、そのつかさたち、および侍従たちと共に出て、バビロンの王に降服したので、バビロンの王は彼を捕虜とした。これはネブカデネザルの治世の第八年であった。

22 Many will tell me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your name, in your name cast out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?’
23 Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’
24 “Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock.
25 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn’t do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand.
27 The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it fell?and great was its fall.”

13 He carried out from there all the treasures of the LORD’s house, and the treasures of the king’s house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold, which Solomon king of Israel had made in the LORD’s temple, as the LORD had said.
14 He carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the mighty men of valour, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and the smiths. No one remained, except the poorest people of the land.
15 He carried away Jehoiachin to Babylon, with the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officers, and the chief men of the land. He carried them into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon.
16 All the men of might, even seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths one thousand, all of them strong and fit for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.
17 The king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s father’s brother, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah.

＜今日の聖書物語 *＞
（ルカによる福音 1:57-66, 80）
さてエリサベツは月が満ちて、男の子を産んだ。
近所の人々や親族は、主が大きなあわれみを彼女におかけになったことを聞いて、共どもに喜んだ。
八日目になったので、幼な子に割礼をするために人々がきて、父の名にちなんでザカリヤという名にしようとした。
ところが、母親は、「いいえ、ヨハネという名にしなくてはいけません」と言った。
人々は、「あなたの親族の中には、そういう名のついた者は、ひとりもいません」と彼女に言った。
そして父親に、どんな名にしたいのですかと、合図で尋ねた。
ザカリヤは書板を持ってこさせて、それに「その名はヨハネ」と書いたので、みんなの者は不思議に思った。
すると、立ちどころにザカリヤの口が開けて舌がゆるみ、語り出して神をほめたたえた。
近所の人々はみな恐れをいだき、またユダヤの山里の至るところに、これらの事がことごとく語り伝えられたので、
聞く者たちは皆それを心に留めて、「この子は、いったい、どんな者になるだろう」と語り合った。主のみ手が彼と共にあった。
幼な子は成長し、その霊も強くなり、そしてイスラエルに現れる日まで、荒野にいた。

洗礼者ヨハネは先駆者ヨハネとも呼ばれ、
イエスを先駆ける者としての存在は有名です。
そんな彼は、自分のことを
「その方（イエス）はわたしの後から来られるが、
わたしはその足の履物をお脱がせする値打ちもない」
と述べたことはよく知られており、
第二朗読でも引用されています。
このような洗礼者ヨハネの誕生の次第が福音では述べられますが、
名前をつける段階になって親戚間で問題が生じたことがわかります。
イスラエルでは親類から名前をもらうのが通例のようですが、
ヨハネの場合は神からのお告げにより、
またザカリアの受けた奇跡から名前が決まっていきます。
この場面においても神の力が目一杯に働いていることが明らかです。
一つの出来事を通して神が働きかけられることはたくさんあります。
わたしたちの日常においてはこのような劇的な出来事はほとんどありませんが、
ヨハネの謙遜さを学び、
また神様の望みを探りながらそれを受け入れることができるように祈りもとめたいものです。

57 Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son.
58 Her neighbours and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.”
61 They said to her, “There is no one amongst your relatives who is called by this name.”
62 They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
63 He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.”
They all marvelled.
64 His mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.

57 Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled, and she gave birth to a son.
58 Her neighbours and her relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her, and they rejoiced with her.
59 On the eighth day, they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.
60 His mother answered, “Not so; but he will be called John.”
61 They said to her, “There is no one amongst your relatives who is called by this name.”
62 They made signs to his father, what he would have him called.
63 He asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, “His name is John.”
They all marvelled.
64 His mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.
65 Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these sayings were talked about throughout all the hill country of Judea.

私は小さい時に、
よく母親から「わが身をつねって他人の痛さを知れ」という言葉を聞かされました。
自分で自分をつねれば、痛いのが解ります。
痛いのはもちろん嫌です。
ほかの人をつねれば、その人は痛いので嫌がります。
だから自分でも嫌なことは、人にもしてはいけないと教えてくれたのです。
今日読まれる福音書のイエス様のお言葉、
「人から自分にしてもらいたいと望むことを、人にもしてあげなさい。」は、
「人がいやがることはしない」ということよりずっと積極的な愛徳の業を勧めているのです。
私たちは今までになんども物をいただいたり、
手を貸していただいたりして、
嬉しかった経験があるでしょう。
ですから、これからもっと実行してみましょう。
人も神様も喜ばれることを。

12 Therefore whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
13 “Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it.
14 How* narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.

9b “Behold, he has come out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,
10 ‘Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: “Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?
14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the LORD’s house, and spread it before the LORD.
15 Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, “LORD, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

19 Now therefore, LORD our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God alone.”
20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “the LORD, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.
21 This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: ‘The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
30 The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
31 For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. the LORD’s zeal will perform this.
32 “Therefore the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
33 By the way that he came, by the same he will return, and he will not come to this city,’ says the LORD.
34 ‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’”
35a That night, the LORD’s angel went out, and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians.
36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and lived at Nineveh.

＜今日の聖書物語 *＞
（マタイによる福音 7:1-5）
人をさばくな。自分がさばかれないためである。
あなたがたがさばくそのさばきで、自分もさばかれ、あなたがたの量るそのはかりで、自分にも量り与えられるであろう。
なぜ、兄弟の目にあるちりを見ながら、自分の目にある梁を認めないのか。
自分の目には梁があるのに、どうして兄弟にむかって、あなたの目からちりを取らせてください、と言えようか。
偽善者よ、まず自分の目から梁を取りのけるがよい。そうすれば、はっきり見えるようになって、兄弟の目からちりを取りのけることができるだろう。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（マタイによる福音 7:1-5）
「あなたは、兄弟の目にあるおが屑は見えるのに、
なぜ自分の目の中の丸太に気づかないのか」。
今日の福音の中で人を裁いてはならない、というメッセージがあります。
欠点というものは、他人においてよく見えやすいのに、
自分のこととなると何も見えない、ということもあります。
ここでは他人のことを責める前に、自分自身のことを振り返る必要があるでしょう。
信仰生活の歩みにおいても、自分自身のことを見つめる機会をもつようにすすめているようです。
「自分の目の中の丸太に気づかない」という言い方はインパクトがありますが、

（マタイによる福音 7:1-5）
「あなたは、兄弟の目にあるおが屑は見えるのに、
なぜ自分の目の中の丸太に気づかないのか」。
今日の福音の中で人を裁いてはならない、というメッセージがあります。
欠点というものは、他人においてよく見えやすいのに、
自分のこととなると何も見えない、ということもあります。
ここでは他人のことを責める前に、自分自身のことを振り返る必要があるでしょう。
信仰生活の歩みにおいても、自分自身のことを見つめる機会をもつようにすすめているようです。
「自分の目の中の丸太に気づかない」という言い方はインパクトがありますが、
それだけ大切なことに気づかず、余計なことに心を煩わせているのではないでしょうか。
神の前に身をおき、大切なことを見ることができるよう、
今日という一日を大切にすごしていきましょう。

1 “Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.
2 For with whatever judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.
3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?
4 Or how will you tell your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye;’ and behold, the beam is in your own eye?
5 You hypocrite! First remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.

5 Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.
7 It was so because the children of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,
8 and walked in the statutes of the nations whom the LORD cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.
13 Yet the LORD testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”
14 Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in the LORD their God.
15a They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them;
18 Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

二羽のすずめは一アサリオンで売られているではないか。しかもあなたがたの父の許しがなければ、その一羽も地に落ちることはない。

しかし主は強い勇士のように
わたしと共におられる。

彼らは、なし遂げることができなくて、

26 Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.
27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.
28 Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. §
29 “Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin?** Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will, 30 but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33 But whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33
26 Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.
27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.
28 Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. §
29 “Aren’t two sparrows sold for an assarion coin?** Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father’s will, 30 but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Everyone therefore who confesses me before men, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33 But whoever denies me before men, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

＜今日の聖書物語 *＞
（ルカによる福音 2:41-51）
さて、イエスの両親は、過越の祭には毎年エルサレムへ上っていた。
イエスが十二歳になった時も、慣例に従って祭のために上京した。
ところが、祭が終って帰るとき、少年イエスはエルサレムに居残っておられたが、両親はそれに気づかなかった。
そして道連れの中にいることと思いこんで、一日路を行ってしまい、それから、親族や知人の中を捜しはじめたが、
見つからないので、捜しまわりながらエルサレムへ引返した。
そして三日の後に、イエスが宮の中で教師たちのまん中にすわって、彼らの話を聞いたり質問したりしておられるのを見つけた。
聞く人々はみな、イエスの賢さやその答に驚嘆していた。
両親はこれを見て驚き、そして母が彼に言った、「どうしてこんな事をしてくれたのです。ごらんなさい、おとう様もわたしも心配して、あなたを捜していたのです」。
するとイエスは言われた、「どうしてお捜しになったのですか。わたしが自分の父の家にいるはずのことを、ご存じなかったのですか」。
しかし、両親はその語られた言葉を悟ることができなかった。
それからイエスは両親と一緒にナザレに下って行き、彼らにお仕えになった。母はこれらの事をみな心に留めていた。

＜今日の『み言葉』＞
（ルカによる福音 2:41-51）
イエスのみ心の祭日を祝ったばかり私たちは、
今日、聖母のみ心にスポットを当てて、
そのやさしさや暖かさを感じながら、
聖母のみ心の祝日を祝い喜びます。
今日の福音に描かれている１２歳のイエスのエピソードは
自分の胎を痛めた子供に対する気配りと
心配に満ちたお母さんの心を浮き彫りにするものです。
神殿で聖書の専門家と話をしている少年イエスの場面は
ご自分の使命と召命に対する目覚め、
そして聖母マリアのいなくなった子供のうれしい発見という
二つの神秘的な現実を黙想の材料として提起してくれます。
「母はこれらのことをすべて心に納めていた」
という言葉を読んでわかりますように、
その時、聖母マリアは深い宗教体験をされます。
その時の聖母のみ心の姿勢に対して私たちは感慨無量で、
聖歌にありますように、その心は“樫の木”のような強いもので、
私たちを安心のうちに包んでくれる心だと感じるのではないでしょうか。
聖母マリアの母性愛に溢れるみ心に倣って、
サレジオ精神の中心である“牧者の愛”を培っていきたいと思います。
